ALL SAINTS MARSH C OF E ACADEMY JUNE / JULY 2019 Head of Academy Update Dear Parents and Carers, As we approach the end of term I have been reflecting on what a wonderful couple of terms I have had since I started at All Saints Marsh in January. I am delighted that I will be continuing as Head of Academy and excited about what we can achieve in the next academic year together. We were moderated in all Key Stages this term by the local authority, which involved moderators deployed by Devon County Council coming into school to moderate in Reception, Year 2 and Year 6. This was achieved by talking to the teachers about the children’s work and the assessments the teachers had made. In all moderation visits, the moderators commented on how well the teachers knew the children and their good understanding of the curriculum. The moderators were very impressed with the children’s books and the effective feedback that clearly moved the children's learning forward. They all commented on the wonderful 'feel of the school’, the learning environments and ultimately the l earning opportunities for all children that were discussed. I am very proud of the All Saints Marsh team for the tremendous teaching and learning that has enabled children to make the progress and attainment that they have achieved and thank them for creating a culture where every child will succeed. We love having such expert secondary P.E. specialists coming into support us. This term we have Miss Warden from Spires College teaching every class; Mr Patchett from Newton Abbot College teaching PE once a week, Miss Dawe from Coombeshead College teaching dance to Year 5, Mr Partridge teaching Cricket skills and Year 6 taking swimming lessons! Phew! What an active school we are, no wonder we achieved gold for school games - a brilliant achievement and shows our commitment to a high-quality physical education curriculum. We recognise that physical education inspires all to succeed and flourish in a way that supports both their physical and mental health and well being. The recent Sports day and Summer Fair was an opportunity to come together as a school family and what a fantastic time we had! It was brilliant to have so many of you come to Sports Day to cheer the children along and support them as they showed a fabulous effort in all the races. Thank you to Mrs Gray for the fantastic organisation that made it all run like clockwork and to Miss Warden, our P.E. teacher from Spires College, for leading on the races. It was also great to have such participation from young and old alike in the toddler and adult races! As we celebrate our Year 6 children’s time at All Saints Marsh we will be looking forward to our leavers service and wishing them every success as they make the transition into Secondary School. We are incredibly proud of all their achievements, we hope they enjoy their end of term treat and can’t wait to see their talents in the end of year musical! We are also excited about our whole school trip where we will be spending time with our Dunsford Community Academy friends and have the opportunity to use some of their wonderful outdoor facilities—more details to follow shortly! I look forward to seeing you all at parent consultations and would like to thank you for your continued support. Have a wonderful summer holiday and I will see you all in September ready for another successful and fun packed year! Mrs Edwards Head of Academy
Page 2 ALL SAINTS MARSH C OF E ACADEMY JUNE / JULY PE and Sport The second half of the Summer term has got off to a good start with our Cricket Coach, Mr Partridge inspiring the children with his great cricket lessons and club and have really appreciated his teaching and skills. Mr Partridge is keen to recruit KS1 children for his All Stars Cricket club which is held at the Rec, in Newton Abbot. Please contact the office if you would like further details. Unfortunately, due to poor weather, the Cross Country race at Stover was cancelled, we hope to get a new date soon. Looking forward to the Autumn term, there will be, as always, many events and fixtures for the children to participate in....more details to follow at the beginning of term. We have been awarded GOLD in the School Games Mark! A BIG thank you to all the staff, adults and children who have worked so hard. This is a HUGE achievement and represents participation both inside and outside of school. Sports Day Our Super Summer Sports' Day began at 10.30am with our amazing children participating in a Round Robin of activities including Archery, Long Jump, Speed Bouncing, Javelin, Egg and Spoon, Bean Bag Target relay and Ball relay. We got off to a prompt start and each and every child took part in all of the races, with our older children supporting the younger children in their teams. By 11.45am we had finished and the points that the children had earned were counted and carried forward to the afternoon's scores. After lunch, we set off to the Park again and the afternoon races began. Both Key Stages ran their Flat, Sack and Hurdle races and the afternoon finished with a relay run by all of the Key Stage 2 children. The children loved cheering each other on, they thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and having their families watch them being fabulous!! To finish our fantastic day, the Toddlers' race was run, followed by the Mums’ and finally, the amazing stampede that we call the Dads’ race!! Thank you to all of the families for coming and making the children's day so memorable. Thank you to Premier Education and SPIRES for helping to facilitate the event. The Red team won the cup but, really, all of our children were winners yesterday. Having practised in their PE lessons and tackling all of the activities with enthusiasm, they really shone!
