ENTRIES WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTED ONLINE AND A COMPETITOR WILL ONLY BE REGISTERED ONCE THEY HAVE PAID IN FULL VIA DANCE COMP GENIE. BY REGISTERING FOR THE COMPETITION AND TICKING THE BOX AT CHECK OUT, YOU ARE ACKNOWLEDGING THAT YOU HAVE READ AND ACCEPTED ALL RULES, TERMS AND CONDITIONS RELATING TO THE COMPETITION INCLUDING PAYMENT OF FEES, REFUNDS AND REGISTRATIONS. GENERAL CONDITIONS 1] STATUS: Competitions are only open to Amateurs, meaning one whose income is not derived mainly NEW ZEALAND DANCE AWARDS from performing and/or teaching dance. AGE GROUPS Age as at 1 January 2022 Mini 6 Years & Under, Petite 7-8 Years, Junior 9 - 11 years, Intermediate 12 - 14 years, Senior 15 Years & Over All Solos will perform in their own age group or possibly amalgamated if deemed necessary. For Duo/Trios, these will be averaged by age as of 1 January 2022. If there is a decimal this will be rounded down. Dancers 13 years and over cannot perform in Junior/under 12yrs sections. If the average age is under 12 years the Duo/Trio/Group must perform 12 years and over. Groups will perform at average age. TINY STARS Tiny Stars is an under 6 years display class, competitors in the Open Solo Sections cannot perform in this class. ELIGIBILITY OF COMPETITORS Any competitor that has been taught [excluding master classes/workshops] during the past 2 years by any of our official adjudicators, may NOT be eligible to compete. PERFORMANCE All performances MUST be geared to family viewing. FINAL AUTHORITY If an issue is noted it must be brought to the attention of the Convener immediately and can be dealt with accordingly. Their decision is final and no discussion will be entered into after a decision has been made. VIDEOING AND/OR PHOTOGRAPHY All videoing and photography will be actioned by the official videographer and photographer, and will be available for your purchase. NO PERSONAL VIDEO OR PHOTOGRAPHY IS PERMITTED AT FINALS. 2] TIME LIMITS 2.00min NZ TOP DANCER Qualifiers. 2.30min Junior Competitors [under 12 years] 3.00min Senior Competitors [12 years & over] 3.00min All age Duo’s /Trio’s excl. Song & Dance 4.00min Song & Dance Solo’s, Song & Dance Duo’s/Trio’s 4.00min All Groups, including Song & Dance 8.00min Production Groups 3 speeds are excluded from the time limit above refer to 7] routine definitions – 3 Speed. Music found to be over time WILL be docked 5 marks. Music will be faded at the time limit to prevent NZDA running off schedule. Please make sure your music is compliant with the time limits. 3] MUSIC: • All Music must be uploaded to your Dance Comp Genie account after entering. • All Music MUST be uploaded no later than 25 May 2022. • Please have a backup of your music on a device on your person at the event. 4] ORDER OF PERFORMANCE Competitors must dance in the order stated in the festival program. Any changes due to costuming will be authorised at the discretion of the announcer who may put a hold on that item for an appropriate duration. Competitors must dance in the order drawn for NZ’s Top Dancer! 5] REGISTRATION FEE • One payment of $45 per competitor. • Include E-program • There is no door charge for audience, EXCLUDING ANY GROUP EVENTS AND THE NEW ZEALAND DANCE AWARDS FINALS GALA.
6] ADVANCED SCHEDULE An advanced schedule will be emailed out to all competitors after the event has been scheduled. 7] ROUTINE DEFINITIONS & STYLES AVAILABLE NEW ZEALAND DANCE AWARDS TINY STAR JAZZ SOLO MUSICAL THEATRE JAZZ: A routine that interprets a song from a musical or musical theatre piece. Lip syncing is not advised. LYRICAL: Routine should demonstrate balance, extension, isolations and control utilizing the lyrics or mood of the music. CONTEMPORARY: Routine should utilize contemporary style to show extension, balance and control to interpret the music or theme. HIP HOP SONG AND DANCE: Routine must contain singing and any style of dance. No lead vocals or competitor vocals are allowed in the music in the singing section of the routine. 8 Years & Under only or as part of the Musical Theatre Award. TAP SOLO: Routine must contain tap technique and primarily tap work. It is preferred that tap sounds are not pre-recorded in the music. Can be any style. 3 SPEED: 1 Chorus of each Slow, Rhythm and Buck/Fast SLOW/WALTZ TAP SPEED TAP LATIN/TANGO TAP 8] REPEATING ROUTINES Competitors may not repeat a dance in any section. 9] REFUNDS Entry fees are non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances at the sole discretion of NZDA. Where a competitor withdraws due to exceptional circumstances prior to the closing entry date, the entry fee will be refunded excluding the administration fee. After the closing date, a 50% refund of the entry fee (excluding the administration fee) will be provided. A refund will not be provided in respect of a competitor choosing not to compete for any reason, including but not limited to a decision made not to compete due to Covid 19 circumstances (directly or indirectly). This includes whether or not the competitor has tested positive for Covid and/or is just a household contact. Should NZDA be unable to proceed due to restrictions under our current planned dates then the event will be postponed to our backup dates and your entry will automatically be transferred across to the new dates and confirmed. (See 16] Postponement dates) 10] BACKSTAGE AND PROMPTING Leaving the Stage If the Competitor has been marked by the adjudicators then they shall keep the marks given. If a report sheet has been marked partially then it is the duty of the Adjudicator to finish marking on what they have seen Prompting Strictly NO PROMPTING, excluding Tiny Stars. Backstage • Persons, including parents, are not permitted back stage unless placing props. Please note: Teachers will be allowed backstage (excluding NZ’s Top Dancer!) However, you must not prompt. • Competitors must be back stage no more than 2 items before their act. It is the competitor’s responsibility to be ready to dance as we do not have a marshal. • Competitors, Parents and Teachers while backstage for official reasons are under the control of the Stage Manager. In the instance that the Stage Manager is not there then this will fall to the Announcer. Please respect the request of the Stage Manager and/or the Announcer. 11] AWARDS • Dancers must be present at Results Presentations to receive their Awards • Awards will not be given out to those who have missed the presentation • All competitors receive an award. • Prize monies awarded are subject to sponsorship and donations. NZDA reserves the right to alter or amend any prize monies awarded in any class. 12] QUALIFYING FOR FINALS • Dancers must receive a score of 80% or higher in at least one routine in a given discipline to be eligible to enter finals. • Dancers wishing to enter scholarships at Finals must receive a score of 80% or higher in at lest 2 routines in a given discipline. • In order to enter the Musical Theatre Award at Finals a performer must compete and qualify in a song and dance in a musical theatre style receiving a mark of 80% or higher. • All competitors wishing to enter finals in 2022 must have qualified at one of our regionals.
