Coastal Management Program – Review Status: • Review of existing CMP and by-law • Public participation workshops held between 28 – 31 Jan 2019 • Advertisement in local newspapers • Participation of the public a bit worrying, but at least everyone had the opportunity to attend and provide input/comments to the CMP review process
ESTUARY MANAGEMENT ADVISORY FORUMS & MCC’s DATES FOR 2019 • Olifants River: • 19 Feb; 14 May; 30 July; 5 Nov • Verlorenvlei: • 20 Feb; 15 May; 31 July; 6 Nov • Bergrivier: • 21 Feb; 16 May; 01 Aug; 7 Nov • MCC: • 27 Feb; 22 May; 14 Aug; 13 Nov
Compliance, Monitoring & Enforcement Compliance and enforcement issues gets addressed and or escalated to DEA, DMR, DPW, DAFF & DEADP via correspondence and tabled at the Provincial Coastal Committee (PCC) and Estuary Advisory Forums. These complaints range from Off Road Vehicles (ORV’s) driving within the Coastal Zone, to illegal structures or activities within the coastal zone, transgressions in terms of the Marine Living Resources Act (MLRA) as well activities related to mining within the Coastal Zone), depending who’s the lead agent who’s mandate and main responsibility it is. WCDM support DWS with Monthly Estuary Water Monitoring on Olifants, Verlorenvlei (all monitoring points dried up) & Bergriver Estuaries (Estuary Water Monitoring Workshop (4 – 6 March in Betties Bay – please provide your names to Carmen van Uys at DEA&DP) All EPWP Coastal/Estuarine teams are in field – contracts expire 30/06/2019 Recent Prospecting & Mining Applications to take note of includes Bongani Minerals within the Moutonshoek Protected Area which could affect Verlorenvlei and MSR/Tormin on the northern bank of the Olifants River Estuary Ebenhaezer and Papendrop Communities has completed and adopted their Land Management Plan, which includes the protected area at the Olifants Estuary – Protected Area Process needs to happen now for the community at the Olifants Estuary
Compliance, Monitoring & Enforcement Proposed subdivision and rezoning on Farm Kliphoek on the Berg River Estuary for resort expansion and related watersport and boating activities (PLS) which Bergriver EAF need to take note Attended a Bergrivier Mun meeting on the 8th of Feb 2019 in relation to the Berg River Estuary By-law and the way forward Ganzekraal Slipway Management Plan was presented at the Executive Mayoral Committee meeting – 13 Feb 2019 at WCDM – A number of issues were raised in terms of safety and poaching. Referred to SWOT Workshop – 28/02/19 – 01/03/19 – CapeNature will participate at the SWOT engagement workshop. Request for OVR signage was escalated to DEA&DP/DEA on the 25th of Jan 2019. DEA needed the info to procure within this financial year and needed the information urgently – Awaiting feedback at the PCC – 13 March IGTT meeting and SEA workshop attended in Vredenburg 21 & 22 Feb 2019 – Exspert advice and input from Dr Mather on the groins and hard structure at Langebaan
Compliance, Monitoring & Enforcement Lamberts bay (Steenboksfontein area) dumping incident reported to DEA: Oceans & Coast (Case Officer - Saliegh Jacobs) but all other relevant Gov Dept’s assistance also needed
Signage erected by Cederberg Mun to educate and inform the public that no dumping is allowed within the area

Compliance, Monitoring & Enforcement Leipoldville (Verlorenvlei) Illegal Dump/Waste Site on private land - incident reported at Verlorenvlei Estuary Advisory Forum in process to be reported to DEADP – Compliance & Pollution Management, possibly Cederberg Mun can assist, as they did in the past with removal of the waste and signage.
