November 2021 FALL FESTIVAL OF Writers Saturday, November 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Main Library ▪ Parking Lot Meet and support local authors at the Fall Fesࢼval of Writers! Books from Vigo County writers will be available for purchase, with subjects ranging from local history and children’s books to humor and suspense. Children can experiment with wri ng and learn how to bind their own book to take home, while you can bring your own wri en work to share at the writers’ roundtable at 10:00 a.m. Hot chocolate and apple cider will be freely available to all a endees.
KIDS & TEENS Monday, November 1 at 5:30 p.m. Main Library ▪ Mee ng Rooms A, B & C Register at www.vigo.lib.in.us/events Ages 12-19: Compete in teams of four to build an obstacle course which will stump your opponents and test your own skills when you navigate your opponents’ obstacle courses by coding your own robot. Space is limited; please register individually. Tiny Tot Time Every Monday, November 1 to November 15 at 10:00 a.m. Main Library ▪ Mee ng Rooms A, B & C Ages 0-2: Introduce your infant or toddler to new books, experiences, and skills while you strengthen your bond with them at Tiny Tot Time! In this group se ng, your child will interact with children their age, learn to listen to others as a librarian reads to them, and strengthen their hands through fingerplays, shakers, and scarves. You will also discover ps to con nue building these skills at home. A er story me, you and your child can spend an addi onal half hour socializing with other parents and their children! Wiggle Worms Every Thursday, November 4 to November 18 at 10:00 a.m. Main Library ▪ Mee ng Rooms A, B & C Ages 2-5: Start your toddler or preschooler on the path to a successful year in Kindergarten with Wiggle Worms. At Wiggle Worms, your child will build early learning skills though listening, reading, and discussing stories, prac cing the alphabet, and expanding their vocabulary. They will also develop fine motor skills by performing fingerplays and body movement-based ac vi es while learning how to cooperate with others in a group se ng. Each story me ends with a half hour session of free-play for you and your child to socialize with others.

With the supplies in this kit, you can create your own string art decor, woven bracelets, and scratch art postcards. Board Game Night @ West Monday, November 8 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. West Branch Library All Ages: Challenge your friends and family to the ul mate bonding experience at Board Game Night! A wide selec on of new and classic board games will be available for all ages, including Kodama: The Tree Spirits, Santorini, Boggle, Wingspan and The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel. Books & Brews: The Twisted Ones Wednesday, November 3 at 6:30 p.m. Terre Haute Brewing Company 401 South 9th Street Ages 21 & Up: Grab your favorite beverage at the bar and se le in for a discussion of T. Kingfisher’s otherworldly horror The Twisted Ones. In The Twisted Ones, Mouse agrees to clean out the remote house of her recently-deceased grandmother, a cruel woman and hoarder whose home is packed with useless junk. While Mouse expects cleaning to take some me, she doesn’t expect to find her step-grandfather’s diary or to discover the terrifying truth to his ramblings.
ADULTS The Force Is Strong with Star Wars Trivia Tuesday, November 9 at 6:00 p.m. Register at www.vigo.lib.in.us/events to receive a Zoom link. Are you a Jedi Master? Challenge others in your quest for bragging rights as the ul mate Star Wars fan! Answer trivia ques ons, match characters to their quotes, and iden fy characters from pixelated images. To play along, you will need two devices—one to view the Zoom mee ng and one to answer trivia ques ons at kahoot.it. Discuss the many challenges people face in your community and discover local organiza ons addressing these issues. This month, the State Health Insurance Assistance Programs (SHIP) will share updates. A Family Development Specialist from Western Indiana Community Ac on Agency (WICAA) will address the services offered to assist your family, including: budge ng, educa on, employment, health care, addic on, and housing. At the end of the sessions, Judy Gainey from SHIP and WICAA’s Family Development Specialist will be available to answer your ques ons in two break-out sessions.
