                                      Home Learning Week One 22-2-21
 Here is our weekly overview. It includes a range of activities, tasks and resources to support your learning at home. Remember you can send
                                              your updates and photographs to my teacher email:

    Documents to support your learning at home can be located on your Microsoft Teams account using your Teams login and password.
Phonics: Use Espresso https://central.espresso.co.uk - English - Phonics - Sal’s Phonics Phase 5: Alternative Spellings -
Different ways to spell ’u’ (u & o) Watch the video then complete the sorting and spelling activities.
Reading: Comprehension & Research all about the Arctic and Polar Bears.
Comprehension - Read the text ‘Polar Animals’ and answer the questions by referring back to the text to find the
answers/clues. Remember to underline the question words, the key words and the instruction words e.g. Tick One/Draw
lines to match/Number the statements in the correct order etc. (Text & Questions attached to Teams)
Research - Use a range of resources to read & find out key information about the Arctic and Polar Bears and record
your findings in note form on the Research Sheet (attached to Teams). This will be your plan for the writing activity
this week. Resources for research include: Arctic PowerPoint, Polar Bear Fact File PowerPoint (attached to Teams),
myON books ‘Who grows up in the snow?’ A book about polar animals and their offspring, ‘Do polar bears snooze in
hollow trees?’ A book about animal hibernation plus any other resources of your choice.
Writing: Write a paragraph about each of the above which you have researched (The Arctic and Polar Bears) in your
blue lined English book (provided in your new pack). Remember to give each paragraph a sub-heading and write infor-
mation sentences including technical words. You could add a picture after each paragraph! Plus you could finish with
a ‘Did you know … ?’ question.
Spellings: Practise Week 1 spellings for your group, x10, x8 or x6 (included in your paper work pack) by writing them in
your home spelling book 3 times.
Then at the end of the week take a mini spelling quiz with an adult. The focus this week is the sound ‘u’ spelt ‘o’ e.g.
Monday, other, honey, wonder etc.
Handwriting: Follow the Nelson Handwriting Units (15 - 19) that are copied in your new homework folder (1 Unit = 1
focus and 1 extension activity per week). Practise your handwriting in your little purple handwriting book which is also
provided in your pack. Unit 15 is the focus for this week which is to practise ‘printing’ the x26 letters of the alphabet
then copying the given words linked to parts of the body e.g. hair, knee, wrist, shoulder ...
SPAG: Use the Y2 Skill Builders text book and complete work in blue SPAG exercise book which are both provided in your
pack. Unit 9 Types of sentences is the focus this week.
Dragonflies & Butterflies: Complete all x4 activities
Ladybirds & Bees: Complete activities 1, 2 & 3
Caterpillars: Complete activities 1 & 3
Topic: Paddington has made another new bear friend called ’Bjorn’ from northern Norway in the Artic. With your
help, can you tell Paddington what it is like to live in Norway. Do you already know anything about Norway?
Use BBC Bitesize: KS1 Geography, A Visit to Norway Part 1 - watch the video of Barnaby Bear’s visit to Norway (5
mins)
Complete the first half of the attached worksheet - everything other than physical features, human features & wild-
life.
Use BBC Bitesize: KS1 Geography, A Visit to Norway Part 2 - watch the next part of Barnaby Bear’s visit to Norway(4
mins)
Then complete the second half of the attached worksheet - draw & label physical features, human features & wildlife.

Maths: Focus - Doubling & Halving and Fractions
      Revise doubles & corresponding halves up to 15.
      Revise & recognise 1/2s, 1/4s, 1/3s and 2/3s of shapes.
      Count in 1/2s and 1/4s.
      Place 1/2s on a number line.
Use BBC Bitesize: ‘Learning at Home’, Make Doubles, follow the learning summary and complete the x2 activities.
For Doubling & Halving complete p.35 in your Abacus maths workbook
Use BBC Bitesize: ‘Learning at Home’, Introduction to Fractions, follow the learning summary, watch the x2 videos and
complete the x3 interactive activities.
For Fractions complete p.36, 37, 38 & 39 in your Abacus maths workbook
Consolidate with the game ‘Nimble Gnome’ in Bronze, Silver & Gold levels on Active Learn Primary.
For children in the ‘Diamonds’ maths group there are two Mastery Checkpoints this week.
Science: Our new topic for this term is ‘Living Things & their Habitats’.
Go onto Teams and watch the ’World Habitats’ PowerPoint attached. Use the back of your new English books, labelled
Science, to complete the Arctic Dependency activity. You can either cut & stick/write the labels onto the worksheet or
draw & label the living things straight into your books and describe how they depend on each other.
Blubber Glove Experiment: Follow the instructions to explore how ‘lard’ acts as blubber to keep animals such as polar
bears warm and how it also helps them to float. The instruction sheet plus a sheet to record your findings will be on
Teams.
Spanish: Use www.lingotot.co.uk/Oakdene.html to complete Year 2 Week 5/6 session, ‘In the Garden’. Watch the video
(20mins) then play a pairs game from ‘Growing Things in the Vegetable Garden’.
Computing: Use www.bbc.co.uk to access KS1 Bitesize Computing. Focus on ‘Digital literacy’, Watch ‘What is the
internet?’ 1 minute clip then discuss the different things that can connect to the internet e.g. watches, books,
cameras. Look at ‘How can you use the internet?’ & click on the x6 different images to find out some of the
main uses of the internet.
‘Fairtrade Fortnight’ w/c: 22nd February 2021 - Focus product for Y2 is Coffee from Costa Rica
An assembly will be attached to Teams then children can complete some research about this product & country and pre-
sent it in any way they choose e.g. map work, art work, recording on an ipad, poster, fact file etc.

PE: Complete the daily physical activities at home for Week 1 of Move It Monday, Try it Tuesday, Wellness Wednesday,
Throwback Thursday and Fit & Funky Friday. In addition to this there is Week 1 PowerPoint from the Stockton Schools
Sports Partnership. Both resources will be in your Teams account.

for children, young people and parents/carers.
