BIOGRAPHY NEWS LETTER 2019 Flying High GP Capt. W.P.A.H. Perera. MSc(Def & Strat Stu), BSc(Def Stu), psc Group Captain Amal Perera joined Kotelawala Defence University in October 1995 and completed his degree in Management and Technical Science. On successful completion of the initial training, he further underwent basic and intermediate flying training at No1 FTW SLAF Anuradhapura. After completion of advanced flying training in Y12 aircraft, he was attached to No 08 Light Transport Squadron as an operational pilot in 1999. He has actively participated in all air operations conducted by Government of Sri Lanka against LTTE since 1999 and logged more than 6500 flying hours as a transport pilot. He is a VVIP captain and qualified in Y12, Beechcraft-200, MA60, Antonov 32, C130 Hercules and Cessna 421 Golden Eagle as captain. During the humanitarian operation he logged more than 1300 flying hours in Beechcraft-200 as a reconnaissance pilot which contributed immensely for effective real time intelligence gathering. Apart from military aviation he has done several commercial flights in MA60 aircraft with Helitours. Further he has carried out overseas flights to Maldives, India, Pakistan, Ukraine, UAE, Iran, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Russia, Checz Republic, Seychelles, Kenya, Uganda, Central Africa, South Sudan and Saudi Arabia in AN32, C130 aircrafts. Presently he maintains his flying currency on MA60, AN32 and C130 Hercules aircraft. Group Captain Amal Perera was serving at No 2 Heavy Transport Squadron in the capacity of Officer Command Operations before taking up the appointment at Ministry of Defence as Assistant Military Liaison Officer. He has completed his Junior Command Course at Sri Lanka Air Force Academy China bay in 2003. He was sent to Joint Air War Collage Secunderabad India to follow Air Warfare Course in 2004. Since he has the Air Line Transport Pilot License (ATPL) he got the opportunity to go to China for MA60 ground school and flying training. Group Captain Amal Perera is one of the six pilots trained in China when Sri Lanka Air Force acquired MA60 to its inventory for Commercial operations. In 2014 he participated the C130 operators' conference in Malaysia conducted by US Air Force Pacific command. In 2015 he graduated from Defence Services Command and Staff College Sapugaskanda and secured psc and Masters in Defence and Strategic Studies. After successful completion of Staff Course at Defence Services Command and Staff College Sapugaskanda he has been identified as a potential staff officer by SLAF and given the responsibility of holding Assistant Military Liaison Officer at Ministry of Defence. Group Captain Amal Perera is hailing from Gampaha and received his education at Maris Stella College Negombo. He excelled in Basketball at college and captained the college team in 1993. For the achievements in basketball he was awarded with college colors for twice. He represented Sri Lanka Schools team in the same year and awarded with Sri Lanka Schools colors. Due to his dedication, performance and unblemished character in the Sri Lanka Air Force he got the opportunity to continue his further studies on Strategic Analysis of Counter Terrorism at National Defence University Washington DC, USA which is one of the prestigious defence universities of the world. While studying at National Defence University Group Captain Amal Perera enjoys the American life at Washington with his family at present.

2019 Maris Stella College Old Boys' Association has well established its brand image in Motor Sports in the Western Province by introducing this most sought after TSD Motor Rally nine years back and is continuing without any th th interruption for the 10 year on 13 July 2019. By design it covers almost 100 km running on standard roads covering varied landscapes in Gampaha District testing the patience, prudence, discipline and courage of the driver and the navigator.
