NOVEMBER 2021 the bridge linking members, mission and events Welcome As we draw 2021 to a close, I am grateful to God for His faithfulness and leading and for the Executive and all members as we navigated our way through another different year. Our staff, Ruth, Linda and Kimberly have been and are working within restrictions and we are all looking forward to when our wonderful volunteers will be able to join us. As we celebrate Advent, the reality of Christmas, in God’s greatest gift of his son our Saviour, I hope that you might be encouraged to look forward with a grateful heart and thanksgiving for 125 years of Mothers Union Sydney. We have come a long way under God. I wish you and those you love every blessing this Christmas and look forward to catching up in 2022. John 1:14. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. Love and prayers,

Say “hello” to Mavis… Mavis Booth has been a member of Dapto Branch for eleven years and has wholeheartedly taken to the task of using her gifts and considerable skills to produce hundreds of pairs of bootees, beautiful jackets and caps and rugs for the shop over the years. Mavis is one of the many faithful members who share generously so that Mothers Union Sydney’s ministry can flourish in our diocese and beyond. Thank you all for your generosity, you are appreciated! Update on workers Please pray for Gemma at Jamberoo and Rhiannon at Airds as they help families in their parishes celebrate Christmas. Give them stamina and wisdom as they continue to serve in these times. Give praise and thanks for the women, families and young people they have connected with this year and for the privilege of partnering with them. Pray for those who might hear the gospel for the first time that they might be open, that they might understand and rejoice in the true meaning of Christmas.
Let’s meet Elizabeth our newest Vice President and Simone from our Wollongong Team Elizabeth Simone Elizabeth — Having served with my husband in Parish Ministry we retired to Moss Vale, in the beautiful Southern Highlands. In our local Church, I was reintroduced to the work of Mothers Union Sydney and have come to value, even more, the vision of Mary Sumner. It has been a great joy for me to be associated with the ladies, and the work of Mothers Union Sydney. I delight to spend time in God's Word, sharing the Christian faith with our children and grandchildren, and being creative with needlework and gardening. Simone — My name is Simone, I live in the beautiful Illawarra, and I am married to James. We have 6 children, three of whom are married, and 4 grandchildren so far. I am a teacher, with a background in high school music teaching. I also teach piano and preschool music class which is super fun! I am an avid reader, and enjoy dabbling with card making. I made a decision this year to run 3 times a week — hard work for a non-athlete like me! I have kept it up, and enjoyed some beautiful beach sunrises. I may even do it again next year! I have been involved in West Wollongong Mothers Union for the last 6 or 7 years, and have also enjoyed spending some time with Mothers Union branches in other areas of the country.
Nungalinya News Faith and Family Course Over the last month or so, we have had graduations from the inaugural ‘Faith & Family’ course. At Ngukur (Anglican), Maningrida (Uniting) and Wadeye (Catholic) communities, with strong links to the mentioned denominations, cohorts of students completed their studies and graduated amongst family and friends. They were both joyous occasions and timely reminders that there is still much more work to be done as people and communities build resilience and well-being systems in times of grief, trauma and violence. Please pray for us as we make decisions around the future of this course and whether to offer it to more communities in 2022. Thank you to all the Mothers Union Sydney Members who have contributed to the 2021 and 2022 Project of Ipads for Nungalinya. They have made a world of difference for the students. If you wish to give or have yet to forward your branch gift please send to Treasurer.
Looking forward How’s your diary looking for 2022? After the lockdown this year it’s hard to think beyond next week let alone to next year. But February is fast approaching and the Annual February Seminar is on February 25 at the Cathedral. So do put the date in your diary. We would love to see you in person but it will be live-streamed again as we live in uncertain times. This coming year we’ll be thinking about FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS — The Booster shot we need. Jo Gibbs the CEO of Anglican Deaconess Ministries will be giving the Bible talk on ‘The God We Know’ and Rob Smith will speak on ‘Have I the right to be who I am?’ These days our identity is being challenged and many people are asking ‘Who Am I?’ The third talk will by Jenny Brown who spoke in 2018 and is a psychologist. Her topic is ‘When Dreams are Broken in the Family’. This is a significant issue on many levels. There are so many families in our churches who when their children are young would not imagine them walking away from Jesus as a teenager or as an adult. The identity of the family is changed or even broken. Their children often take on a different identity as a child of the world. We would love you to PRAY for the Seminar for our speakers Jo, Rob and Jenny and the organisation of the day. If you’re not able to attend in person you might be able to get together with a group from your church and watch. RSVP to Marilyn at email: secretary@musydney.org.au