13] NZ’s TOP DANCER AT FINALS • All dancers in this event will perform a solo dance of any style (Tap Solo, Speed Tap, Jazz Solo, Hip Hop, Contemporary etc) • This must NOT be a repeat dance. • Competitors have a maximum of 2 minutes for the qualification process • Dancers must have scored of 85% or higher at regionals to enter FINALS • Age Groups Petite (7-8), Junior (9-11), Intermediate (12-14) and Senior (15+) • Dancers must be competing in at least two solo routines to enter NZ Top Dancer! 14] GROUPS • Only a Teacher or nominated person can enter groups. These will be entered via the online entry system. • Registration payments for dancers competing in groups only can be paid on Confirmation of groups after entries have closed. 15] SCHOILARSHIPS [NEW} Scholarships will be competed for in their own scholarship classes. Any additional routines you have can be competed for in the standard classes but no routine can be performed twice. i.e. if you have two lyricals you can only compete in one of them unless you use it for NZ's Top Dancer! • Scholarships are awarded in Jazz, Tap, and Musical Theatre disciplines over a number of sub categories which are outlined on the scholarships page. • Scholarships are awarded over Petite, Junior, Intermediate and Senior age groups • Scholarship winners are expected to write a letter of thanks and how they expect to use their prize before they leave the competition. An Area and writing facilities will be provided for this. [for sponsorship purposes] • Scholarship cash awards must be used for a dance related activity and a report shall be written by the recipient to the NZ Dance Awards to confirm its dance related use and so it may be used for Sponsorship feedback. • All Scholarship winners are required to be photographed after the awards presentation for promotional and sponsorship purposes. 16] POSTPONEMENT DATES In the event of a postponement all Entries will be transferred across to the new dates. Postponement dates if needed are 12 - 16 October 2022 PHOTOS TAKEN BY NZDA OR OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHERS DURING THE EVENT MAY BE USED FOR PROMOTIONAL PURPOSES FOR THE NEW ZEALAND DANCE AWARDS

NZDA FINALS GROUPS WINNERS – KENNEDY CUP This will be awarded to the studio with the team that accrues the highest marks from all adjudicators at the Finals. Each Studio will have their highest scoring team nominated to compete plus any wildcards the judges put forward. 1st PLACE: $1500 2nd PLACE: $1000 3rd PLACE: $500 ELITE STUDIO AWARD ENTRY FEE $39.00 – this fee will enter the STUDIO in the Elite Studio Award comprising of a nominated soloist, duo and team. No single person may be in more than any one item. ALL REGISTRATION FEES must be paid. 1st PLACE: $200.00

Musical Theatre The 2022 Musical Theatre Experience see’s you bringing your Song And Dance in a Musical Theatre Style that will be workshoped as a group and coached by a team of creatives including a Vocal Coach, Choreographer and an Acting Coach. You will present a portion of your song within a group medley created by NZDA at the FINALS GALA.
NEW ZEALAND’S will you be one of NZ’s next top dancers? Our overall champions will be found through an elimination process from dancers entered into the NZ’s Top Dancer categories. The top 3 - 5 of each division will dance off at the Final Awards session to become NZ’s Top Dancer! Dancers must have qualified through the NZDA 2022 REGIONALS in order to be eligible to enter the NZ Top dancer FINALS. Each winner will receive an AUD$300 credit off the Showcase Dance Championships FINALS on the Gold Coast, January 2023 PLUS entry into the 2022 Kairos Dance Convention. Petite, 7 – 8 Years Junior, 9 – 11 Years Intermediate, 12 – 14 Years Senior, 15 Years + NEW ZEALAND’S group will you be NZ’s next top group? $1500 CASH PRIZE Highest Scoring Group at FINALS GALA $1000 CASH PRIZE Second Highest Scoring Group at FINALS GALA $500 CASH PRIZE Third Highest Scoring Group at FINALS GALA NZ’s Top Group hopefuls will compete across their respective group sections over the group sessions. Each studios highest scoring act along with any selected wildcards will go through to the FINALS GALA with a chance to become NZ’s TOP GROUP 2022. The selected groups when they return during the FINALS GALA will dance off against each other to find top honours and be judged by at least five judges with all scores averaged!
