2019 GREAT LAKES REGIONAL COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY CONFERENCE University of Louisville Student Activity Center (SAC) April 12th & 13 th , 2019
Welcome from the Conference Host On behalf of the Department of Counseling and Human Development, we want to welcome you to the 32nd Annual Great Lakes Regional Counseling Psychology Conference in the vibrant city of Louisville, Kentucky! We are grateful and proud to host, for the first time, this long-standing and important contribution to training, research, and clinical practice in the field of Counseling Psychology. We have many meaningful events and topics that will be covered over the course of two days. The theme of the conference is Promoting Health Equity: The Intersection of Social Justice and Psychology. This theme highlights the unique perspective that Counseling Psychology can bring to the ever-evolving field of health equity. We are enthusiastic about the stream of events and activities that await us during the conference! Pre-conference activities include a workshop on incorporating hip hop culture into the counseling process and a continuing education (CE) event on ethics. The conference will feature a panel discussion with community leaders about health equity and a keynote address by American Psychological Association Division 17 President Dr. Ruth Fassinger. The content of the posters, symposia, and roundtables will facilitate comprehensive and innovative dialogue regarding issues related to our theme and the field of Counseling Psychology. In addition, we are excited to announce that the department will host the #IamPsychedTour during the conference. This multimedia pop-up exhibit honors the contributions of women of color to the field of psychology. This exhibit was developed by the American Psychological Association Women’s Programs Office in collaboration with the Drs. Nicholas and Dorothy Cummings Center for the History of Psychology and Psychology’s Feminist Voices Oral History and Digital Archive Project. We hope folks can visit this powerful exhibit during the conference! We want to acknowledge and express gratitude to the students, staff, and faculty from the University of Louisville and other institutions who were dedicated to the success of this conference.
