2020 Hillsborough County Fair Market Steer Show and Sale 1. Entry form and $100 Entry fee are DUE to the Hillsborough County Fair Office on MARCH 8, 2020. Applications MUST BE POSTMARKED BY MARCH 8, 2020 to be eligible. Exhibitor must own their steer & steer must be housed by March 8, 2020. 2. INITIAL WEIGH-IN Information Saturday April 11, 2020 at the Hillsborough County Fairgrounds Steers must weigh at least 550 lbs and no more than 999 lbs. Flap tags will be administered to all steers. Permanent ID (as defined by Florida Department of Agriculture) will not be provided or put in by the committee; this will be the responsibility of the producer/and or the exhibitor. Vaccinations and dewormer will be available at exhibitor’s discretion, however nothing is required. Implants will not be offered at weigh-in There will be a MANDATORY exhibitor clinic at the conclusion of weigh-in. o Parents can take calves back home if so desired. 3. FINAL WEIGH-IN Weigh in for Market Steers will be Wednesday, October 21, 2020 Steers will be weighed one time only. Steers cannot be over 24 months old at final weigh-in. Cattle will be mouth checked to verify age. If cattle are found to be over 24 months of age, they will be disqualified. To be entered into the show and sale, steers must weigh at least 910 pounds. Record Books are to be completed and submitted at Weigh-In Health Papers WILL be required. Steers will be required to walk and be controlled from the trailer to the scales. This setting is the same as what will be required of the steers throughout their stay on the fairgrounds. PLEASE NOTE the fairgrounds are an open setting and steers will be required to walk to and from the bedding area to the wash rack and grooming areas. Help is available to you at all times. 4. There will be additional prizes and acknowledgement for County Bred steers. A Breeder’s Certificate is due at time of initial entry. This form must be filled out and signed by the breeder. The committee will verify this information to be factual. Final Decision to accept the certificate is up to the committee and their decision is final. 5. Steers will be classed by the show committee according to weight. 6. Fitting of cattle is ALLOWED and ENCOURAGED, especially by (but not limited to) the exhibitor. Fitting of cattle will only be allowed for the show. Products must be washed out after the show and steers must be free and clear prior to the sale. Sale will be ‘Blow and Go” only.
7. Contests/Other Opportunities that will be offered during the 2020 HCF Market Steer Show and Sale – Fitting & Grooming Contest, Showmanship (All exhibitors), Record Book, Herdsmen and Scholarships for Seniors. (More Information to come on all of these) GENERAL RULES/GUIDELINES 1. Exhibitor must be an active member of a Hillsborough County 4-H club, a Hillsborough County FFA chapter OR the Hillsborough County Junior Cattlemen. Member must be in good standings. 2. Exhibitor must be at least eight (8) years old by March 8, 2020. 3. The Hillsborough County Fair Market Steer Show Committee recognizes that it is a privilege to participate in any livestock show and sale, and that bullying activities and illegal substance use are detrimental to the education provided by participation in Hillsborough County Fair. By entering a steer at the Hillsborough County Fair, the exhibitor acknowledges that if they are found to participate in bullying activities or illegal substance use, their entry will be disqualified at any time at the discretion of the Hillsborough County Fair Market Steer Show Committee. 4. All entry forms must be signed by the exhibitor’s FFA Advisor, 4H Leader or the Hillsborough Junior Cattlemen’s Leader. 5. Steer entry forms must be turned in to the Hillsborough County Fair Office or POSTMARKED by MARCH 8, 2020. NO EXCEPTIONS. 6. No Steers will be permitted with horns. 7. Exhibitor must show his/her own animal, except on permission of the committee, and stand-in is not eligible for showmanship. Showmanship contest exhibitors must use his/her own entry. 8. Exhibitor must manage his/her animal to the satisfaction of the show committee. All rejected animals must be removed immediately from the grounds and will not be allowed to show or sell. Animals can be rejected at any time from the show by the show committee. 9. All animals must have a suitable halter and neck rope while in the bedding area. 10. Use of tranquilizers/sedatives, filling of cattle with liquids, adding hair to steers or other forms of tampering is strictly prohibited. Non-compliance will be grounds for immediate dismissal from the fair grounds. 11. All medications and/or injections (subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenously, nasally or by mouth) given to steers while on the fairgrounds, MUST be administered or under the supervision of a veterinarian. This is grounds for immediate dismissal. 11. Exhibitor must keep his/her animals, stall space, and the barn in general, clean and neat as possible and must provide feed and water to his/her steer. 12. Exhibitors must dress appropriately (school dress code applies) any time on the fairgrounds and must wear official dress of the organization (4-H, FFA or HJCA) during designated times. Exhibitors must wear closed toed shoes at all times in the barn or when you are around your animal. 13. Exhibitor will be responsible for the care of his/her animal until it is removed from the barn.
