19 January 2021 Good afternoon, families. The Tigers had an interesting role play bike race today. They were the firemen to rescue some animals from a farm affected by bush fire. They made the fire engine noises and rode the bikes around the bike track. It was so good for them to connect common knowledge to the play here. Some children with the encouragement of Miss Beibei tried to climb over the obstacle course. They did well and were very careful not to get themselves hurt. We will start to help the children to build the muscles of their arms and they will develop gross motor skills. Some children were doing some creative drawing at the table. -Beibei LO 3.2 – Children take increasing responsibility for their own health & physical well-being
This morning at group time I spoke to the children about Australia Day. I was asked “What is Australia Day?” I then explained a simple version to the children about Australia Day. I printed out a photo of the Australian Flag and asked if anyone knew what it was. I got told it was Australia, then someone said it was the Australian Flag. I explained to the children the different parts of the flag and why they are important. We went through the flag as it is part of our activities today. -Tilly LO 5.5 – Children use information & communication tech- nologies to access information, investigate ideas & repre- sent their thinking
The children chose to play with mobilos, magnets and home corner. Yuvi built an out-space digger and showed Miss Beibei and said he would send it to Mars to do some work. Quite a few children had a big party preparation done in the home corner. Some were cooking; some were setting up the table and they had assigned the tasks before they started playing. Jihoon is always very imaginative to build all sorts of vehicles and he enjoyed building things using different toys. Naomi and Claudia were making hair dryer using the magnets. -Beibei LO 4.1 – Children develop dispositions for learning such as curiosity, cooperation, confidence, creativi- ty, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, imagina- tion & investigation
For the art activity today I printed out a template of a blank Australian Flag with the Union Jack, Commonwealth Star and Southern Cross separate. At the table I called over the children in groups of two to complete the activity. They started by cutting out the three parts to go on the flag. Most of the children had an idea on how to use the scissors but I had to help some as well. Once they got the idea of cutting the all did well but we will be working on this throughout the year. Once everything was cut out the children then got the glue and stuck the three parts of the flag down on the empty flag. I had the photo I printed out up on the wall so they could see where it went. -Tilly LO 4.3 – Children transfer & adapt what they have learned from one context to another
