CRAYOLA® WILD WORLD™ THE ART OF CONSERVATION Ages: 6-12 | Cost: $199 Campers explore the wonder and beauty of the animal kingdom and discover nature in a way that inspires empathy, curiosity and creativity. They learn about many different animals and how wildlife conservationists are working to protect species around the globe. They experiment with a variety of art techniques and use Crayola® art materials to create frog paintings, ink-diffusion jellyfish, polar bear sculptures and more! Materials will be delivered one week prior to start of camp. Possible topics include: Elephant Silhouettes (Saving the Savanna) Use a silhouette painting technique to create elephant and tree shadows on a canvas sunset background. Speckled Frogs (Amphibian Alliance) Use a salt technique to paint speckled, watercolor frogs. Dancing Jellyfish (Ocean Aid) Create colorful, mixed media hanging jellyfishes using a special ink diffusion technique. Lion Sculptures (Protecting the Pride) Create lion sculptures and design savanna habitat dioramas for them to live in. Polar Bear Models (Arctic Awareness) Sculpt polar bears on an ice floe, then use paints and mixing mediums to create the effects of fur and ice. Watercolor Sharks and Fish (Safeguarding the Seascape) Use simple shapes to draw sharks swimming in a coral reef, then add watercolor paint to create a colorful scene under the sea. Slithering Snakes (Rescuing Reptiles) Design three-dimensional, patterned snakes and learn about their unique textured skin. Coiled Turtles (Sheltering Shells) Sculpt a shell, then add extra pieces and colors to make turtle sculptures. GAMECRAFT CAMP Ages: 10-14 | Cost: $165 Learn to code as you create video games using free tools and languages such as Scratch, MakeCode, Alice 3D animator, Python, JavaScript and HTML. Between computer projects, take a break and do some creative engineering with electric art projects using circuits, motors and more. This camp combines livestreamed group learning, individually paced instructional videos and downloadable handouts. Instructions for downloading free required software will be emailed in advance. Specialty materials for art experiments will be delivered to participants one week prior to start of camp. Please make sure to have basic craft tools, such as scissors and tape, on hand. MAD SCIENCE ® CAMP EUREKA Ages: 7-12 | Cost: $199 This camp is designed by you — the Inventor! Each day, you’ll face a series of challenges that must be overcome using basic materials, simple machines, tips from world famous inventors, and the most important tool of all: your mind. Construct catapults and forts, fabricate a winning egg drop design and assemble a working lightsaber. Thomas Edison said that invention is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration … but this camp is 100% fun! Materials needed for the camp will be delivered one week prior to start. Rock, Paper, Scissors Learn about Leonardo da Vinci and his amazing inventions, including catapults, trebuchets and more. Shipwrecked Imagine finding yourself on a deserted island with only a few supplies. What better way to stimulate your creativity? See how resourceful you can be, using Ben Franklin’s inventions as inspiration. Think Fast Use the ideas of early inventors like the Wright brothers to launch into the wild blue yonder. Take flight! Whiz Kidz Team up to explore the inventions of others — including kids, women, Rube Goldberg and Thomas Edison. Draw inspiration from the wacky as well as the practical! Star Adventures As far back as Jules Verne and as recently as George Lucas, dreamers have explored what the future can hold. Many of those dreams are now reality. MAD SCIENCE ® SECRET AGENT LAB Ages: 6-12 | Cost: $199 Sharpen your special operative skills as you learn about the secret world of espionage! See how ultraviolet light is used to gather clues, and create your own crime scene. Learn about forensic science using the pH scale, bones and bugs. Decode messages, use a metal detector, experience night-vision goggles and make your own secret code-breaker! Materials needed for the camp will be delivered one week prior to start. Discover Detection Use your listening, testing and observation skills to investigate fingerprints, handwriting and shoeprints to reveal the identity of our suspects. Listen to an audio crime story to learn clues needed to solve a mystery. Learn to view the story from all angles with a nifty new device. Spy University Use spy gear, such as metal detectors, spy ears and motion sensors, to hone your skills; then write a secret coded message and digestively dispose of it before it can get into the wrong hands! Sleuths on the Scene Discover proper procedure as you use all your senses to study and dissect debris for evidence. Learn the art of the inflatable fingerprint as you discover partial and leftover latent prints. Funky Forensics Forensics is a huge part of the spy business. Use chemistry, collection skills and spy tools to evaluate evidence and solve the crime scene puzzle. Science of Security Unlock your spy skills as you learn how to pick locks, sneak past a whisper-meter and create your own security system. Teams will attempt to crack through each other’s security systems and track a treasure. MAD SCIENCE ® YUCKOLOGY Ages: 7-12 | Cost: $199 Go inside a scientist’s lab and discover the secrets you’ve always wondered about! Use your skills as a chemist to make your own radical reactions. Discover some of the smallest components of our bodies by making slimy cell models. Compare fingerprints and discover the mysteries of DNA as you fine-tune your secret agent skills. Make “brain goo” and check out your bones as you