Page 3 ALL SAINTS MARSH C OF E ACADEMY JUNE / JULY Templar Class Templar class have had an eventful month that is to be treasured and remembered for years to come. Many of the children received the opportunity to visit London for a week. Highlights included a trip to the House of Parliament, the London Eye, Downing Street and a trip to the theatre to watch The Lion King. They even experienced a daily ride on the London underground! One of the best outcomes of the trip was that they all made new friends that they will be seeing soon on our next visit to Dunsford. Tickets for the Year 6 Performance of ‘The X Factory’ on Tuesday 16th July are available now - please check your emails or speak to Mrs Webber. Performances are at 9.30am or 2pm. Courtenay Class Courtenay class have been learning about sound! They investigated different ways in which sounds are made, and then learnt about how they are created by something vibrating. We then did an experiment with cous-cous on a drum. When we hit the drum, the cous-cous jumped up and down on the drum surface, showing the vibrations. The children finished off by making their own TV programme about what they had learnt!
Page 4 ALL SAINTS MARSH C OF E ACADEMY JUNE / JULY Bradley Class Bradley class had the wonderful chance to become artists! They explored three different artists, three different techniques and three different mediums. There was the chance to work with children from across the whole school to make new friends and share talents. The final pieces were incredible and all very unique to the artist! “We painted like Kadinsky and it was really fun because we found out how to mix colours and how to add layers to our art “I wanted to make mine work.” - Darcie really bright and colour- ful so I didn’t mix my colours in the begin- ning. Then I used black paint to add the lines and shapes.” - Nadia “Pointillism was so much fun because you had to be really careful to colour in using dots. It took a very long time!” Kristabell Forde Class We have been so busy this term! We have been showing our school values and really trying hard with our learning. We have really enjoyed playing Cricket with Mr Partridge as well as practising for our Sports Day. We have also been learning lots about numbers and we even made our own number blocks. Within Maths we investigated which animals were the heaviest, linking to our topic! Here are a few photos from our learning this term.

We offer a variety of snacks ranging from wraps, sandwiches with a choice of fillings, salad, fresh fruit and yoghurts. Children can partake in lots of fun activities including arts and crafts, good old fashioned board games, computer games and seasonal activities. They also have access to the outside area to play. Page 6 ALL SAINTS MARSH C OF E ACADEMY JUNE / JULY LONDON RESIDENTIAL What an incredible residential we had in London! It was action packed from beginning to end! Travelling by train and then across London on the underground every day meant we got a real taste of the hustle and bustle of London life. We also had the double bonus of a camping holiday, camping in a school who generously welcomed us and we ate there daily with some delicious meals. We visited Number 10 Downing Street, the National History and Science museums, the National Portrait Gallery, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Horse Guards Parade, London Eye, and even visited the West End to watch a show. The children’s behaviour was amazing, we had happy resilient children all week who took every new and wonderful experiences in their stride and we were incredibly proud of them.
Page 7 ALL SAINTS MARSH C OF E ACADEMY JUNE / JULY 2019 LONDON RESIDENTIAL A fantastic cruise down the Thames enabled us to learn about the history behind some of the famous bridges and other famous London landmarks including The Houses of Parliament that we had already visited; watching a live debate and meeting our MP Anne-Marie Morris. We were able to get another view of London from the incredible London Eye and were becoming experts on the London sights and history! Our final visit was to a Sikh temple. Manjit and her team gave us an extremely warm welcome, explaining the central beliefs of the Sikh religion to us all and sharing how Sikh people choose to live. We were then treated to a delicious lunch! All of these experiences we shared with children and staff from Dunsford Community Academy and the other highlight of the week was making new friendships which in a small school is sometimes hard to do. Our thanks and gratitude goes out to Dunsford’s Head of Academy Mrs Alphey who organised this wonderful residential and who made sure everything ran smoothly - she truly has some exceptional organisational skills!
Page 8 ALL SAINTS MARSH C OF E ACADEMY JUNE / JULY 2019 Adham has recently participated in the Hurdlestone Challenge along with over 400 Scouts and Guides from throughout Devon. His team completed all 15 activity bases along the 8 mile route which the teams had to navigate using a map and were the winning team at base 15, scoring the most points out of 85 teams. A huge achievement and one which he, his team and Scout group and of course us are very proud of! Congratulations Sam on receiving your level 6 in gymnastics . THANK YOU….. A Big THANK YOU to Mr Hodder for organising our Year 5 and 6 Bikeability Course. The children had a great time and learnt many valuable lessons to ensure they are safe and confident on the road.
Page 8 ALL SAINTS MARSH C OF E ACADEMY JUNE / JULY PTFA SUMMER FAIR It was brilliant to see so many of you enjoying the yummy refreshments on offer and the children having fun in the sun at the summer fair! We were entertained by sumo fights, thrills and spills on the bouncy castle, games, stalls, lots of delicious cakes, a bbq, mocktails and even an opportunity to cool down with a spell in the stocks! Thank you for your support, the children gain so much from the fund raising that the PTFA do with treats and trips paid for by them. A huge thank you to the PTFA for their amazing hard work in organising, setting up, running the stalls and packing away at the end - they are a small group at the moment so it was a lot of work but I know they enjoyed every second and were really pleased how successful it was and how much fun the children had. If you are able to support in the future do let us know!
