Onboard’s Surefire® cargo hook
release technology is a useful safety
option for external load operators.
An integrated electronic circuit
is added inside the cargo hook,
which requires a purposeful, half-
second press against the hook release
button to open the hook. This guards against
inadvertent releases caused by accidentally
brushing against the button during flight. Pilots
can still use the manual release in an emergency
where the hook must be opened immediately.

Airbus Helicopters factory-installs Onboard’s cargo hook
equipment on many of their new models, including the
H-125 (AS350), H-130, H-135, and the H-145 (EC145-T2). If
you’re looking for an after-market solution for your aircraft,
our certified cargo hook kits include many of the safety
enhancements and user-friendly features that you’re looking
for. For example, our suspension systems include long-life
bushings at each wearing joint to extend the service life.
Built-in travel limits and/or bumper rings minimize damage
to the cargo hook and control cables—reducing the risk of an
inadvertent release.
Onboard’s cargo hook kits are built around our TALON®
brand of keeperless and hydraulic cargo hooks. There are
options to add an Onboard Weighing System for most of our
cargo hook kits, and many of these kits also include options
for our Surefire® release technology. For more information,

Pin Load Cells
Onboard Systems is always looking for ways to improve
our products and services by harnessing new advances in
technologies and processes. We originally launched our
revolutionary pin load cell technology on the Bell 407 Fixed
Beam Suspension System. Since then, it has become the new
standard for Onboard Weighing Systems and is now in use on
a wide variety of cargo hook kits.
Pin load cells are designed to mount on one side of the hook
by replacing the main attach bolt, rather than attaching as a
separate link above the hook. This allows for increased ground

new, operator-requested features using

feedback that changes color as maximum
load is approached. An update to log time,
load weight, and GPS coordinates for pick
up and drop off locations is also planned.

Analog Slave Meter Increases Productivity
Sometimes the intuitive, “at-a-glance” visual feedback of an
analog meter is preferred over a digital readout. Onboard’s
optional Analog Slave Meter provides a highly accurate
secondary display without needle bounce. The large dial and
steady needle offers quick and accurate load reading and is

This specialized remote cargo hook system allows pilots
to pick up and drop off pre-rigged loads from unmanned
locations. The system is made up of two components: an
Auto-Loc cargo hook (which is suspended from the belly of
the helicopter on a longline) and a Target (which is attached to
the load in advance and left unattended). The pilot slings the
hook onto the target to automatically lock the pair together,
then lifts the load for transport. The pilot can release the load
by either setting it down on the ground or releasing it in air.
A ground crew doesn’t need to be present during the loading/
unloading operations.
ww Simple, Low-Weight System— Consists of two
components: the hook and the target. The target weighs
just 15 lb. (6.4 kg) and folds up for easy storage and
transport. Attach the target hardpoint to your load using a
shackle or other rigging, and place the target upright on the
ground for unattended pickup by a helicopter.
ww Increases Safety— Ground crew don’t have to attach
loads to the hook under a hovering helicopter, reducing
hazardous conditions.
