Welcome to RichDance 2019! Saturday 23 March RichDance is Richmond upon Thames’ annual dance festival showcasing a dazzling variety of performances from emerging dance artists and groups, youth companies, choreographers, schools and community groups from across London. Since the first festival in 2002, RichDance has been a platform for new dance and a vibrant celebration of dance in all its forms, bringing together dancers from within the borough and beyond. We have an incredible amount of dance talent all under one roof during RichDance and it is a fantastic opportunity for participants to come together and share their skills, be inspired, and take part in a range of activities throughout the day, the highlight being performing in this afternoon’s show! BD1 Youth Dance Company Piece: ImPROMptu Music: Those magic changes- Sha na na, Footloose- Kenny Loggins Choreographer: Shaun Dillon Dancers: Sam Thappa, Alfie Simmonds, Dylan Morris, Nick Grau, James Blenkinsop, Robert Dunklay-Gyimah, Toby Winfield-Robinson, Jake Hulford, Oscar Braddock, Reece Braddock, Archie Colgan, James Everest, Sonnie Waite, Phoenix Kai-Williams, Ali Durvesh, Henry Littell, Isobelle Webb, Alyssa Dixie, Scarlett Hogan, Gabriella Krawczyk BD1 is an all-male youth dance company led by Shaun Dillon. They focus their training and work on high energy and physically demanding choreography spanning character based work to emotionally complex contemporary dance theatre. Little Irish Dancers from Chase Bridge Primary School Piece: 6 Hand Ceili Music: River Dance Reel Around The Sun Choreographer: Robyn Harland Dancers: Annie, Emmi-Lee, Faye, Fay, Liana, Abigail Y4 & Y5 girls from Chase Bridge Primary School Irish Dancing Club have put together a traditional 6 Hand Ceili (group Irish dance). Kelly’s Dance Piece: Voyage Music: Green Light- Lorde Choreographer: Kelly Dampier Dancers: Daisy Doggart, Millie Doggart, Helmi Lehtovaara, Eva McClaren, Emilie Mealing, Reece Straughn, Isobel Ticehurst, Kasey Ward, Jess Wallis, Mia West, Ellie Wrigglesworth This dance group was formed 2 years ago and consists of girls aged between 11 and 15 years old. They all have a passion for dance and love performing. We mainly work on the style of street dance, but the girls have recently enjoyed working on contemporary dance and musical theatre, as well as choreographic skills and strengthening technique.
Grand Gesture Piece: Walk Wake Woke Music: Deadman’s Stroll- The Revels, Lust for Life- Iggy Pop Choreographer: Mary Cox, Bruce Currie, Gilly Hanna Dancers: Mary Cox, Bruce Currie, Gilly Hanna This recently formed trio of experienced senior dancers wishes to challenge the current perceptions of elder dance. We can still dance, jump and move and we want to perform works that challenge us physically and intellectually. We collaboratively create dances by utilising the individual strengths of each performer. Why do we exist? Because older dancers can be cool, strong, fierce, creative and powerful. We're romping into old age! Thrive Youth Dance Company Piece: Bridges Not Walls Music: Run Boy Run (Instrumental) by Woodkid Choreographer: Sarah Poekert in collaboration with the dancers Dancers: Mia Gibson, Cordelia Kelly, Arabella Scott, Jamie Barrett, Noa Gold, Savvannah Joubert, Esther Waring, Christina Hilari-Bratland, Rosie Gordon, Nima Sanei, Jess Hilder-Bailey, Maya Demetriou, Rafaela Araujo da Conceicao We seem to build too many walls and not enough bridges… The students explore how to build walls and how we might break them down in order to make connections and build bridges. Christ’s School Piece: Stone Cold Music: Stone Cold Choreographer: Ciara Wynn-Davies Dancers: Gabriela Bolokan, Zara Hussain, Ana Branford, Jenna Boyce, Poppy Seaborn-Johnson, Grace Chesters, Candela Gil Fonfria, Ella Slade, Cherry Seed, Roya Vajdi, Sonya Khalafina, Elizabeth Asante, Maya Scahuiu Stone Cold explores a range of emotions. The dancers have been challenged to listen to the words and the music, and communicate their own story and range of emotions to the audience through dance and performance.
