COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION A Dessert Kind of Night Jazzmin Cabrera TBD-Monthly • 6:00pm The Gardens Who doesn't enjoy a late night snack, especially when it's something sweet and easy to make? Join Jazzmin as she creates scrumptious desserts that take no time at all. With no fuss and no mess, feel free to enjoy these sweet treats with new friends, chat with old friends, and forget about the stress of the day with each delicious mouthful you take. 1st and 3rd Monday • Adrian's Kitchen Adrian Williams The Gardens 2:00pm Adrian brings his love of family-style cooking to The Gardens. Participants will assist Adrian each class in cooking or baking a delicious homemade dish. Adrian is excited to share some of his favorite recipes, but is always open to new ideas! See you in the kitchen! Art with Alex Alex Leffingwell TBD-Monthly • 2:00pm The Gardens Alex will be hosting an exciting new art class that will feature drawing and painting lessons. Alex is ready to inspire you and spark your imagination with all forms of art, from charcoal drawing to landscape painting. There will be something for everyone to try, and with Alex as the instructor, participants will be smiling and laughing through each class! 1st and 3rd Friday • 10:30am Connections Lounge and Artistic Expressions Merissa Sass 2nd and 4th Tuesday • The Gardens 10:30am Are you crafty? Creative? Are you new to all things art? It doesn’t matter if you are an expert or a beginner, as this class will introduce you to various types of artistic expression. This program will provide an opportunity to try a wide array of art forms, including oil painting, clay, stenciling, Adult Coloring Books, Dot-To-Dot, iN2L Paint Program, and additional techniques as the class progresses. Come get artsy with us! Books Are Our Friends Michael Hickey TBD-Monthly • 10:30am Lobby Did you know there are several new and used bookstores in the area? There are also library sales with hundreds of books that are being taken out of circulation and being sold for less than a dollar! We will visit the best places for the best deals and newest publications. Expand your horizons and make new "friends"!!!
COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Bible Study Discussion Paul Umbaugh III TBD-Monthly • 6:00pm Art Room The Bible is one of the most widely discussed books ever printed. Interpretations vary between different faiths but one thing that is certain is more discussions need to be had. Regardless of your faith denomination, Paul invites everyone to attend this class where he hopes to provide an open discussion where people can express their beliefs and feelings. Everyone will have something to contribute during this opportunity for fellowship as Paul leads the group on a journey to help you grow in your spiritual life. 1st and 3rd Wednesday • Bible Study Adrian Williams The Gardens 11:00am A person’s religious faith is something uniquely personal to each individual, including our residents. As memory and cognition decline, faith can spark familiarity, memories, and can open one’s heart. Join Adrian, one of our Nayas, as he hosts a Bible study for our residents. He will guide the group through verses, psalms, and books of the Bible that are sure to help everyone on their spiritual journey. Blueberry Bliss Shelbey Lane July-TBD • 2:00pm Gallery July is known as National Blueberry Month, and luckily Florida is home to many blueberry farms! Blueberries are low in calories, high in nutrients, and are considered an antioxidant superfood. Blueberries can also protect against aging! Join Shelbey as she discusses the many health benefits of blueberries while enjoying some refreshing blueberry treats that are sure to cool you down and keep your body happy! Cerveza! Aileen Carlson May 11th • 2:00pm Gallery Beer in Mexico has a long history and is a major export for the country. More than just Corona, the Mexican beer industry is one of the most prevalent in the world! Join Aileen as we celebrate Cinco de Mayo and sample several beers from Mexico during our "Cerveza" beer tasting! Cheese Lovers Shelbey Lane June 4th • 2:00pm Gallery June 4th is known as National Cheese Day. There are currently 400 different types of cheeses in the world. In fact, the United States produces more cheese than any other country-a whopping 26% of production is done right here in the USA! In this class, we will discuss all different types of cheeses and where they originated, the techniques used to give cheeses their final texture, and the many health benefits one can receive when incorporating cheese into their diet. We will also sample a variety of cheeses from around the world including cheddar, swiss, mozzarella, and brie.
COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Cinco de Mayo Shannon Morelli May 4th • 2:00pm The Gardens Explorations Did you know that Cinco de Mayo is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army's unlikely victory on May 5, 1862? Did you know that May 5th is a historic day for the country? It is a day of great celebration wrapped in a little piece of history. On May 4th, learn about the true meaning of this holiday, take a tour of Mexico with our iN2L program, and enjoy some traditional Mexican treats as we celebrate this important day! Cinco de Mayo Fiesta Merissa Sass May 5th • 2:00pm Gallery Come join Merissa as she explores the history of one of Mexico's biggest holidays, Cinco de Mayo. Not to be confused with Mexican Independence Day, which occurs on September 16, Cinco de Mayo is an annual celebration full of parades, food, music, and dancing. The date is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army's unlikely victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza. Meet Merissa to join in and get a taste of what this exciting holiday is all about. She will also be serving a couple of classic Mexican dishes for everyone to sample! College Football Shelbey Lane August-TBD • 3:00pm Cypress Theater Countdown College football season is quickly approaching, and that means another season of tailgates, first downs, and Hail Mary’s! Even if you never went to college, watching college football can be enjoyable for everyone. Grab your favorite collegiate gear and join Shelbey as she explains some of the basic rules of college football and relive some of the greatest moments in college football history. Colorful Cocktails Shelbey Lane 3rd Monday • 6:00pm Gallery Coco Chanel is famous for saying, “The best color in the world, is the one that looks best on you.” Colors have an amazing impact in our lives and can actually effect our moods! Cocktails are often chosen in restaurants from pictures that display bright and cheerful colors or very unique colors that you just have to try! Summer brings new colors to enrich our taste buds and Shelbey plans to share these wonderful colors in the form of cold cocktails! Here is to another class of colorful cocktails! Cheers!
COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Cooking Corner Josh Marlowe Last Thursday • 2:00pm Gallery Our Dining Director and Executive Chef, Josh, will be hosting a monthly themed cooking demonstration complete with delicious tastings! This summer Josh wants to dive into some classic dishes that will leave you wanting more. You can take your taste buds on a journey as you experience flavors and cuisines of all kinds. During the month of May, Josh is going to cook Frog Legs Provencal. This French dish consists of sautéing frog legs with tomatoes, herbs, wine, and butter. In June, he is going to take everyone to London to enjoy the Scotch Egg. London is said to have created this appetizer consisting of a boiled egg wrapped with ground sausage and then fried. To ease the summer sun in July, Josh will go light and cook up some Fish Tacos served with a mango and avocado salsa. In August, rounding out the summer and preparing for cookouts, Josh will be serving Braised Short Ribs with a red wine reduction. Be sure to check out Josh's delicious and entertaining class each month because you never know what surprises await you! Dog Lovers Shelbey Lane August 26th • 3:00pm Cypress Theater August 26th is known as National Dog Day. There are currently 340 recognized dog breeds in the world and each breed has its own special purpose. Dogs can help humans in a variety of ways: they can help us hunt, give us companionship, and even make us healthier! It is no surprise that dogs are considered “man’s best friend”. Come join Shelbey as we learn all about some of the most popular dog breeds and even some you may not have heard of. This class is perfect for any and all animal lovers! Everything Red, White, Merissa Sass July 4th • 2:00pm Gallery and Blue Happy Birthday America! Let's rediscover the traditions of the United States that our forefathers created. After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence. This declaration was prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the wording of the Declaration, finally approving it two days later on July 4. We will take time to praise our nation's heritage, laws, history, society, and people. There will be a few mini appetizers to enjoy while we listen to famous patriotic songs to round out the class. Tuesday and Thursday • Fitness with Fusion Carly Pelland Cypress Theater 10:00am Carly is a Rehabilitation Technician with Fusion Healthcare. She will be hosting a class every Tuesday and Thursday where she will lead residents in a fitness program specifically designed for seniors. Carly will also educate residents on the benefits of proper stretching and strengthening exercises. Carly is able to customize the class to include all levels of physical ability. This fitness class promotes daily activity which can lead to a happy and healthy lifestyle for many years to come!
COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Ginger Crinkles Wendy Morrison July-TBD • 2:00pm Gallery Ginger is a flowering plant that is widely used as a spice or a folk medicine. What better way to use ginger than to make some delicious cookies? Come see Wendy prepare a favorite family recipe for easy ginger and molasses cookies called ginger crinkles. We will learn about ginger and its health benefits while sampling the sweeter side of ginger! Health Seminar Marisa Kalesnik, R.N. 2nd Friday • 10:30am Cypress Theater Marisa Kalesnik is an R.N. with Fusion Homecare and she will be hosting a monthly health seminar. May is Healthy Vision Month and Marisa will be discussing "Eyesight 101" which will include information on eye diseases and possible treatments. In June, Fusion will be hosting a Medical Equipment Safety Clinic to make sure canes, walkers, scooters, and wheelchairs are adjusted appropriately and working smoothly. With the heat in July, Marisa’s topic will be “Hydrate for the Summer” and she will explain the importance of staying hydrated as well as the negative effects associated with heat stroke. To wrap up the summer, Marisa will host a seminar on Skin Cancer Awareness. Just 10 minutes in the Florida sun could do damage to the skin so remember to put on sunscreen anytime you go outside! Be sure to join Marisa every month because being informed is our best defense! Herbal Tea Remedies Merissa Sass 3rd Saturday • 2:00pm Gallery Welcome to the World of Tea! Are you someone who enjoys afternoon tea time or have you never understood the appeal of tea? Either way, this class will have something for everyone! Merissa will continue to study teas from different countries each month. She will explain the enormous health benefits from drinking one of the world’s most widely consumed beverages. Merissa will be serving teas from: Canada, Australia, Korea, and Switzerland. Homemade at Heart Jazzmin Cabrera TBD-Monthly • 2:00pm The Gardens Not very artistic? Not to worry, neither is Jazzmin! What counts is that Jazzmin puts her whole heart into everything she does and she wants to show you how fun crafts can be even if you are not an expert. Join Jazzmin as she gives step-by-step directions on how to create easy crafts while enjoying a sweet and savory snack. By the end of the class, everyone's crafts will be the talk of the community!
COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Ice Cream Sundae on a Michael Hickey June-TBD • 2:00pm The Gardens Monday Join Mike as we make regular ice even colder! So cold, in fact, that we will be able to make our own delicious ice cream in honor of National Ice Cream Day! After we make ice cream, we will cover it with chocolate syrup, sprinkles, and other sweet goodies before we put a cherry on top! What a great way to celebrate summer! Insight Into Your Eyesight Carole Rose TBD-Monthly • 2:00pm Connections Lounge During the summer months, many people enjoy going to the beach, sitting by the pool, and soaking up the sunshine. While Carole enjoys the summer sun, she also is very aware of the potential health risks associated with prolonged exposure, especially when it comes to eyesight. Carole wants to start the summer off by celebrating Healthy Vision Month which is celebrated across the country in May. She wants to share tips for good eye health and eye care. In June, Carole has coordinated a trip to The Lighthouse for the Blind for anyone that is interested in a firsthand experience with this wonderful organization. In July, Carole is going to host a class on sensory stimulation as she explains how other senses can be developed over time to help you cope with one that is diminishing. To round out the summer, Carole is going to provide an informational class that will discuss the circulation of large print books in the library system as well as providing a demonstration that utilizes an application on her iPhone. The application allows her to read text, determine colors, and even count money. Join Carole every month as she shares interesting and valuable information from her own personal experiences in an effort to be an advocate for her community. In the Kitchen with Alex Alex Leffingwell TBD-Monthly • 2:00pm Gallery Over the past semester, Alex has tried his hand in the kitchen and wants to share this passion with his residents as they were the source of his inspiration. Alex will share with you his favorite recipes from baking to cooking. He will feature secret family recipes, recipes from other cultures, and recipes to celebrate the holidays. Join him each month as we celebrate being “In the Kitchen with Alex”.
COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Kentucky Derby Cocktails Merissa Sass May 4th • 3:00pm Gallery The Kentucky Derby has been called “The most exciting two minutes in sports!” Attending the Kentucky Derby is an all-day event filled with over a dozen races. There are various places to eat and a wide array of food options but there are only two traditional and acceptable cocktails to enjoy! The most common is a Mint Julep which is the official cocktail of The Kentucky Derby. The other option is the official cocktail of The Oaks which is called The Lily! The Oaks is the female version of the Kentucky Derby and is always held the day before, along with a Breast Cancer Survivor’s Walk around the track. Join Merissa in the Gallery as she mixes up both cocktails to get everyone in the Kentucky Derby spirit! Let's Talk Cats Merissa Sass June-TBD • 3:00pm Cypress Theater Did you know that over 3.4 million cats enter into shelters every year? And 1.4 million of those are euthanized. This makes June even more of a reason to visit your local pet shelter! This event takes place every year during the month of June, when kitten season is at a fever pitch, which is why June is National Adopt A Cat Month. Dive into the world of cats as Merissa explains why "Cats really do rule the world". If you want to learn everything there is to know about these furry four legged felines that are like family to some, then this is the class for you! Life-Stories Sharing Walter Schlomann 2nd Tuesday • 10:30am Cypress Theater This is an entertaining and dynamic program that combines past memories with current topics. This innovative class provides an opportunity for residents to reminisce, learn, and discuss in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. The class will include watching short videos relevant to the time and topic, lively discussions revolving around the topic, and of course storytelling! This is your time to relive powerful moments in your life and share those amazing stories with others. 1st and 3rd Monday • 10:30am Connections Lounge and Make It & Take It Lisa DeCamella 2nd and 4th Monday • The Gardens 10:30am Lisa has a passion for anything art related. She loves making holiday themed centerpieces and door decorations as well as one-of-a-kind paintings. Lisa also loves putting glitter on everything! Lisa will use her creative spirit to create a sample prior to each class and then will give step by step instructions to creating a perfect masterpiece! Participants with little to no artistic ability will love this class just as much as the professionals!
COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Memorial Day Merissa Sass May 28th • 2:00pm Cypress Theater Memorial Day, or Decoration Day, is a federal holiday in the United States which is currently observed every year on the last Monday of May. Memorial Day is not to be confused with Veterans Day. Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving, whereas Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans. This holiday marks the unofficial start of the summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end. Many people visit cemeteries and memorials to honor those who have died during military service. Volunteers place an American flag on each grave in national cemeteries. Let's take some time to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to defend our country and its freedoms. 2nd and 4th Wednesday Memory Lane Merissa Sass The Gardens • 6:00pm Reminisce in style as we travel back to the greatest decades in history. From candy to movie stars, music and more, this class will offer you the opportunity to go back in time and relive some of your greatest memories. Join Merissa each month as we remember the 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's. Men's Group with Mike Michael Hickey TBD-Monthly • 11:30am Lobby For men ONLY! This lunchtime gathering will be off campus at a local restaurant where manly drinks and hearty fare are readily available. Enjoy comradery and lively discussion of sports, politics, religion, and any other subject that comes to mind. Serious issues facing the world will be completely resolved. Betting pools may be established for Bowl games, playoff games, etc. Join this outing and enjoy doing “guy stuff”! Mike the Mad Scientist Michael Hickey August-TBD • 3:00pm Gallery Don’t try this at home! Don’t try this indoors either! In fact, don’t even try this! Just watch from a safe distance as Mike demonstrates one of the most popular experiments from his days as a classroom science teacher, an exothermic reaction times two! We will heat things up and we promise you will get a real bang out of it! As an added bonus, learn what happened to the Hindenburg! Mixology with Alex Alex Leffingwell TBD-Monthly • 2:00pm Gallery Calling all drink enthusiasts and cocktail connoisseurs! Whether you’re a fan of Manhattans or Margaritas, each class will have something for everyone to enjoy. Alex will show his talents range far beyond art by teaching you how to make the latest cocktails and even put a modern spin on some old favorites. Join us for a happy hour you won’t soon forget!

Did you know that watermelons are 92% water? No wonder they’re so refreshing! Join Shannon in the Gardens as she shares some fun facts about watermelons, explains the enormous health benefits from eating them, and serves some exotic watermelon dishes to tease your curiosity! Night of Zen Jazzmin Cabrera TBD-Monthly • 6:00pm The Gardens Feeling tired or stressed? The practice of Zen can make you feel relaxed and refreshed. Join Jazzmin for the night as you relax your mind with calming music and simple exercises. She will also demonstrate various ways to stay relaxed by maintaining proper posture, controlling your breathing, and keeping your mind at ease. Portrait Drawing Ileana Holman 3rd Tuesday • 10:30am Art Room Portraits inspired by “The Golden Age of Hollywood” are the foundation of this class as participants are taught coloring and shading techniques with colored pencils. With the use of a template and hands-on, step-by-step instructions, participants learn tips and tricks to make beautiful and expressive faces while having fun in a relaxed environment. This activity takes colored pencil drawing to another level and is suitable for all skill levels! Rewards of Recycling Elizabeth Gray August-TBD • 2:00pm Connections Lounge Did you know Americans throw away 2.5 million plastic bottles an hour? What impact does this have on our environment? What can we do to educate ourselves and save our planet? Elizabeth is coming back for another seminar on recycling to explain ways to lessen our environmental footprint. She will also share recycling efforts we have taken on as a community. Elizabeth will update the community on the impact we are making by recycling plastics, cardboard, and paper. If you don't know about the recycling program, please be sure to attend so you can help the community stay "green". Rise & Shine with Fusion Carly Pelland Wednesday • 10:00am The Gardens Carly is a Rehabilitation Technician with Fusion Healthcare. She will be hosting a class every Wednesday where she will lead residents in a fitness program specifically designed for seniors. Carly will be using sensory stimulation such as colorful equipment and music to truly engage our memory care residents. This class will include exercises which span a wide range of physical abilities. Carly will provide individualized assistance to ensure everyone receives the maximum benefit. Mornings have never felt so good!
COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Sea Shell Surprise Jennifer Baum June-TBD • 10:30am The Gardens We live near some of the world's most beautiful beaches. Millions of people visit Florida's Gulf Coast every year. In this class we will learn about some of the most common sea shells on the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. We will make a surprise craft using sea shells from our own backyard and reminisce about our favorite beach memories. Sit & Be Fit Lisa DeCamella Monday • 10:00am The Gardens Lisa has designed a dance fitness class that will make exercising fun for everyone! Lisa uses songs from the 40’s & 50’s all the way up to the 80’s to motivate participants to exercise on beat and to push themselves to move just a little bit faster. Participants can sit or stand during this 30-minute class which contains the perfect blend of cardio and strengthening exercises. Southeastern Guide Dogs Brooke Hoskins July-TBD • 2:00pm Lobby Southeastern Guide Dogs develops extraordinary partnerships between our dogs and the people who need them. They offer their dogs and services at no cost throughout the United States. From Guide Dogs for the visually impaired to our Paw for Patriots program for military veterans, Southeastern Guide Dogs gives freedom and hope to so many who need it. Brooke will talk about what goes into training these canine superheroes from the moment they are born. She will explain the differences between Guide Dogs, Service Dogs, and “Emotional Support Animals”. There will be dogs in training to meet as Brooke answers any other questions you might have. 1st and 3rd Monday • Spanish 101 Miriam Tennant Connections Lounge 2:00pm Hola! Como estas? Tu hables español? Have you ever wanted to learn this beautiful language? If so, this is the opportunity you have been waiting for! Miriam will be teaching vocabulary words, conversational Spanish, and popular phrases throughout the summer semester. Participants will be encouraged to practice their skills and improve from month to month. There has never been a better time to learn a new language than right now! 2nd and 4th Wednesday Stronger Seniors Exercise Shelbey Lane Cypress Theater • 10:00am This class will help teach you the importance of exercise and movement and how it can greatly improve your health and wellbeing. Join Shelbey as we learn basic muscular and cardiovascular physiology, as well as various weightlifting techniques. Come exercise your brain and your muscles with us!
COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Summer Cocktails Merissa Sass TBD-Monthly • 3:00pm Gallery Summer is fast approaching and Merissa wants to help you cool down with some delicious cocktails. In May she is taking a spin on a classic and will be making a Coconut Margarita. Cool down from June's hot weather and try a Kiwi Mai Tai. With everything patriotic in July, enjoy a Lava Flow Cocktail. Bahama Mama's will be flowing in August as summer comes to an end. Summer Suds Aileen Carlson June 22nd • 2:00pm Gallery What’s better on a hot summer day than an icy cold beer? Every summer activity has one thing in common – it makes you thirsty. Summer is a time for outdoor gatherings, cookouts, baseball games, beach trips, boat rides and endless fun. There are countless summer beer choices to choose from that we will sample until we find just the right one to cool us off! Summertime Safety Shelbey Lane May-TBD • 10:30am Cypress Theater Many people consider summer to be a carefree time full of vacations, travel, and spending time with family and friends. However, it is important to consider the possible health risks that come along with these hot and sunny months. Some of these risks include sunburn, heat stroke, and dehydration. Come join Shelbey as she discusses how to protect yourself and your health so you can fully enjoy the Sunshine State! Taste of Home Merissa Sass TBD-Monthly • 2:00pm Gallery Calling all residents! Is there a favorite recipe that you miss and wish you could still make today? If so, this is the class to attend! Once a month, Merissa will be recreating a resident's favorite recipe for everyone to enjoy. If there is a favorite dish that you would like to have, please share it with Merissa. Feel free to help her serve it too as she helps you recreate a “Taste of Home”. 2nd and 4th Monday • Tap Dancing Pat Zaegers Connections Lounge 10:00am This is a class where everyone can participate! Tap your feet and feel the rhythm from the comfort of your chair. In this class, participants will start with basic dance steps and gradually combine those steps into routines choreographed to popular songs. As the class progresses, participants will develop muscle memory which is great for engaging the brain. Most importantly, participants can exercise the body while socializing with friends. This is a whole body fitness class! Tap shoes are provided!
COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION The Battle of Gettysburg: Turning Point in the Michael Hickey July-TBD • 3:00pm Cypress Theater American Civil War For history buffs, July 1-3, 1863 are 3 very important days. Not only did the events during the Battle of Gettysburg change the course of the War Between the States, Mike thinks there was one particular event during that battle that made the difference and turned the tide of the war, changing the world forever. Join us for a fascinating lesson in history and discover some personal bravery in the process. The Dog Days of Summer Merissa Sass August-TBD • 2:00pm Gallery The Dog Days of Summer are the hottest and most sultry part of the summer. The Old Farmer’s Almanac lists the traditional timing of the Dog Days: the 40 days beginning July 3 and ending August 11, coinciding with the heliacal (at sunrise) rising of the Dog Star, Sirius. Merissa wants to help quaff your thirst with a frozen summer drink. She will also go over some tips on how to stay cool & hydrated during some of the hottest days of the season. Triple Crown Crazy Michael Hickey May-TBD • 2:00pm Cypress Theater The Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing is considered the greatest accomplishment of thoroughbred horse racing. In the past 144 years, only twelve horses have won the Triple Crown. What is it? How does a horse win it? Is there a horse who could win it this year? Join Mike as we look at the horses and the races, starting with the Kentucky Derby, then moving on to The Preakness, and finally The Belmont Stakes. What is the story of this marvelous elixir that has been Man’s Best Friend (seriously, when do old friends gather together to pet dogs?) for over half a millennium? Whiskey or Whisky? Single Malt? Zumba Gold Carrie Ingber Saturday • 10:30am Connections Lounge Zumba Gold is a version of Zumba which is a dance fitness program. Zumba Gold is specifically designed to meet the physiological, psychological, and anatomical needs of the senior population. The choreography in Zumba routines is created to complement Latin styles of music and can be performed either standing up or sitting down. Each week participants will learn steps and create routines. As each routine is mastered new ones will be introduced to correspond with new songs. Zumba Gold is taught by a certified instructor and is intended for all levels of physical ability.
Faculty Biographies NAME OF INSTRUCTOR CLASS NAME Jennifer Baum Sea Shell Surprise and Yummy Apple Pie Jennifer is the Sales Director at The Watermark at Trinity. She is a graduate from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor’s in Social Work. She began working at our sister property, The Fountains of Boca Ciega Bay, in St. Petersburg. Jennifer grew up in the area and is lucky to have family close by. Jennifer is an avid animal lover and her best friend is her dog, Samson. She loves being outside taking walks with Samson, working on her orchids, and boating. Jennifer recently got married and is very happy! Jennifer truly enjoys her job. She prides herself on being a resource for seniors in every aspect of Senior Living! A Dessert Kind of Night, Homemade at Heart, Night of Jazzmin Cabrera Zen, and Vegetarian Cooking Jazzmin is a Caregiver at The Watermark at Trinity. She graduated in the Spring of 2017 from Ridgewood High School and began her first career in Assisted Living with us in August 2017. She is the youngest of three children and many people would describe her as being shy. Jazzmin is grateful that this job has helped her grow as a person and she has found her passion working with residents in Memory Care. Her personality fits this environment so well that she has devoted four brand new Watermark University classes to these residents. Jazzmin's future career goal is to become a Damage Controlman, which in civilian terms means a Navy Firefighter. Aileen Carlson Cerveza! and Summer Suds Aileen is the Executive Director at The Watermark at Trinity. She has been with the Watermark family for over 15 years. Aileen joined the Trinity team from our sister property, The Fountains of Boca Ciega Bay, where she started in Community Life and worked her way up to Executive Director. Aileen is married and has two children, Tessa and Brendan. She graduated from the University of Florida. Aileen enjoys reading, watching sports (especially Gator Football), exercising, and she is the team manager for Tessa’s and Brendan's competitive soccer team. Lisa DeCamella Sit & Be Fit and Make It & Take It Lisa is a personal trainer with the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and loves creating fun workouts with great upbeat music. She has over 20 years of experience as a dance educator and incorporates rhythm and flexibility exercises into her classes. Lisa also loves art. She has a Bachelor of Science in Advertising from the University of Florida which inspires her to create colorful and fun art projects that bring everyone together. Lisa pours her heart into each exercise and art class she teaches because she is focused on making everyone smile and bringing a little happiness to everyone’s day!
