OCTOBER 2020 | 37RAF Mildenhall Heritage THE 200 MISSION MILESTONE & 12 O'Clock High! Stories from RAF Mildenhall's rich heritage by Robert H. Paley, 100 ARW Historian. DID YOU KNOW that The legendary movie “12 O’Clock High!” was partly inspired by the 100th Bomb Group? It’s true! The movie’s co-writer, Lt Col Beirne Lay, Jr. was an Eighth Air Force historian and Film Unit Commander under General Ira Eaker, Commander of the Eighth Air Force, when he decided to fly with the 100th Bomb Group to gain combat experience before taking command himself.
