DQ FUNDS HELP PURCHASE SPECIAL SENSORY MACHINE DQ franchisees and fans provided a generous gift that allowed Hurley Children’s Hospital in Flint, Michigan, to purchase DVD players and movies for children’s rooms. This funding also helped buy a Vecta® multi-sensory machine that lets kids— including those with autism—calm and comfort themselves. The Vecta provides music, a bubble tower, lights and many other features sick or injured kids can use to distract themselves during stressful moments. This specialized tool is especially valuable when administering care to children with special needs. CAPTURING MAGIC MOMENTS MAKING KIDS HAPPY IN INVENTIVE WAYS CMN Hospitals find many unique ways to engage kids and take their minds off their treatments for a time, using funds like those supplied by DQ. For instance, at Boston Children’s Hospital, a lunch spot known as the Chef’s Playground offers afternoon cooking academies where patients and families can take a break together to learn and practice new food techniques and recipes. And at Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, a special playroom known as “The Beach” features relaxing sun-and-sea imagery, toys and a real sandbox to let kids “play outside,” even when they’re hospitalized. LOCAL GIVING BENEFITS LOCAL KIDS Since every dollar raised by stores in the DQ system and their fans stays close to home, franchisees in Wisconsin were able to help upgrade the MACC Fund Cancer Center at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Money raised allowed the hospital to purchase more than $150,000 in technology equipment and upgrades. This purchase allows families to watch videos or play games together as they take a break from medical treatments. DQ and CMN Hospitals | 5
