Say sayonara to summer and hello to the fall and college football season.

CONVERSATION STARTERS

Well this is awkward. Major programs like Oklahoma, Texas, USC and UCLA have
announced they are leaving their conferences, but not for a few years.

Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) has changed the landscape of college sports since being
announced last year. Restaurant chain Hooters signed 51 offensive linemen. Plenty of
players are making money but none like Alabama quarterback Bryce Young who is
   bringing home an estimated $3.2M.

Speaking of getting paid, how 'bout them coaches? The highest paid coaches are:
Nick Saban , Alabama, $10.7 million
      Kirby Smart, Georgia, $10.5 million
      Lincoln Riley, USC, $10 million

You can't talk football without talking about tailgating. Unsurprisingly, the average
tailgater is a male between 25-44 years old who spends over $500 a year on tailgating
food by attending or hosting 6-10 parties a season. But that number may rise this year
as beer prices have gone up 5% and groceries up 13%.

The Saturday morning staple, ESPN 's "College GameDay," has a new addition -
   Peloton instructor Jess Sims.

ON THE FIELD

Look for leading Heisman Trophy candidates Ohio State's quarterback C.J. Stroud and
Alabama's quarterback Bryce Young to lead their team on the field.
Former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley made a hasty exit from Oklahoma
last year and is now living the California life as the head coach of USC Football.
The Georgia Bulldogs are the reigning champions.
The BIG10 (Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska) have a new, huge TV deal with CBS, FOX
   and NBC
Could there be trouble in Texas and Clemson? Will this be the year we hear something
from them after a quiet season last year.

College Football Top 10 Poll (as of 8/26)
 1. Alabama 6. Michigan
 2. Ohio State 7. Texas A&M
 3. Georgia 8. Utah
 4. Clemson 9. Oklahoma
 5. Notre Dame 10. Baylor

TRIVIA

There are only a handful of universities that has a mascot not ending in 'S.' Can you
   name them?
Alabama Crimson Tide North Texas Mean Green
      Illinois Fighting Illini Stanford Cardinal
      Navy Midshipmen Syracuse Orange
Nevada Wolf Pack Tulane Green Wave
North Carolina Wolf Pack Tulsa Golden Hurricane
      Notre Dame Fighting Irish

In 1920, the University of Texas football players had their mascot (a longhorn cow) at
the annual sports banquet under less than ideal circumstances. What were those
   circumstances?
A: He was dinner. The university couldn’t afford the upkeep of Bevo so they
fattened him up and slaughtered him before the banquet.

College GameDay mainstay Lee Corso played football in college at Florida State.
Who was his football playing roommate who became a famous actor?
A: Burt Reynolds. The two played together at Florida State in the 1950s and
Corso is said to have been a catalyst in Reynolds’ acting career. Maybe his football
experience is what drew him to the role in the 1974 version of “The Longest
       Yard.”
