The Alliance for the Advancement of Infant Mental Health As of 12/31/20, there are a total of 3,841 Infant (3,715) and Early Childhood (126) Mental Health Endorsed® professionals!
Infant Mental Health Endorsement (IMH-E ®) • Recognizes achievement of knowledge and training • Recognizes specific work with infants and toddlers (ages 0-3) and their caregivers • Identifies best practice competencies at multiple levels and across disciplines • Offers a pathway for professional development in the infant, early childhood and family field CREDENTIAL: The Endorsement is not a license or certification Administered by the Kansas Association for Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (KAIMH)

Reflective Supervision/Consultation (RS/C) • Specific type of supervision that is the standard of practice in the early childhood field. • Distinction due to the shared exploration of the parallel process. • All of the relationships are important • How do each of these relationships affects the others? • Attends to the emotional content of the work and how reactions to the content affect the work.
Infant Family Associate Requirements Promotion • Education/Work Experience • Any academic degree OR Child Development Associate OR Associate’s degree OR 2 years early childhood experience (including specific related volunteer experience)
Infant Family Specialist Requirements Prevention • Education • BA, BS, BSW, BSN, MA, MS, MSW, MEd, MSN, MAS, PhD, EdD, PsyD • Work Experience (minimum 2 years paid, post-Bachelor’s) • Minimum of 10 families of children 0-36 months • Primary focus of services is social-emotional needs • Include attention to the relationships surrounding the child’s mental health • Reflective Supervision/Consultation • Minimum 24 clock hours within 1-2 year time frame while providing services to infants/young children & families • RS/C provider must meet requirements for IMH Endorsement® at IFS (Masters), IMHS, or IMHM-Clinical if not Endorsed
Infant Mental Health Specialist Requirements Relationship-Based Treatment • Education • MA, MS, MSW, MEd, MSN, EdD, PsyD, PhD, MD, DO, or other specific to professional focus on Infant Mental Health • Specialized Work Experience • 2 years post graduate, supervised; with BOTH infant / young child and primary caregiver on behalf of their relationship • 1 year supervised graduate internship with direct IMH practice may be counted toward the 2 year paid work experience requirement • Reflective Supervision/Consultation • Minimum 50 clock hours in 1-2 year timeframe while providing specialized work • Provider of RS/C meets criteria for or is Endorsed as Infant Mental Health Specialist or Infant Mental Health Mentor- Clinical Successful completion of the written exam.
Infant Mental Health Mentor Requirements Leadership • Three Designations • Clinical, Policy, or Research/Faculty • Education • MA, MS, MSW, MEd, MSN, EdD, PsyD, PhD, MD, DO, or other specific to professional focus on Infant Mental Health • Specialized Work Experience Clinical: Meets IMHS, plus 2 years post graduate, supervised; with BOTH infant / young child and primary caregiver on behalf of their relationship. Provider of IECMH RS/C for 3 years. Policy and Research/Faculty: 3 years post-graduate experience as a leader in IMH policy and/or program administration OR University teaching and/or published research.
Infant / Early Childhood Mental Health Mentor Requirements Cont. Leadership • Reflective Supervision/Consultation • Minimum 50 clock hours in 1-2 year timeframe • Required for Clinical ONLY • Optional for Policy, Research/Faculty Successful completion of the written exam.