14. There will be three divisions throughout the steer show. i) Junior: 8 - 11 Years Old ii) Intermediate: 12 - 14 Years Old iii) Senior: 15 - 18 Years Old 15. All exhibitors shall turn in a completed record book on Final Check-In day at the Fair. A downloadable record book will be provided on the Hillsborough County Fair Website, under the Market Steer Tab. Please use the forms provided when you download the record book and upon completion print the final copy, to hand in at the Final Check-In at the Fair. Signatures from parents and FFA/4H/HCJC advisors are mandatory for record book submission and for your steer to be entered into the show and sale. 16. Special barn rules may be posted. 17. Inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated. The Hillsborough County Fair Market Steer Show Committee has the authority to ban anyone for conduct deemed to be inappropriate. 18. Show management is in no way responsible for exhibits or any accidents that may occur. 19. Final interpretation and administration of all rules is vested in the Hillsborough County Fair Market Steer Show Committee and its decision is final. SALE RULES 1. All Market Steers shall be sold at live auction and harvested at a designated location. NO EXCEPTIONS 2. Animals which do not show, do not sell during the sale. 3. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to make contact and secure a buyer for his/her animal. Community/Buyer Outreach requirements will be required and outlined after entry forms are in. 4. The Steer Committee will also provide buyer’s materials to help with outreach. 5. All exhibitors are required to write a Thank You card to their buyer. These cards are to be turned in at the conclusion of the sale, before the exhibitor may leave the fairgrounds. General Livestock Rules of the Hillsborough County Fair EXHIBITOR ELIGIBILITY To be eligible to show in the 2020 Hillsborough County Fair, youth must be in grades K-12 and either enrolled in Hillsborough County Public or Private Schools, homeschooled in Hillsborough County, or a member of Hillsborough County 4-H or FFA. Though we encourage all youth to be involved in the 4-H or FFA programs, it is not required if all other eligibility requirements are met. The Dairy show will allow post-graduate students with requirements, please see specie rules. ENTRY TO FAIR All exhibitors will receive an armband that will be worn the weekend of the fair that the youth is participating. Each weekend (Thursday- Sunday) will be a different colored armband. Admission passes for parents/guardians will be handed out upon check-in. If exhibitors are showing multiple species in the same weekend, armbands and parent/guardian passes will be handed out with the species with the earliest check-in. Each exhibitor will receive 1 armband and 2 parent/guardian passes per day. If multiple exhibitors are from the same family, they will only receive 1 set of parent/guardian passes. ADDITIONAL GATE ADMISSION PASSES Each exhibitor will receive 1 armband and 2 parent/guardian passes per day for the days the exhibitor will be at their show. If more passes are needed for siblings, grandparents, or leaders/advisors, the fair offers discounted admission tickets. An order form is part of the premium book. Discounted gate admission tickets can be purchased prior to Wednesday, October 14, 2020 by mail, email, or online. See order form for instructions. As a reminder, parking is free and children under 5 are free. Email hillsboroughcountyfair@verizon.com for advance ticket requests. Discounted advance tickets for the Livestock Shows are $4 for adults. LIVESTOCK ENTRANCE The livestock entrance will be open for use and all livestock exhibitors will need to enter and exit using this gate, except for the first day of check-in. The initial check-in date exhibitors will need to enter the main gate and follow signs for their respective species to the check- in point. TRAFFIC PATTERN FOR ENTRY All trailers need to follow the signs for routes showing where to go for each species AND designated parking. Trailers CANNOT park near or block the water tanks at the main entrance. Any trailers left on the fairgrounds during shows MUST PARK IN DESIGNATED TRAILER PARKING AREAS!!! The back gate will be open for departure ONLY when species release. LIVESTOCK CAKE AUCTION Each Saturday of the livestock shows, there will be a cake auction. This auction raises money that goes directly back into the livestock program as well as to the exhibitors. Each specie is responsible for 1 cake/pie to be auctioned off. If you are interested in providing the HOMEMADE cake/pie, please contact your specific species chair/co-chairperson. Cakes/pies presented for the Livestock Cake Auction need to be in a container that will go with the buyer. The container must be sealed yet allow the cake/pie to be seen. RELEASE TIMES Please be aware that species will be released only at allowed release times stated in the premium rules unless approval has been given by the livestock director or co-chairs. ENTRY DEADLINE All species (EXCEPT swine, market steer, market lamb, and market turkey) entry fees and entry forms will be due or postmarked by October 1, 2020. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE! Entries will be accepted via mail and online. No faxes allowed. All entries must include payment. ALL PAYMENTS MUST BE RECEIVED BY OCTOBER 1, 2020 OR THE ENTRY WILL BE DENIED. Fair office hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 9 AM-1 PM. Hand delivery entries are only accepted during these hours. No additions to entries will be allowed after the deadline! Substitutions are only allowed if approved by the respective species committee. MARKET ANIMAL ENTRIES Entries for market animals are due according to each species rules. Payment MUST accompany market entries/applications, the ONLY exception being Swine. Those exhibitors drawn for the Swine Show/Sale, must pay their entry fee the night of the drawing. Any entries/applications turned in without payment will NOT be accepted! ONLINE ENTRIES Online entries will be available for all species unless stated otherwise in species rules. Entry fees can be paid when doing online entries, through PayPal, or by sending in a check. Checks should be made out to the Hillsborough County Fair and note the exhibitors name and respective show/event. When using PayPal, note the exhibitors name and respective show/event. Visit the website for more details. LIVESTOCK SHOW RULES 1. Rejected or sick animals must be removed from the grounds IMMEDIATELY!! 2. Thank you cards are REQUIRED for each species. Please see specific specie rules for the number of thank you cards required. 3. Final interpretations of all general and specie rules made by the Hillsborough County Fair livestock committees and all pertinent people, are the rights of those officials and ALL DECISIONS ARE FINAL. 4. Appropriate dress is expected at all times while in the barns and participating in the livestock shows, including CLOSED TOED SHOES at all times. See your species rules for show attire. 5. Owner or custodian of property of any kind brought to the fairgrounds, either for exhibit or other purposes, assumes all risk and/or responsibility for loss, damage, or theft. 6. No claims for injury to any person or damages to or loss of any property (including all livestock animals) on account of fire, theft, the elements (mother nature), accidents, or other conditions or causes, whether to exhibits, property of exhibitor, vehicles on the grounds, and articles left therein or any other property of any nature whatsoever, will be tolerated or accepted. 7. All exhibitors are to represent the Hillsborough County Fair, 4-H, FFA, and Hillsborough County in a positive manner. All exhibits are for entertainment and education for the general public and for exhibitors of the other species. Interaction with the public and other exhibitors must be conducted in a manner that promotes good will. Unbecoming conduct may result in disqualification, probation status with the fair, exclusion from future fairs, or immediate dismissal. 8. Specie committees or other fair volunteers are in NO WAY responsible for exhibits or any accidents that occur. 9. Inappropriate behavior or activities will not be tolerated for any reason by exhibitors or parents/guardians while on the fairgrounds (Includes bullying and substances). Offenders will be asked to leave immediately by committees if deemed appropriate. Conflicts and issues that cannot be resolved directly with the Exhibitor’s specie committee chairs, should contact Suzanne Churchwell, Jody Holcomb, or Serena Stratton for assistance. Issues may be escalated to the Hillsborough County Fair Board of Directors if an acceptable resolution cannot be reached with the Livestock Committee. Exhibitors and parents agree to refrain from publishing comments on social media that would negatively reflect on the Fair Livestock events or the integrity of the Hillsborough County Fair. 10. All exhibitors are responsible for their animals and must keep all exhibit areas and animals clean, and all exhibits fed and watered appropriately (unless otherwise stated by the specie committee). 11. Any exhibitor who violates ANY of the General Livestock Rules or specific specie rules, will forfeit all privileges and premiums won. Failure to cooperate with fair officials can also result in premium forfeiture and immediate dismissal. Additionally, exhibitors and parents/guardians may be placed on probation with the Fair if deemed necessary. 12. Only animals being exhibited are allowed on the grounds. No dogs allowed in the barns.
13. No smoking/vaping in the barns. 14. Anyone who has dropped out of school, is currently suspended or expelled, or not participating in their club/chapter or agriculture classes, will not be permitted to show. 15. All exhibits are educational and are youth shows. It is expected from the Hillsborough County Fair and all committees that the exhibitor entering animals is the caretaker of their project with parental/guardian oversight and guidance as age appropriate/needed. 16. Exhibitors of species are required to assist in either set-up, tear down, or fair clean up day, depending on your species weekend. 17. All exhibitors and parents/guardians, please remember, this is a youth county fair, not a national show. Your species committees are volunteers that take time out of their lives to put together the shows for the youth. PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL!! The Hillsborough County Livestock Committee welcomes constructive feedback in efforts to improve our livestock events. 18. For ALL Market Animals, checks will not be issued until THE BUYER HAS PAID. NO EXCEPTIONS! If all funds are not received by December 30, 2020, a check will be issued for what money has been received at that time, not before. Any remaining funds will be issued once received. 19. ALL Market Animal Sales will have a 2% deduction from total monies owed to exhibitors across all income, including add-ons, to help defray expenses within the Livestock Program as well as to help with items that need to be purchased to help improve the exhibit areas and shows (fans, panels, PA system, etc.).