Lowther Dance Squad Piece: Just Dance Music: Medley of songs-The XX- Intro, Sigrid- Strangers, Sia- Chandelier, Lady Gaga- Just Dance Choreographer: Abbie Mason Dancers: Adelaide Prance, Cassidy Taylor-Charter, Anusha Keating, Sophia Lefebure, Olympia Henningsson, Kitty Shone, Keziah Blake, Ameliah Mckoy, Isabelle Fawcett, Emily Mali, Amelia Reynolds, Jessica Teichert, Elle Rosser, Catherine Esin, Lexie Macias, Sophia Khalil, Betsy Rolton, Francesca Yerby, Harvey Vanrell, Nyla Lavrado, Maddy Harverson Lowther Dance Squad is a group of children aged 7-11 that attend Lowther Primary School. When creating this piece, the children thought about how space and direction can change the dynamics of a dance along with formation. They also spent time thinking about expression and how we are able to portray how we feel through movement. The songs that have been chosen showcase technical abilities as well as the diversity of styles the children have learnt. This piece, choreographed by Jo Meredith reflects on the themes in English National Ballet's repertoire, Lest We Forget and what these mean to the young people of today. Highly physical and dynamic in nature, this work explores control and manipulation within today’s society. Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance Piece: Foolery, Sir Music: Papirosn- Klezmic Zirkus Choreographer: Rosie Reith & Oscar Li Dancers: Rosie Reith & Oscar Li Foolery, Sir is about two street performers who are passed it. Through this duo’s pronounced physicality and exaggerated expressions, we witness these characters understand that there is both eternal hope and futility in performance.
Ricards Dance Collective Piece: Lives Not Knives Music: Mix: Trap mash instrumental (Hope Dealers); Woke (Big Tobz); Lay Me Bare (Stormzy) and spoken word/ news report excerpts Choreographer: Jessica Barron and Eva Kovalenkaite Dancers: Eva Kovalenkaite, Kellis Hylton, Mya Sammy, Briyana Ofori, Kinza Nithiandan, Fay Dawkins, Jessica Annin Adjei, Abigail Channer, Rosalie Robiti, Jin Hee Jeong, Megan Namiiro, Chhaya Ivey, Caitlin Richards, Taliyah Grant, Tiyohni Grey, Tiana Adonli, Lydia Marezana, Blessing Acquah, Joelle Zonga, Alliana Johnson, Jizel Onwuchekwa, Kasey Sarpong, Yasmin Naouli, Hanna Wainwright Suicide and homicide are two of the biggest killers of men under 45. After speaking to young people, we found that many young men in London suffer with mental health as a result of the rise in knife crime and youth violence. This piece aims to raise awareness for these two social issues and send a positive message of hope and compassion, as well as signposting charity organisations that can support those affected by the themes presented in the dance. Alliance Dance Unit Piece: So Fantastical Music: Custom Mixed Set Choreographer: Torriarna Dewar Dancers: Annalisa Maspes, Tyzja Dewar, Caitlyn Flower, Amy Molla, Taylor Forde, Morenike Allinson, Manveer Mann-Soor, Torriarna Dewar This piece surrounds the mentality of finding the inner strength to break free from madness. Shuffle Piece: Felt Music: Familiar- Nils Frahm Choreographer: Ihsaan De Banya

They meet weekly with their Artistic Director Ihsaan De Banya. In Felt, Shuffle explore feelings, atmospheres and textures created in the sound to inform and inspire their movement. K-Motion Piece: Big for your Boots Music: Big for your Boots- Stormzy Choreographer: Fern Crosbie Dancers: Lily Williams, Lola Williams, Maya Papa, Sophia Papa, Ava Rouine, Mia Turrent, Anya Morgan, Cristina Fullana, Rory Harris, Harrison Tincknell, Paloma Cajigao, Maddie Todd, Poppy Hand Today our junior crew (K-Motion) will be performing a hip hop piece using foundational street dance styles to a UK Grime track. Focusing on musicality and power to bring a presence to the stage. There are a mix of dancers aged between 7-12 years old and all train in street dance styles at Studio K in Richmond.
