DISCOVER YOUR POSSIBILITIES Some people know exactly what they want to do in life, so choosing what to study is much easier. They know what they are good at; they know their strengths and how they want to use them. But for many people it’s not so easy. There are lots of courses, many different jobs, and plenty of career choices out there. So making the right decision about what to study can seem daunting. It’s important to get lots of information to help you make a well-informed decision. A good place to start is the Government’s Careers NZ website at careers.govt.nz. It’s a good idea to think about what you’re interested in. Spend some time thinking about what you like and don’t like, and what you’re good at. If you have a profession in mind, you could talk to people who are working in the industry. They can tell you which skills, experience and qualifications you need. You may find that you have knowledge, skills or previous achievements that can count towards your qualification. At EIT, we’ve got lots of experience supporting students to make important decisions and pointing them in the right direction. Come and have a chat with us. We can put you in touch with programme coordinators and arrange an appointment to talk with the careers counsellor about your career, training and education choices. 0800 22 55 348 7
