World news
Elise Christie has thanked kids for their 'inspirational'
support after being disqualified from the 1000m short
track speed skating.
Kids as young as five have been sending messages of
support to the World Champion during her difficult
Olympics. Christie said: "It's amazing that five year
old's, seven year old's can find me inspiring, that brings
tears to my eyes." Christie was eliminated after crashing
in the 1000m heat and then being disqualified following
the restart. It means the hotly tipped skater has failed
to win a single medal at this year's Olympics. Elise was
also disqualified from all three of her races at the
Winter Olympics in Sochi four years ago.

Kids vote on Tokyo 2020's new mascot
It might seem ages away, but school children in Japan
are already thinking about the year 2020. That's
because they've been voting on who they want as the
mascot for the 2020 Olympic Games, which will be held
in Tokyo.

Wellington news:
Year six heart dissection
This week, year six had the wonderful chance to dissect
a lambs heart. Although it sounds gruesome, it was a
once in a life time experience and all the classes were so
excited to get this opportunity. Juliet, a worker from
Hands On Science, was supervising them and teaching
them about how vital the heart is to the body and all of
the different parts and how they work together to keep
us healthy. Magnolia from opal class mentioned, "I felt
so excited to actually do this activity, I have learnt
about all the different parts including the heart
strings".

The Great Wellington Book Swap
Next week, year 6 are organizing the Great Wellington
Book Swap in honour of World Book Day! To contribute to
this event, bring in a book – more than one if you can
suitable for KS2 – and you will receive a book token. With
it, you can get a new book of your choice during lunch time
from your teachers!

UNICEF: Rights Respecting school
In KS1, they have also now elected all of their
UNICEF councilors. They can now help us win the
award. Ms. Flora and some other children have
been packing all of our donations for the backpack
appeal into backpacks that will be taken to poor
places in Africa to help children in need. Also,
Years 3 and 4 will be having a picnic and everyone
needs to bring in some Fairtrade food. Years 5 and
6 will have a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and
everyone will have to bring in some Fairtrade
       chocolate.
