Mythology, music, history, philosophy, painting, drama, sculpture and architecture are studied and compared in relation to their background, medium, organization and style. Emphasis is placed upon the awareness of cultural heritage, values and perspectives as revealed in the arts. Comparisons to relevant Asian, African and American cultures and art may also explored. Film appreciation, dealing with the ability of popular movies to crystallize society's myths, fantasies, and realities, is presented within a historical, social context. Movie heroes and heroines and their relationship to culture may be studied by viewing representative feature films. Math 270 develops the techniques and theory needed to solve and classify systems of linear equations. Solution techniques include row operations, Gaussian elimination, and matrix algebra. Investigates the properties of vectors in two and three dimensions, leading to the notion of an abstract vector space. Vector space and matrix theory are presented including topics such as inner products, norms, orthogonality, eigenvalues, eigenspaces, linear transformations, and diagonalization. The students are provided a wider basis for both evaluation and enjoyment of the theatrical experience. Students examine all elements of live theatre, its cultural and historical background, the contributions of various theatre artists, and its overall purpose and influence within our society.
