Welcome to the East View Patriot Band Program! The Patriot Band Boosters are excited to welcome you to the Patriot Band family. The Boosters have been working diligently to find ways to bring new, incoming parents up to speed quickly. The purpose of this guide is to hopefully answer any questions you may already have, or prompt questions you didn’t know to ask. WHO ARE THE EVPB BOOSTERS? The most obvious question you may have is who or what are the EVPB Boosters. The booster program is comprised of current band parents and family. There are no special requirements to become a member of the EVPB Boosters. You are already a member! Our purpose is to support the band program and its directors as best we can through fundraising and providing manpower for football games, contests, trips, and events. The Boosters are led by an executive board comprised of band parents and the directors. The Boosters have an open general membership meeting every month. All are welcomed to attend. At each meeting, committee reports are read and a financial report is given. Booster meetings are a great way to keep in touch with all of the background work being done to keep the program running. We highly encourage your participation. Please reach out to us at any time if you need help or want to help. We will always find a place for you! IMPORTANT THINGS YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE CARE OF Sports Physical A sports physical is REQUIRED to participate in marching band. GISD has moved their physical packet online and can be found at: http://www.georgetownisd.org/Domain/515 In order for your physical to count toward the 2017-2018 school year, it must be taken AFTER May 1, 2017. The evaluation form that your physician needs to fill out is located at the link provided above. MAKE SURE THE WATERMARK ON THE FORM STATES 2017-2018. Page 1 of 9
GISD Background Check All volunteers MUST complete a GISD background check. If you plan on volunteering with the band program in any capacity, you must have a background check on file. Make plans to fill out a GISD background check AFTER August 1, 2017. If you complete the check before August 1st, it will not count for the 2017-2018 school year. The Boosters request that you take care of your background check as early in August as you can. The check can take up to 10 days to process, so the earlier you get the request in, the better. GISD has detailed instructions on how to use the Skyward FastTrack system. You can find all the information you need regarding background checks at: http://www.georgetownisd.org/site/Default.aspx?PageID=5683 Band Fees and Payment Plans We encourage you to speak with a band director before withdrawing your child from the program based on the band fees. The directors will work with you to set up a payment plan. NO STUDENT WILL BE DENIED PARTICIPATION DUE TO BAND FEES. The Boosters do not handle student accounts, therefore, if you have a question about band fees, payment plans, or individual student accounts, please reach out to the directors. GOOGLE CALENDAR Beginning this year, the band will be using Google Calendar. The band calendar will be viewable on the band’s website at www.evband.org on the “Calendar” tab. Football Games The band hits the ground running. The first football game is usually the first or second week of school. The Boosters provide assistance through manpower. Each game requires parental assistance to chaperone the buses, assist the percussion section (pit crew), place props and drum major stands (prop crew) and of course, cheer for the band at halftime! Marching Contests The month of October is the competitive season. Most marching contests will take place on Saturdays during the month of October. Chaperones, pit crew, and prop crew are needed for each contest. Make plans to keep your child’s schedule open every Saturday in October. If you have conflicts, please discuss those with a director at the appropriate time. Below are the tentative dates for our contest season: CONTEST DATE Bands of America September 23, 2017 Vista Ridge Marching Festival October 7, 2017 U.I.L.
