Tuesday13 April 2021, 0145 Real News. Scrolla.Africa Will Zuma ignore Chief Justice Mogoeng too? Lungani Zungu The nation is waiting to see if Jacob Zuma will respond to Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng’s letter, asking him what he deemed a fitting sentence for defying a ConCourt order before the Wednesday deadline. On Friday, Mogoeng asked Zuma to file an affidavit, explaining what he thought would be an appropriate sentence if he is found guilty of contempt. Zuma defied an order from the highest court, telling him to appear before the State Capture Commission of Inquiry chaired by Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.
The commission returned to the court, and recommended that Zuma should be sentenced to two years imprisonment. The commission accused Zuma of not being exemplary as a former president of the country. The defiant Zuma was unshaken, daring the court to arrest him, saying he was not scared of jail. By late Monday there was no indication that Zuma had filed his affidavit. The ConCourt has yet to make a ruling on the state capture commission versus Zuma matter. Political analyst Professor Omphemetse Sibanda said Mogoeng was strategic by asking Zuma to explain what he thought was an appropriate sanction if found guilty. Zuma has been trading blows with Zondo and the judiciary, saying they were out to get him. Zuma’s lawyer Eric Mabuza could not be reached for comment.
Family lives in fear of alleged rapist and fugitive Elmon Tshikhudo He allegedly raped the girl and threatened to send her far from home if she told anyone. When her family finally found out, he told them not to report the case to the police or he would wipe them out. But the mother of the 11-year-old victim from Vuwani in Makhado alerted the police and a case was opened. The suspect has now disappeared and the family fears he will return. According to Awelani Makongoa from Go Getters Youth Against Crime, who spoke on behalf of the family, the rape incidents happened on different occasions. He said the girl’s ordeal started in February this year when the suspect, who is a neighbour to the family, sent her to a nearby spaza shop to buy a soup pack whereupon on her return she was threatened with a knife and allegedly raped.
“She was told to keep quiet or be taken to Cape Town where she would not be able to see her family again if she told anybody about what happened,” Makongoa said. It was during the second incident where she was again sent to the spaza shop and raped again that the mother realised there was something wrong with her. The girl had some bruises in her private parts and after being sent to the doctor she confided with the mother and doctor that she had been raped. He said the family is under stress and is living in fear. “They are now living in fear but we are also keeping vigilance as a community and we hope that he will be arrested before he does any harm to the family because he has put them and their daughter through a lot already,” Makongoza said. Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed the incident and called upon the community to locate a certain Belamine or Eshrom who they believed could help them in solving the case.
“The police are calling on someone called Belamine or Eshrom to avail himself to the nearest police station as it is believed he might be able to assist in ongoing investigations. And anyone with information is requested to contact the Investigating officer Sgt Mashudu Lusunzi on 079 891 1199 or the Crime stop line 0860010111,” he said. Built in 1978, the school which produced high profile personalities and professionals in the likes of the University of Johannesburg principal Professor Tshilidzi Marwala and former Musina municipal manager Abraham Luruli, has over the years crumbled in terms of results and infrastructure.
It is now a shadow of its former self. The school has deteriorated to such an extent that walls are now cracked and the paint is peeling off. Touched by the deteriorating state of their school, former learners who included Prof Tshilidzi Marwala at the weekend met and decided to do something to return their school to its former glory. The Dimani Alumni Association committee was elected during the meeting. Alumni Association spokesperson Abraham Luruli said: “We studied here and things have changed for the worse. This was one of the best schools producing best results but that is now history. “The infrastructure has also deteriorated, we would like to see the school redeem its former glory and be counted among the best in the country,” he said. He said that their assistance to the school will be by arranging bursaries for deserving learners, infrastructure development of the school and extra lessons for learners.
