GREETING & ANNOUNCEMENTS CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 39 INVOCATION Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken (Hymn #345) Glorious things of thee are spoken, Round each habitation, hov’ring, Zion, city of our God; See the cloud and fire appear He whose word cannot be broken For a glory and a cov’ring, Formed thee for His own abode: Showing that the Lord is near: On the Rock of Ages founded, Thus deriving from their banner What can shake thy sure repose? Light by night and shade by day, With salvation’s walls, surrounded, Safe they feed upon the manna Thou may’st smile at all thy foes. Which he gives them when they pray. See, the streams of living waters, Springing from eternal love, Savior, if of Zion’s city Well supply thy sons and daughters, I, through grace, a member am, And all fear of want remove: Let the world deride or pity, Who can faint, while such a river I will glory in thy name: Ever flows their thirst t’assuage? Fading is the worldling’s pleasure, Grace, which, like the Lord, the giver, All his boasted pomp and show; Never fails from age to age. Solid joys and lasting treasure None by Zion’s children know. John Newton, 1779 CONFESSION OF FAITH Westminster Shorter Catechism Q. 91. How do the sacraments become effectual means of salvation? A. The sacraments become effectual means of salvation, not from any virtue in them, or in him that does administer them; but only by the blessing of Christ, and the working of his Spirit in them that by faith receive them. Q. 92. What is a sacrament? A. A sacrament is a holy ordinance instituted by Christ; wherein, by sensible signs, Christ, and the benefits of the new covenant, are represented, sealed, and applied to believers.
Q. 94. What is baptism? A. Baptism is a sacrament, wherein the washing with water in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, does signify and seal our ingrafting into Christ, and partaking of the benefits of the covenant of grace, and our engagement to be the Lord’s. Q. 95. To whom is baptism to be administered? A. Baptism is not to be administered to any that are out of the visible church, till they profess their faith in Christ, and obedience to him; but the infants of such as are members of the visible church are to be baptized.