NAME OF INSTRUCTOR CLASS NAME Elizabeth Gray Rewards of Recycling Beth is a nurse at The Watermark at Trinity. She began her career in healthcare in 1983 in Detroit, Michigan as a nursing assistant. Beth studied Validation Therapy while working as a GNA in Frederick, Maryland. She became an LPN in 2007. Beth has two sons, John (Chucky) who is 28 and Jimmy who is 24. She is very proud to say both of her sons are Eagle Scouts. Beth moved to Florida to be closer to her parents in Palm Harbor. In her spare time, Beth loves to watch the Lions, Tigers, Cubs, Pistons and Red Wings play. She has two cats named Tiger and Calvin Johnson. Beth considers herself non-traditional as she does not use a cell phone! Book Are Our Friends, Ice Cream Sundae on a Monday, Men's Group with Mike, Mike the Mad Michael Hickey Scientist, The Battle of Gettysburg: Turning Point in the American Civil War, Triple Crown Crazy, and World of Whiskey Mike is the driver for The Watermark at Trinity. He is a semi-retired former college professor, high school science teacher, and HVAC specialties sales engineer. Mike holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Boston University and Master of Science Degree from Mississippi State. He has three children and two grandchildren. Mike is a social butterfly and enjoys driving the residents around town so he can hear all of their amazing stories. When not driving residents, Mike enjoys traveling and good food. Pastimes have included racing and cruising sailboats, fishing, kayaking, tennis, golf, coaching wrestling, and shooting skeet. Ileana Holman Portrait Drawing Ileana is a portrait artist and instructor that hosts various classes throughout the tri-county area. She is a former ALF Administrator who wants to share her passion of “The Golden Age of Hollywood” with the seniors she loved caring for. Ileana’s artwork has been displayed at events in Florida, California, and the United Kingdom. She loves drawing, sketching, and teaching others how to bring their artwork to the next level. Brooke Hoskins Southeastern Guide Dogs Brooke is a volunteer with Southeastern Guide Dogs and the Tampa Area Puppy Raisers group where she currently "pup-sits". She continues to provide training when the puppies return to campus between 12 and 14 months old. This is the foundation they need before they can transition to possibly becoming a Guide Dog. Brooke got involved with Southeastern Guide Dogs three years ago when she adopted a dog from them. Brooke clearly loves dogs but also has two cats. She enjoys spending time with her family including her husband Matt and their two great kids. Brooke enjoys being outside, homemade blueberry pie, and seeing the good in the world.
NAME OF INSTRUCTOR CLASS NAME Carrie Ingber Zumba Gold Carrie is a certified Zumba & Zumba Gold instructor. She took up Zumba as a way to regain some strength after an accident but it has given her so much more. Zumba combines her love of music and dancing in one activity, which also happens to be great exercise and a wonderful social outlet. After four years as a Zumba student, Carrie decided to share her passion with others and became a certified instructor. Carrie has prepared routines and music so each class will be something new to enjoy! When Carrie isn’t at a Zumba class herself or busy creating new routines, she is enjoying time with family and her three adorable dogs. Marisa Kalesnik, R.N. Health Seminar Marisa is a Registered Nurse with Fusion Healthcare. Marisa was born in Massachusetts and moved to Florida in 2014. Marisa has over 22 years of nursing experience and is also an experienced care provider for Assisted Living Communities. Marisa enjoys going to the beach and is thankful her snow shoveling days are over! Blueberry Bliss, Cheese Lovers, College Football Shelbey Lane Countdown, Colorful Cocktails, Dog Lovers, Stronger Seniors Exercise, and Summertime Safety Shelbey is the newest addition to the Community Life team at The Watermark at Trinity. She has lived in Florida for most of her life and has actually never seen snow fall! Shelbey has her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Exercise Science from the University of Central Florida and the University of South Florida. Her passion is encouraging physical activity and healthy habits throughout the lifespan. She loves being outdoors, traveling, cruising, hiking, snorkeling, and watching hockey. She also loves spending time with her family, friends, dogs, and boyfriend. Art with Alex, In the Kitchen with Alex, and Mixology Alex Leffingwell with Alex Alex is the newest Concierge at The Watermark at Trinity but he has been with the community since the very beginning. Alex started as the head dining room server and has since been promoted to the Concierge. After seeing Alex’s talent during the Pumpkin Decorating Contest, he received many requests to teach an art class. Alex loves drawing and painting and has been doing both since the age of 5. Alex also enjoys singing and telling jokes. He loves animals so much that he is a vegan!
NAME OF INSTRUCTOR CLASS NAME Josh Marlowe Cooking Corner Josh is the Executive Chef and Dining Service Director at The Watermark at Trinity. His culinary career started in his mother’s kitchen at the age of 15. After graduating culinary school and working at various restaurants, Josh found his way to our sister property, The Fountains of Boca Ciega Bay. Josh began as a Sous Chef and as he worked his way up to Executive Chef, he found his calling for helping others. He left for two years to start his own restaurant in Fort Lauderdale but realized he missed the family environment of senior living and came back to join the Trinity team. He believes in creating food that ignites the senses. His guiding principle for cooking is about getting back to the basics and creating dishes with simple ingredients and seasonings. Josh is excited to cater to all of the residents and hopefully learn a few new things along the way! Cinco de Mayo Explorations and National Shannon Morelli Watermelon Day Shannon is the Program Director at The Watermark of Trinity. She discovered her passion for assisted living early in her nursing career and has worked in senior living for over 18 years. Shannon is a trainer for the Certified Dementia Care Practitioner program which is the specialized training offered to our “Nayas” that are caring for our memory care residents. Shannon was born and raised right here in the Tampa Bay area. She lives only minutes from the community with her husband of 11 years, Mike, 17 year old daughter Ammie, and 10 year old son Mikey. In her spare time, she enjoys trips to Hawaii, spending family time outdoors, or hitting the trails in her Jeep. Wendy Morrison Ginger Crinkles and Tin Can Alley Wendy is the Sales Associate at The Watermark at Trinity. She has been in sales and marketing for over 30 years. After 25 years in the designer fragrance industry, Wendy decided to change fields and found her way to senior living. Working with seniors and their families to find the right solutions for their needs was a great match for Wendy’s compassionate and caring heart. Wendy is very family oriented. She has been married for 43 years and has two children and two grandchildren. Wendy enjoys interior design, baking, walking, reading, and going on cruises in her spare time. Carly Pelland Fitness with Fusion and Rise & Shine with Fusion Carly Pelland is the Lead Rehabilitation Technician/Client Services with Fusion HealthCare. She has been with Fusion for over three years and has over twelve years of experience in the healthcare industry. Carly was born and raised in Florida and enjoys boating, fishing and visiting all the beautiful beaches the state has to offer. Carly is engaged and has one daughter, Desiree. She is also an avid animal lover and has three dogs, a bearded dragon, five hens and a rooster!
