2019 Wisconsin Collegiate DECA Student of the Year
As the Professional Development Council of Wisconsin Collegiate DECA, it is our duty and privilege to provide guidance and support to the Members and Advisors of Wisconsin Collegiate DECA, and to assist with the development of tomorrow's leaders. Wisconsin Collegiate DECA has played a key role in the development of our careers and in who we are as individuals and professionals. We understand its relevance and realize its importance in our daily lives. Guiding students throughout their involvement, and offering support and encouragement is extremely rewarding for our members. The opportunity to show our appreciation for the hard work you put in and our respect for your achievements is truly a privilege. A Wisconsin Collegiate DECA member’s role is multi-faceted, from the demands of school, to work obligations, and family responsibilities. While often being pulled in several directions, students must learn to balance their activities. The Student of the Year Award recognizes those members who not only manage this feat, but do so with a passion and drive beyond that of an average student. The ideal nominee is a student who finds the determination and means to excel in all aspects of the member role. The Student of the Year Award is an additional acknowledgement that their sacrifices and efforts have not been overlooked and are, on the contrary, respected and admired. Along with professional recognition, the Student of the Year will receive a prize, to be announced at the State Conference. Each section of the Student of the Year competition was designed to both allow candidates to show off their successes and to give them valuable experience to take with them upon graduation. • The resume is the vehicle through which candidates will share their professional story • The creative presentation gives candidates the opportunity to share their knowledge of Collegiate DECA as well as aspects of their individual journey/gives students’ invaluable presentation experience in a non-threatening, constructive environment. Eligible students must maintain at a minimum, a cumulative grade point average of 2.75, possess leadership qualities, and be highly involved in their chapter’s activities. Professional responsibility should be present in their activities at the conferences and candidates must demonstrate that they are community oriented. The use of thoughtful creativity is critical in the presentation. Candidates must structure their presentation materials around the current Collegiate DECA tagline, Limitless. Candidates should also review the enclosed scoring sheets to guarantee an understanding of scoring methods and to ensure that all points are covered. This packet contains all the eligibility information and requirements for the Student of the Year competition. Advisors are encouraged to select two students as nominees and to guide them in their pursuit of the Student of the Year Award. Understand that the rules of this event are in place to ensure that all participants have a fair and enjoyable experience. For this reason, it is of the utmost importance that all guidelines are followed and all deadlines are met. As detailed in the following materials, departure from the prescribed guidelines can result in a loss of points and/or disqualification from the event. The PDC looks forward to meeting your nominees!
