11-12 February 2020 | Swinburne University VENUE - Swinburne University of Technology The MISE2020 conference will be held at the Swinburne University of Technology on John Street in Hawthorn, Melbourne. Over 100 years ago Swinburne began with a simple premise: to provide technical education to a sector of society otherwise denied further education. For over a century, Swinburne has committed to innovative education, strong industry engagement and social inclusion. Today, the university has over 50,000 students, which is a long way from the 80 people that enrolled in 1909. Swinburne has always placed a strong focus on emerging technologies and equipping students with the ability to adapt to changing environments. Swinburne University’s Hawthorn Campus Located just a 10 minute tram or train ride away from the centre of Melbourne, Swinburne University’s Hawthorn campus is the main campus of Swinburne. It is the hub of Swinburne’s teaching, research and development activities, offering a state-of-the-art learning environment and a desirable student lifestyle. The brand new, state-of-the-art $100 million Advanced Manufacturing and Design Centre (AMDC) at the Hawthorn campus is an exciting development in story of Swinburne and will foster links between design and the engineering, ICT, business and social sciences faculties. Opened at Swinburne’s Hawthorn campus in 2014, the AMDC is a hub for researchers carrying out world-leading research, education and training. About Hawthorn Hawthorn is one of Melbourne’s most attractive inner suburbs. Swinburne is set among the vibrant cafés, restaurants, bars, boutiques and bookshops of Glenferrie Road. You can then amble down Southbank Promenade and try your luck at Crown Casino. Or, if you head in the other direction, you can walk down the banks of the Yarra River and into the Botanical Gardens. Hop on another tram or train and in minutes you can arrive in the vibrant space that is Richmond, full of cafés, pubs, cutting edge dining experiences and the most famous Melbourne landmark, the MCG. Or, simply explore the CBD. Chinatown (with it’s delicious, yet inexpensive eats) is always worth a visit, as is the bustling Queen Victoria Market, the dining hotspot of Flinders Lane, and the shopping mecca: Bourke Street Mall.
