Key issues and questions arising from last week’s webinar • Franchesca Cubillo spoke about her role as Chair of the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair Foundation. Franchesca gave statistics on the success of the 2019 Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair including 70 participating art centres, $2.84million in income for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts sector, 195 editorial coverages, 17,000 visitors and 90% of attendees agreeing that they learnt something new about Indigenous art and culture. Franchesca also spoke of the new online platform for DAAF 2020 which will be hosted on the DAAF website and social channels. Franchesca highlighted they key issue of copyright in the digital space which is a key focus for them. • Sarah Bell spoke of Ilbijerri’s role in APAM and gave an overview of APAM’s principles; First Nations as central, sustainable and equitable, reciprocity, experimentation, artist-centric, Asia-focused. Sarah highlighted that APAM gatherings happen at established festivals across Australia, the next one being at DAAF August 2021. The upcoming APAM gatherings will also include considerable online content. Sarah spoke of the round of online gatherings APAM has been hosting as a response to COVID-19. Expressions of Interest for the APAM gathering at DAAF will open in late 2020. • Nici Cumpston gave an overview of Tarnanthi and it’s guiding principles; letting the artists voice shine, open mind and open heart, challenge perceptions, artistic excellence, grow, share, respect. Nici also spoke to Tarnanthi 2020, and the opportunity to be creative about how they present. Nici spoke of the opportunity Tarnanthi has to work with many other SA organizations, as well as Art Gallery of SA and Tandanya, which offers a fantastic sharing and learning opportunity. She also spoke of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art in the Classroom publication, which has been a huge 6 success. On the Art Gallery of SA website, there is a raft of educational resources available to everyone.

Signature Works- Creating artistic works of scale The Signature Works strategic project is focused on achieving: New creative works by First Nations artists across performing arts, experimental and emerging arts, literature, and visual arts Increased audiences and markets at a regional, national and international level Establishment of new creative brokerage models and hubs that broker artistic opportunities from investment, creative concept and execution to distribution Increased career pathways for artists, artsworkers, producers and presenters Deeper appreciation of the value of First Nations arts and cultural expression Increased collaborations and presentation of excellent new Indigenous artistic works Increased investment in the development and presentation of significant excellent works of scale across all artforms, created by First Nations artists and organisations Strategically implemented rapid growth for the First Nations arts sector over 5 years. 8
