MILPERRA COLTS JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB | YEARBOOK 2018 Grant Boiling’s PRESIDENT’S REPORT Well what a year for the Milperra Colts!! We went from the lowest of lows to the highest of highs. The 2017 year ended with the passing of Committee member and dear friend Vicki Cambey and early 2018 the passing of ex committee member Angelo Piazzetta. Both so sadly missed but will never be forgotten at the Colts for their hard work and dedication to the club. We welcomed a new jersey for the launch of our 2018 season. This was a result of some new major sponsors to the club. I would like to personally thank Norm, Darren and his team from Lantrak not only for becoming major sponsors but for becoming friends and a huge part of the club. Our Gala day this year was a day to remember. This was highlighted with a helicopter from Lantrak that landed at the ground during the day. Something the kids and adults loved! All our sponsors were involved in the day to make it the success it was. We can’t thank them enough for this. We also changed our other major sponsor to Panania Pub. Mark and his team have been fantastic during the season and the committee have enjoyed selling raffle tickets on Friday nights getting to know the patrons and making many new friends and raising much needed funds for the club. On field we had teams from under 5’s to under 15’s, also welcoming our first ever all female team in the under 15 League tag competition. This was great to see and a very proud moment for me. I hope they all return next year and we can build on increasing the number of female participants. We had several teams make it through to the semi finals this year and progressing to the finals. We had one team make it to the Grand Final which was our under 14’s. Not only did they win this they went on to win the Immortals Challenge at Campbelltown the following week. Several of these players were picked for the Canterbury development side. Well done boys you make the club proud! Many of these boys and our committee joined forces with Lantrak to help feed the homeless on Friday nights. This is a wonderful thing that Lantrak do and I encourage everyone to help out our sponsor by donating a couple of hours on a Friday night. It is something that makes you feel good to be able to help out others in the community. During the season we held a pink day in memory of Vicki Cambey. The funds raised from this day were donated to breast cancer research. It was a great day and a wonderful way to remember our dear friend. Thanks to all the work the committee put into this day to make it a success. 06
MILPERRA COLTS JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB | YEARBOOK 2018 Grant Boiling’s PRESIDENT’S REPORT One of the most exciting things to happen to the club was being named the Canterbury JRLFC club of the year. This is an outstanding achievement and was a team effort. This comes down to the club, committee, players, parents and spectators so thank you all. This award is for every single one of you! All the hours of set up, pack up, working the BBQ, canteen and the many other jobs it takes to run a successful club, we thank you! After receiving this accolade we were informed that we were nominated by NSWRL to be the NSW club of the year. Some of the committee attended the night and to our surprise we won!! We are the number 1 club in NSW!!! This is truly a wonderful achievement and could not have happened without the hard work and dedication of so many people from the Colts! We are going to celebrate this award! We are the first Canterbury club to win this award so this is huge! Be proud to be a Coltie!! However we aren’t done there, our very own Secretary Dave Springall also won the Canterbury JRLFC volunteer of the year! What an amazing year! I would personally like to thank Dave for everything he has done for the club. He is not only part of the committee but a friend to many! Well done, Dave! Thank you to all the committee for your tireless efforts, thank you to all our new and returning sponsors we could not have done this without you and lastly to the most important people of all – the kids! We have worked so hard this year to improve the standard of the club. We are a family club, the children are a part of this family. We will continue to work hard to give you all the best of everything, all we ask is that you wear your green, black and white with pride and always represent the club to a high standard! Enjoy your break and we will see you next year for an even bigger and better year!! 07
