And the cardinal sin is dullness frank capra This season’s evening films will be focussing on the Oscar winners and nominations and to fit them all in we’ve added extra screenings. We are pleased to announce a new collaboration with the Creative Arts School at DkIT. Five of our evening films this season will be preceded by a short 10 minute film by students at DkIT. The students will also give a presentation after the film and invite questions from the audience.
Basement Gallery 3 - 29 Tue - Sat Sept 10.00am - 4.00pm Free Artist in Residence Open Studio Sean McGuill Sean McGuill will host an open studio in September, displaying some work in progress and artwork made during his Summer residency. Sean McGuill is a visual artist from Bellurgan who recently graduated from Limerick School of Art and Design with a degree in Printmaking and Contemporary Practice. His work has been exhibited in a number of locations across Ireland as well as internationally. He has been selected for various awards including the John John Shinners Selection at the 2017 LSAD Drawing Awards and was shortlisted for the 2017 Hennessy Portrait Prize. His practice is based on themes relating to visual culture and mass media, working with a variety of processes including printmaking, painting, drawing and collage. Sept 8th | 1pm | Workshop Sean will give a demonstration going through the process of how he makes a drawing and gives some practical tips that can be easily applied to your own artwork. Suitable for ages 12 - 16 years. Sept 21st | 6-8 pm | Live interactive drawing Part of An Táin Arts Centre’s Culture Night celebrations, a large scale drawing experience suitable for the entire family. The Tayman, The Tomcats and Others: the stories of Eamon Kelly as told by Jack Healy Up to the time of his death in 2001, Eamon Kelly was a household name in Ireland, largely through the media of TV and Radio, as a Seanachi or ‘old Irish story-teller’. He regaled the nation with all kinds of stories drawn from recollections of his Kerry childhood and from rural life in general, and as he would say, ‘in my father’s time’. Actor Jack Healy gives a selection of these stories new life in this one man show, placing the work in the context of Kelly’s other persona, that of a carpenter and woodwork teacher. Studio Theatre 14 8.00pm Sept €15 / €12 Rise - EP Launch Alice Robinson Alice Robinson is a Louth-based alternative singer-songwriter who creates unique musical and lyrical vocabularies. Alice’s vocal style drifts uneasily, luring the listener in with pretty and tender vocal lines before succumbing to heartrending shouts and wails of suppression and resistance. With Kieran Harrington on bass, Ciaran McCreary on electric guitar and Conor Taaffe on drums, they impressively navigate the melodic terrain. Studio Theatre 15 8.00pm Sept €5

From the Cradle to the Grave : A Dave Allen Storyline Kieran Cunningham Newry-born actor and writer Kieran Cunningham takes his love of Irish comedy legend Dave Allen to its ultimate extent, packing theatres up and down the length and breath of the UK from the Manchester Royal Exchange to London’s Phoenix Theatre, including the legendary Edinburg Festival. Sing to Me Kyle Riley Following on from the success of Little Folk, Kyle Riley is back to get you and your little ones moving. The Sing to Me tour features songs from his 2018 release of the same title, some traditional children’s music and a little something for the grown ups. It’s an hour of engaging music filled with singing, percussive instruments, floating scarves and bubbles. For your under 6s, your rock toddlers and the little boppers in between, it’s good fun for the whole family. 9 Nov Main Theatre 8.00pm €18 / €16 Frank Pig Says Hello Co-Motion Media Desperately funny and yet deeply tragic, Frank Pig Says Hello is one of the great classics of modern Irish theatre. It tells the story of Francie Brady growing up in a small Irish town in the 1960s and his descent towards a brutal act that shocks his community. Based on Pat McCabe’s Booker-winning novel “The Butcher Boy”, the play distils Francie’s infamous narrative into a riveting evening of pure theatre. Featuring mesmerising performances by two actors, Darragh Byrne and John Ruddy, Frank Pig is regarded as one of the most vivid, hilarious and heart-breaking evocations ever seen on a stage of an Irish childhood and adolescence gone wrong. From the opening live trumpet notes over an image of a happy, comical boy acting the piglet, to the breath-taking depiction of a dark deed, this is theatre at its most entertaining and gripping best.