“We have so far helped three learners with bursaries and developed the school website," he said. Marwala, who is now University of Johannesburg principal, pledged his full support to the project. Dimani school principal Calvin Tshivhase hailed the initiative saying it was long overdue. "We have so many challenges at the school and we hope their intervention will go a long way in taking us back as an agricultural high school," he said. Picture source: @MTSport10 Ramaphosa scores with ANC leadership in KwaZulu-Natal Lungani Zungu President Cyril Ramaphosa appears to have won the hearts and political loyalties of the ANC leadership in KwaZulu-Natal. Both premier Sihle Zikalala and provincial secretary Mdumiseni Ntuli are now enforcing the ANC rule that leaders charged by the police should step aside immediately. This is a critical turning point for Ramaphosa who will need the backing of the province to secure a second term as leader of the ANC. After the 10 years that Jacob Zuma and his allies had a tight grip on power in the province, the ANC in KZN took a hard line and told party leaders who are facing charges to step aside voluntarily.
Former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede, now a backbencher in the provincial legislature, and deputy ANC provincial chairperson Mike Mabuyakhulu, are among the leaders who would get the chop. Nationally, the step-aside rule might see Ace Magashule relinquishing his powerful position as secretary- general. The 30-day deadline given to ANC leaders serving in government or in the party to step aside expires in two weeks. KZN party spokesperson Nhlakanipho Ntombela said no one is above the party. “The NEC is the highest decision-making body, and we respect its wisdom. If people put their own interests ahead of the party, this would cripple our organisation.” Gumede faces charges relating to the R400 million Durban Solid Waste tender. Mabuyakhulu is facing charges relating to the failed jazz festival five years ago. Magashule is out on R200,000 bail over the dodgy asbestos tender in the Free State when he was Premier of the province.
ANC NEC member Nomvula Mokonyane said: “All those who are affected by the step-aside resolution must respect the processes of the ANC and step aside until they are cleared.” Picture source: Supplied Angry Phindile Gwala attacks woman and smashes her phone Dylan Bettencourt Actress Phindile Gwala has been accused of attacking a woman she believed was taking pictures and videos of her. The woman in question, Nompilo Mkhize posted the story on her Facebook page: “Last night I went to Cubana in Pietermaritzburg, walked out when they were about to close and I was doing the whole night I started taking videos outside while I was waiting for a friend, I was about to stop the video and request a ride home when Phindile Gwala walked out, she came at me with her friend shouting ‘nangu omunye’ assuming I was taking pictures and videos of her.”
Mkhize went on to say the 35-year-old actress grabbed her phone and went on to look through her gallery and before she knew it, Gwala allegedly smashed her phone into the ground leaving her without her schoolwork and important documents that she used to apply for jobs. To add insult to injury, Gwala allegedly scratched Mkhize in the face before she got in a car and drove off. Twitter was up in arms about the situation and the popular page, @AdvoBarryRoux tweeted: “Who told Phindile Gwala that she’s a celebrity? She can’t even act. Bengizomgwaza anye mina. Where I come from celebrities are normal people like us. They do kaak, we moer them. #PhindileGwala. Phindile didn't answer her phone when Scrolla.Africa called her and didn't respond to our texts. ...Spat over tracksuit leaves Royal AM without a coach Linda Ximba Floyd Mogale has left Royal AM under mysterious circumstances. Mogale admits he wasn’t wearing the tracksuits but said he didn’t like the way the CEO handled the issue. “I don’t take kindly to being shouted at,” said Mogale. GladAfrica team, Royal AM is owned by prominent businesswoman and socialite Shawn Mkhize. His last game in charge was on Saturday when they played a 1-1 draw against Free State Stars in Bethlehem. Mogale, who previously worked at Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits development structures, told Scrolla.Africa he fought with Royal CEO Sinky Mnisi before the match for not wearing the team’s tracksuits.
Asked for comment, Mnisi would only say that as far as he knows the coach has been suspended. In terms of the log standings, Royal are placed fifth on the log with 33 points, five points adrift of log leaders Richards Bay. Shawn Mkhize’s team has a chance to gain promotion to the “land of money and honey” via play-offs spot but they will need to get a capable coach to guide them through. Picture source: @RoyalAM Akon lands agreement to build a second city Arthur Greene It is to be called Akon City, Uganda, and it looks like something a creative director would dream up for a sci-fi movie. Senegalese-American RnB megastar, Akon, has agreed a deal with the Ugandan government to build such a city, to be completed by 2036.
