CONFERENCE LEADERSHIP WELCOME LETTER ARLENE DIBENIGNO FOUNDER & CEO Dear Friends, Welcome to the fifth annual – and first-ever virtual – Women’s Conference of Florida! Considering the many challenges we’ve all faced throughout this past year, I’m so glad you’re able to be here with us. If 2020 has shown us anything, it’s the true resiliency of women. Throughout the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, women have been on the front lines – caring not only for our families, but our communities. This has involved an even higher level than normal of self-sacrifice when it comes to shouldering everyday responsibilities, like childcare, schooling, work, and so much more, amidst the most uncertain of times. In fact, the social and economic impacts of the pandemic have disproportionately affected women, particularly as it relates to things like gender inequality in the workplace and unemployment. Women have faced an increase in sexual violence and domestic abuse, problems exacerbated by social isolation. For women who have been pregnant during this time, many have had to attend appointments on their own and sometimes even experience childbirth or related complications alone. And, Women of color have had to maintain their balance on a tightrope of racial injustice. But through it all, women have, nevertheless, persisted. In fact, a record number of women are expected to serve in U.S. Congress in 2021, demonstrating our unyielding commitment toward the betterment of our communities. This doesn’t mean it’s been easy, or pretty, but it’s what we – as women – are uniquely qualified to do. To be resilient. The goal of the Women’s Conference of Florida – to advance causes that directly support women so we can break down barriers to success and make an impact for all women – is, perhaps, more important now than ever. As we reflect on the past year and look ahead to the future, it is imperative that we courageously and confidently continue – one foot in front of the next – in the direction of our dreams. I hope this year’s conference offers you the opportunity to reset, refocus, and restart while surrounded (virtually!) by the support of the amazing community we’ve worked tirelessly to build over the past five years. Thank you for being a valuable part of that community as we move forward, together, in charting an upward course for all women here in Florida – and everywhere. Warmly, Arlene DiBenigno Founder & CEO Women’s Conference of Florida 2