MILPERRA COLTS JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB | YEARBOOK 2018 David Springall’s SECRETARY’S REPORT 2018 marks a hugely successful season for the Milperra Colts on and off the field. The Milperra Colts registered 11 teams in 2018 ranging from the Under 5s to the Under 15s. We had 155 registered players in 2018. Of these players 68 were new players to the Colts. It was really exciting to have the opportunity to welcome the girls playing in the Under 15s League Tag. It all started way back in March with our first trial games against Minto Cobras. After another week of trials against Brighton, the season kicked off in April. It was great to see our players in the new jerseys.I would like to thank Tracey Bombaci for all her hard work organising the new playing gear for this season. This was a mammoth job and the players looked amazing. The Milperra Colts celebrated a number of big events in 2018. Our Gala Day in May was a huge day. Visitors to Killara Reserve could visit many food and gift stalls, get a photo with the Super Hero Iron Man or Captain America. There were also some great games and Man of the Match medals for all teams presented by our major sponsor Lantrak. A huge thank you to Lucinda Cooke and her team for organising a great day that our club could be proud of. The club also organised a “Wear Pink For Vicki” round. All teams played at home and wore special pink socks for the day. There was also fund raising including a huge raffle to raise money for breast cancer research. Well done to Nick Passalis, Vanessa Walshe and their team for organising a great day to remember Vicki Cambey. To be announced the Canterbury Club of the Year and the NSW Grassroots Club Of the Year in 2018 were huge events for the Milperra Colts. These awards are due to the hard work of our whole Colt’s Community. It is impossible to thank everyone that has helped out this season. However, below are some heartfelt thanks to some people who have done so much to make us the Club of the Year in 2018. In fact the Milperra Colts would cease to exist if not for all the dedicated committee members, coaches, trainers, managers and parents who give up their time unselfishly every week to enable our players to run around on the footy field. Coaches and Trainers: Thank you to all our dedicated coaches and trainers in 2018. It was a privilege to watch your dedication to your teams and your willingness to teach the players the skills needed to play the game you obviously love so much. We welcomed several new coaches this years which included Steve Matai (Under 14s), David Towers (Under 12s), John Abouhaidar (Under 5s) and Stephen Crawford (Under 9s). Scott Lane also put his hand up to coach the Under 8s for the first time in 2018. Our new trainers in 2018 included; Michael Allotta, Anthony Barrett, Dane Bathis, Jaydern Contreras, Richard Makdessi, Richard Regan and Andrew Renton. We hope that all our new coaching staff had a great season and will come back in 2019. 08
MILPERRA COLTS JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB | YEARBOOK 2018 David Springall’s SECRETARY’S REPORT Managers: Often the busiest members of our community, a huge thank you must go to all our managers in 2018. From washing jerseys to organising parents to work in the canteen to keeping track of the time and scores on game day, you have all gone above and beyond the call of duty each week. Parents and Families: A club does not have a successful season without the support of the players, parents and family members. At the Milperra Colts, we have a great community of helpers. Thank you to everyone who worked in the canteen or barbecue, helped set up fields, helped with special events, transported kids to games and supported our players in such a positive way. Committee: My final thanks must go to a great group of people and friends who give up their time each week to make sure we have a successful club. These dedicated people work so hard and should feel proud of everything our club has achieved in 2018. It was also a huge honour to receive the Canterbury Bankstown JRL Volunteer of the Year. This award is for everyone who has supported me over the years. As I said in my speech, this award is due to the hard work of so many people in the club. There is so much to be proud of in 2018. We wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and New Year and hope to see everyone back playing for the Colts in 2019. A COUPLE OF MY FAVOURITE MOMENTS FROM THE YEAR On the Gala Day the players gave appreciation cards to the The Under 14s volunteered their time as part of the “Lantraks referees. Real sportsmanship in action. Thanks Sam Ross Dining With The Community” at St Marys. for making these great cards. 09

MILPERRA COLTS JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB | YEARBOOK 2018 In loving MEMORY During this season, the Milperra Colts lost two much loved members of our community, Vicky Cambey and Angelo Piazzeto. Angelo Piazzetta Angelo served the Milperra Colts over a number of years as coach, trainer and committee member. So many past and present players were welcomed by Angelo’s big smiling face. Angelo’s efforts were recognised by the club when he was named the Club Person of the Year in 2008. He was also a good friend to many at the club. Unfortunately Angelo lost his battle with brain cancer earlier this year. Our thoughts are with Judy, Vincent, Oliver and Christopher. Vicki Cambey Vicki Cambey was an extremely active member of our club as a parent, manager and committee member. Over many years. Vicki selflessly gave up her time to allow kids to play Rugby League for the Milperra Colts. Vicki sadly passed away from breast cancer late last year. Vicki was a good friend to many in the club and is sadly missed. Our thoughts continue to be with her husband Jeff and children Kailan and Holly. During the season, the club organised a “Wear Pink For Vicki” Round. This weekend raised funds for breast cancer research. 13

