WEBELOS KLONDIKE DERBY 2021 SNOW NOTES - Battleground District - Quail Hill Scout Reservation Saturday, April 24, 2021 ...
WELCOME!!!
   - Welcome to the Annual Battleground Webelos Klondike! We
hope your scouts will enjoy the adventure of testing their scout
skills in our six Alaskan towns, Nome (Nature Identification),
Aniakchak (Fire Building), Hooper Bay (First Aid), Fort Yukon
(Team Building), Point Hope (Knots), and Tok (Map & Compass).

   - Fee is $8 per scout if you register on the Council website by
April 15th. After that, it is $10 per scout. No fee for adults.

   - This year, the Webelos Klondike will be held in the same area as
the Scouts BSA Klondike. As the Webelos are walking around,
they can see the older scouts running around with their
Klondike sleds, packed with equipment, doing their more
difficult challenges. The older scouts will be on a different time
schedule. We hope the Webelos will have fun watching the older
     scouts doing their challenges!

   - Webelos should bring their Webelos handbook, along with some
water and snacks, in a day pack. They do NOT need to bring a
sled, or any scouting equipment (that’s only for the older Scouts
BSA Klondike). All of the Webelos challenges come from the
Webelos handbook. Scouts must wear hiking boots or hiking
     shoes. NO SNEAKERS!!!

   - Each Webelos Den should have a Den Flag and a Cheer! Every
Klondike Mayor will ask for an enthusiastic cheer when they
     arrive in their town!

   - Please do not arrive at Quail Hill until 9:15am at the earliest!
Your check-in time is from 9:30-9:50 am. The Opening Flag
Ceremony will start at 9:50 am near the BB/Archery Area. Details
     on page 7.

   - For future reference, we normally hold the Klondike on the first
Saturday in February. So please mark your calendars for the
next Klondike on February 5th, 2022!!!

BATTLEGROUND DISTRICT – 2021 Klondike Derby

                              Rules relative to COVID

The next 3 pages are a Pre-Event Medical Screening Checklist, Youth Camp
Daily Log with Health Screening Questions, and a QHSR COVID-19 Camp
FAQ page. Please read them NOW and return here.

On the day of the Klondike, before departing your local area for Quail Hill,
the Den Leader must review all questions on the Youth Camp Daily Log
with all scouts and adults. (Yes, everything on the COVID rules applies to
everyone, including parents who are “just driving” and dropping off or
picking up.) The Den Leader must list everyone, scouts and adults, on the
Youth Camp Daily Log. If you cannot answer “NO” to all five questions,
sorry, but you cannot attend the Klondike.

Even though we are NOT using Lawrence Lodge this year, everyone will be
parking in the lower parking lots near Lawrence Lodge. Your den should
gather there and walk up the road TOGETHER to the Lass Lodge parking
lot. (Only mayors, staff and those camping for the weekend will be parking
at Lass Lodge). Your first stop will be with the Klondike Health Officer at
the entrance to the Lass Lodge Parking Lot. Everyone will have their
temperature taken. The Youth Camp Daily Log will be accepted from the
Den Leader and compared to the number of pre-registered scouts. If there
are additional scouts attending, then the fee of $10 per additional scout
must be paid via the BG Klondike webpage before the troop can enter.
Wristbands will be given to all scouts and adults who are admitted and
must be worn during the duration of the Klondike!

Everyone must wear a face mask that covers both your nose and mouth, at
all times, unless eating or drinking.

While at Quail Hill, each den will be in their own “bubble”. At each town,
the staff will be in their own “bubble”. The dens and staff should minimize
contact as much as possible. Everyone must maintain social distancing
between “bubbles”, and, as much as possible, even within “bubbles”.

Failure to follow these rules will result in your dismissal from Klondike &
Quail Hill. Remember to wear your wrist band at all times!!!

BATTLEGROUND DISTRICT – 2021 Webelos Klondike Derby

All registration will be done online, and must be completed by Thursday,
April 15th. The cost is the same as prior years, $8 per scout, no charge for
adults walking around. Fees are not refundable. If more scouts show up
than have registered, additional scouts will be charged $10.

Please arrive between 9:15-9:40 am. All vehicles must park in the lower
parking lots near the camp entrance. No cars will be permitted past the
camp entrance (with the exception of Klondike Staff, those camping at
QHSR for the weekend, and those attending events other than the BG
Klondike).

After checking in with the Klondike Health Officer (from 9:30-9:50 am) at the
entrance to the Lass Lodge parking lot (see page 3), please gather in the
field between the Lass Lodge parking lot and the BB/Archery range. Your
Webelos Klondike Governor, Steve Toth, will greet you there for an Opening
Flag Ceremony and instructions, starting at 9:50 am.

The Webelos Klondike will start at 10:00 am. We’ve allocated 30 minutes
per town, roughly 20 minutes for the event and 10 minutes to get to the
next town. Dens can earn up to 100 nuggets (this is an Alaskan Gold Rush
after all!) at each town.

At 1:00 pm, all Dens should be finished. Please gather in the field near
BB/Archery for the final results and Closing Ceremony, at about 1:30 pm.

The trading post at Lass Lodge will be open during the Klondike, via a
window, so it’s a bit like the drive-up at McDonald’s. There might be a line,
and it might take a while to get what you want. All participants are
encouraged to bring their own food & water and carry it in a day pack.

Got questions? Please contact Steve Toth at 908-337-6901, or send him an
email at Joy2dawrld@aol.com