travel the “Organ Trail” and uncover the secrets of your own body. Become a Mad Science detective and use your forensic skills to solve the “Great Ice Cream Caper.” Materials needed for the camp will be delivered one week prior to start. Cell City Learn about cells and the different parts within them. Build your own model cell. The Organ Trail Journey down the Mad Science Organ Trail as we investigate our insides including your brain, bones, muscles, heart, lungs and digestive system. Scene of the Crime Use powers of observation and forensic skills to help solve a sweet mystery. Chemical Counting Learn how chemical elements help to create chemical compounds. Put your new chemistry know-how to work as you make your own brain goo! Radical Reactions Ready, set, reactions! Learn, with hands-on reactions, how matter is neither created nor destroyed. TRI-C ® CULINARY ACADEMY Ages: 9-12 | Cost: $150 Explore the exciting world of culinary arts by learning skills from Tri-C’s expert chefs. Learn the basics of food safety and proper handling of utensils. Have fun practicing culinary techniques like chopping, dicing, reading recipes and measuring ingredients while making delicious and healthy foods. Daily recipes, along with necessary techniques, will be demonstrated during the two-hour virtual class. Students will prepare the recipe and present their creation virtually the following day. DANCE ACADEMY SUMMER IMMERSION Ages: 4-18 | Cost: Free The Dance Academy Program, part of the Tri-C® Creative Arts Academy, offers a free eight-week online immersion series designed for students with previous dance experience. Participants will access virtual class activities through Flipgrid and join instructors for live online classes to receive advanced instruction in various dance techniques including ballet, Horton technique and modern. The camp ends with a week of virtual dance camp activities that culminate in a final virtual performance (details to follow). STRING AND BAND ACADEMY SUMMER IMMERSION Ages: 6-18 | Cost: Free The Orchestra Program and the Honors Wind/Band program, part of the Tri-C® Creative Arts Academy, offer a free eight-week online immersion series. This program is perfect for students to continue and expand their instrumental music education during the summer. Classes include sectionals, lessons, master classes and age-appropriate college/audition prep. Students will join professional and experienced music education faculty in livestreaming sessions and can participate in additional activities through an online platform called Flipgrid. The camp culminates in a week of virtual string and band camp activities, as well as a virtual performance. TRI-C JAZZFEST ACADEMY SUMMER IMMERSION Ages: 12-18 | Cost: Free The Jazz Fest Academy Program, part of the Tri-C® Creative Arts Academy, offers a free seven-week online immersion series designed for students with previous jazz experience. Participants will join live streaming sessions and participate in additional activities through Flipgrid. This performance-based series, led by international jazz artist Dominick Farinacci, incorporates jazz, blues, gospel, R&B and hip-hop. We use jazz as a foundation to help students sharpen their performance, recording and production skills. The camp ends with a week of virtual activities that culminate in a virtual performance to be presented on Tri-C JazzFest platforms. BITS, BOLTS AND THINGAMAJIGS Ages: 12-16 | Cost: $100 Explore Tri-C’s Manufacturing Technology Center, which includes a fully equipped fab lab. Learn about the manufacturing process from start to finish. Use 2D and 3D modeling software to design, laser and 3D-print your own creations. Industry professionals will provide insight into what it’s like to develop and create new products through virtual camp sessions. Keep all products you develop and manufacture. This two-week, grant-funded camp is made possible through the Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs Foundation. Pick up project materials from the Manufacturing Technology Center before camp starts. CREATION STATION Ages: 11-15 | Cost: $175 Interested in learning what you can do in a fab lab? In this two-week camp, you’ll explore Tri-C’s Ideation Station — a fully equipped fab lab with 3D printers, laser engravers, CNC router and much more. Create and design your own projects, using 2D and 3D modeling software to design, laser and print your creations. Projects include T-shirt design, 3D printing and woodworking. Project materials will be available for pickup at the Manufacturing Technology Center, and all 3D printed projects will be available for pickup after camp is over. PROJECT PIPELINE ARCHITECTURE CAMP Ages: 11-15 | Cost: $50 Established in 2006 by the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA), Project Pipeline is open to anyone interested in becoming an architect or learning how to design a building. Learn about hip-hop architecture, ecoarchitecture/sustainability and modern architecture, as well as how to sketch and use 2D/3D software. After brainstorming, presenting and refining your design ideas, you’ll build your design. Project kits will be available for pickup at the Manufacturing Technology Center before camp begins (details will be sent via email). This one-week virtual camp includes sessions with professional architects and contractors. Learn by building a digital alarm clock with a hands-on kit delivered directly to you. Develop an understanding of the functions of basic mechanical and electronic principles. Learn about different functions of the clock: time set, alarm set, countdown timer, stopwatch, counter, hourly chime, precise time display and 24-hour format.