MILPERRA COLTS JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB | YEARBOOK 2018 John Abou-Haidar’s UNDER 5’S COACHES REPORT To all the parents just wanted to say a big thank you on behalf of myself and the coaching staff. From your help at training, the game and whenever the club needed us to pitch in with a hand. It has been a pleasure getting to know each and everyone of you. I have had your full support from the beginning. All your children were very well mannered and behaved, they are a true testament of their parents. The kids are all so unique. With a mixture of personalities from really shy to really big personalities. It was also a pleasure getting to know all of them. It was a challenge and a goal I set myself early in the season to try and get all the kids up to the same skill level and concentrate on the kids that needed more work all while being as fair as possible to all the kids. Although all the kids are not all on the same level, I am still very pleased with their development. The main objective was that they were improving week to week which I think we achieved. As a team, we managed to win the last seven games straight and only had three losses which were very early on in the season. I am really excited for 2019 season and we have a heap of new activities for the kids to help them play as a team and with their skills and development. Also a real special mention to the trainers Danny and Richard for All their help throughout the year training the kids And on game day, I couldn’t done it without them. And last but by far not least our superstar manager Angie for making sure everything was in order week to week, and by updating and educating me on the rules by yelling them out to me while I’m on the field lol, you’re the best and thank you. We hope to see all the same playing group back in 2019. All the best. MILPERRA COLTS JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB | YEARBOOK 2018 Matthew Walshe’s UNDER 6’S COACHES REPORT The season of 2018 for under 6 Milperra colts team was a great year for all players and parents involved. I would like to congratulate all players on their performances and great sportsmanship during the year. We had four new players join our team this year from last, and what a team it was. From blistering runs from all over the park to scoring great tries, to brick wall defence. It was great to see our team progress so far during the season. The under 6 colts side has plenty of potential and will keep improving immensely as each year goes by. Dave and I had an awesome time with the boys and hope all players had as much fun playing as we did coaching and training. We hope to see you all return next year at Milperra colts for another season. MILPERRA COLTS JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB | YEARBOOK 2018 Stephen Crawford’s UNDER 9’S COACHES REPORT 2018 for the Under 9s Division 2 saw many great moments both on and off the field. Two merging teams who week after week began to mould together as one. As a new coach to the club, it was great to meet the players and see which level of skills they had obtained throughout their previous years, and begin to focus on areas which we can improve. Being the team’s first season in competition level, it was such a joy to watch their development and their desire to compete and be a strong opponent moving forward into their first semi-finals. The most outstanding game of the year would have to be Round 16 against St Christophers. The lead up to this game was fairly average as during the week training spiralled into mucking around and practicing their Fortnite dances. This left Dane and I with little confidence we would get the result we were after heading into the match. As a surprise to us they came out and dug deep for each other, worked collectively and came up with the win with the end result being 28-20, and set us up really well heading into the Semis. MILPERRA COLTS JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB | YEARBOOK 2018 Kevin Chambers’ UNDER 10’S COACHES REPORT 2018 was a fantastic season for the Under 10s who showed tremendous improvement over the course of the year. The team is filled with respectful and enthusiastic members which the club and their parents can be proud of. The players showed up to training every night willing to take on new ideas and push themselves to their limit physically. We finished in a credible fourth place, (ninth last season) narrowly losing our semi-final to a team that had beaten us convincingly earlier in the season. Our aim was to encourage the team to