NAME OF INSTRUCTOR CLASS NAME Carole Rose Insight Into Your Eyesight Carole is a resident at The Watermark at Trinity and was our first Resident Watermark University Faculty Member! Carole and her husband Ron moved to the community in November of 2016. Carole grew up in Indiana and really loves the Colts and Pacers. She was a Librarian at the State Library for 46 years and still enjoys learning something new every day! Carole’s favorite Watermark University Classes to attend are Art with Alex and Spanish 101. This is Carole's third semester teaching. Her classes have been some of the highest attended classes throughout the semester. Carole was recently nominated for Resident Watermark University Faculty Member of the Year! Artistic Expressions, Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, Everything Red, White, and Blue, Herbal Tea Remedies, Kentucky Merissa Sass Derby Cocktails, Let's Talk Cats, Memorial Day, Memory Lane, Summer Cocktails, Taste of Home, The Dog Days of Summer Merissa is a Community Life Assistant at The Watermark at Trinity. She is very fun-loving and active. It has been said that Merissa’s laugh is contagious! She prides herself on making each and every day special for not only her residents but also her peers. She loves decorating and planning special events. Merissa loves cats, going to concerts, and cruising! She just got engaged and is enjoying the good life! Walter Schlomann Life-Stories Sharing Walter is an award winning filmmaker. His programs have aired on PBS, TV Land, History Channel, MTV, Biography Channel, and Comedy Central. He has worked with stars such as Michael Stipe and Cyndi Lauper. Walter has filmed helicopter scenes in the Australian Outback, directed “Scotty” of Star Trek on a wild aerial ride through New York, and has even worked with crocodiles, kangaroos, and mermaids! He is the president and creative director of Heritage Media Group, the founder of Life-Stories Sharing, and president of Carrollwood Toastmasters Club. Miriam Tennant Spanish 101 Miriam is the Director of Plant Operations at The Watermark at Trinity. She is very family oriented and loves spending time with her wonderful husband, two children, and three grandchildren. Miriam enjoys traveling and experiencing new places. She is very passionate and thoroughly enjoys celebrating the holidays! Miriam has always been a very expressive person who loves to have fun in every situation. She takes every opportunity to build stronger relationships with residents, family members, associates, and peers.
NAME OF INSTRUCTOR CLASS NAME Paul Umbaugh, III Bible Study Discussion Paul is a decorated veteran who has spent his life helping others through a variety of different positions. Paul was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in the Army. During his career, he has worked with the Presidential Honor Guard and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Detail. He served as a first responder with the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office as well as Pasco Fire and Rescue. He also served with the Florida Joint Replacement & Sports Medicine Center and worked as a personal trainer for athletes, friends and co- workers. Paul holds degrees in criminology and psychology from Northwestern University and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Society. Adrian Williams Adrian's Kitchen and Bible Study Adrian is a Certified Nursing Assistant at The Watermark at Trinity. Family is very important to him as he is one of 11 children! Adrian is very close with his siblings as well as his mother. One of his favorite things is family gatherings, and when there are gatherings, there is always food! Adrian enjoys cooking and his competitive spirit constantly pushes him to do better, create bigger, and try everything. In the future, Adrian hopes to travel the world and perhaps even become a flight attendant. Pat Zaegers Tap Dancing Pat is a tap dance instructor. She graduated from the University of South Florida where she earned a degree in Exercise Physiology. Pat started dancing at the age of four. She has attended tap conferences around the country where she is constantly picking up new material. Pat is currently teaching children and adults in multiple dance studios in the tri-county area. She is excited to bring tap dance to the community and looks forward to seeing the class continue to develop throughout the semester.