Akon City, Uganda, is the second city the singer-turned-mogul has agreed to build on the African continent after he agreed plans for a city - also called Akon City - with the Senegalese government in 2018. Akon, whose real name is Aliaune Thiam, announced last year that he was pressing ahead with plans to construct the city in Senegal, and that he had laid the first stone for the city in Mbodiène, a coastal village 62 miles from the capital, Dakar. Like its sister city, Akon City, Uganda will operate on Akoin cryptocurrency. However, Akon, real name Aliaune Thiam, can’t say how the city will be financed, though Akon City, Senegal reportedly cost $6 billion (R88 billion). In an interview about how the Ugandan city would be financed, Akon said: “This is irrelevant. Money is everywhere, I have the potential to pool resources." The Ugandan government has allocated one square mile of land on which to build. The city is likely to follow the blueprint laid in Senegal which includes a hospital campus, its own school, and a
police department, bas well as parks and other recreational facilities. When asked whether the average Ugandan will be able to afford these amenities Akon said the development of crypto- currency will bring the country much-needed opportunities and allow Ugandans to invest in themselves. “I know if I put it there, they’re going to find a way to afford it because it’s going to motivate them,” Akon said. Picture source: @Akon Just two precious points and Pirates are in! Menzi Magubane Orlando Pirates are just one win away from progressing to the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.
On Sunday the Buccaneers cruised past Al Ahli Benghazi of Libya with an impressive 3-0 win at Orlando Stadium to top Group A with eight points after four matches. Their next match will be at the same venue against bottom of the group ES Setif. Pirates and Setif played to a goalless draw in March. On Sunday Group A was cracked wide open by Setif's 3-0 win over second place Enyimba of Nigeria. The win saw the Algerians draw level with Al Ahli both with four points while the Nigerians have six points. Bucs goal scorer Tshegofatso Mabaso said they were a bit disappointed last week when they drew with Al Ahli in Libya. “But I'm happy we managed to rectify that with a win here at home," said Mabaso. "To play for Pirates is a huge honour for me. Whenever I'm given an opportunity to play I always make sure that I play for the badge and also try to help the team to be great again. Being on the score sheet is even bigger."
This win will certainly boost Pirates ahead of their Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash against wounded Mamelodi Sundowns this Thursday. The much anticipated encounter will be held at Loftus Stadium, Tshwane at 6pm. The winner will host Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in the second semi-final on Sunday. Picture source: @TshegofatsoMabaso Tough ask for Bayern in Paris Menzi Magubane Can Bayern Munich bounce back and progress to the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League? The answer to this question will be revealed on Tuesday at Parc des Princes in Paris at 9pm.
Reigning UEFA champions, Bayern Munich visit the French capital to face Paris Saint-Germain in the return leg of the competition's quarter-finals. The German champions will be hoping to overturn the 3-2 scoreline from the first leg. Bayern need to beat PSG 2-0 to go through to the semi-finals - but PSG are no pushovers. Bayern captain Manuel Neuer said they need to stay calm but have fire in their hearts. “We want to approach the game the right way with motivation and good attitude,” he said. He said they needed stability against such quick players, Neuer told Bundesliga.com. "We’ll also need to keep playing our attacking football and put them under pressure. They have problems at the back." There are reports that coach Hansi Flick is being scouted by German Football Association as their next national team mentor.
Current coach Joachim Low is set to leave this post after 15 years in charge. "I think Hansi Flick is the right coach for us,” said Neuer. “You have seen how successful we have been. We will be happy if it continues like this.” Meanwhile in London, Chelsea are set to complete the job when they welcome FC Porto at Stamford Bridge at 9pm. Last week the Blues came back with a 2-0 win in Portugal. Picture source: @iMiaSanMia