play entertaining expansive footy combined with aggressive defence. Our semi-final game was a great example of this. This team has an exciting future and is ready to take the next step. Coaching is a team effort and everyone involved with the Under 10s are equally responsible for our performances. Many thanks to Hayley for her efforts as our manager making our team run smoothly and my job easier. Also, a big thanks to Niu Faioso for his efforts with our defence. Joe and Anthony were a tremendous help as trainers. Thanks to all the parents for trusting us to coach and guide your children, it’s a responsibility we take seriously and all love. Bring on 2019! MILPERRA COLTS JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB | YEARBOOK 2018 Barry Ward’s UNDER 11’S COACHES REPORT Another great year by the entire team. We led the competition from start to finish throughout the regular season. It was a nice reward for the boys to win the minor premiership but unfortunately, we went out the hard way. This obviously was a disappointing way to finish the year in this fashion but I still believe we had a fantastic year. The boys certainly gelled well together and were pleasing to watch as individuals and more importantly as a team. As a coach, I can honestly say that I am very lucky to have a team of wonderful and respectful kids. To Col & Rob I again thank you for all your hard work throughout the year and I certainly could not be able to do this without you both. A team manager is probably the hardest job within a team environment. Leticia, I cannot thank you enough for keeping the entire team on and off the field well informed throughout the whole year. To the parents /families I thank you all for your support during the year. You should be very proud of your kids. I look forward to coaching each and every one of the boys in 2019. MILPERRA COLTS JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB | YEARBOOK 2018 David Towers’ UNDER 12’S COACHES REPORT 2018 started off very well with good numbers and the players seem to enjoy their new coaching and training staff. Jayden and myself discussed what we wanted to get out of this year and that was to see individual improvement in every player. We were happy that every player did improve on their game but struggled to become a great team. The times that the team trained well we could see it on game day. We pushed the top teams and just missed out on the wins by goal kicking or letting late tries in. With a lot of distractions this year with injuries, players not turning up to training it hurt us as a team this year. The potential in this team of players was there and it’s a shame that they will lose the girls next year. I want to thank all the parents that helped this year by supporting us in a tough year. Thanks to Vanessa who managed the team well. You are great asset to the team and the club. Also, a great friend to support me the way you did through the season. To Jayden on your first-year training, you did a massive job. It’s not easy to train at any age but you committed every week and players had a great time with you. Thank you for your help, I hope you learnt a lot and keep training and teaching your skills to young players. To David Springall you brought a lot of players to the team this year and I thank you for your support and help throughout the season. Also to the other coaches, trainers, and executives of the club thanks you for your help and support. MILPERRA COLTS JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB | YEARBOOK 2018 Steve Matai’s UNDER 14’S COACHES REPORT We started the season with a narrow loss to St Johns Eagles who had won the Division Competition the previous year. We played them again half way through the season in Round 8 and managed to beat them, slowly we started to gel as a team. We ended up finishing the season in 2nd place behind Chester Hill. We lost our first semi-final to Chester Hill as the boys did not play their best on this day however, made it up the following week in the preliminary final against St Johns where they were forced to stop the game at half time due to injuries propelling us into the Grand Final against our nemesis Chester Hill where we took out the premiership by winning 30-22. By winning the competition we had the honour of defending the title at the Conference Championships where we played Concord first round and won on the last kick by Jake kicking a goal that no one wanted to take. The final was against Chester Hill AGAIN and we demolished them to become the Conference Champions. The other highlight was when the boys attended to help feed the homeless at St Marys with Lantrak, where they were all helpful and gained our respect. We would like to say a big thanks to Tracey for being our manager and organising many events, Joe for the massages, Joe (Solomone’s Dad) for helping out at training and some games, Barry & Dave for cursing our game with Chester Hill, Nick and Scott for their contribution and lastly Rob for training and carrying all the water bottles.
