Social Events At WMS we pride ourselves on having something for everyone, so as well as a great range of academic and department events. We also have a fine selection of social events to help you get to know your fellow mathematicians. We’ve got a wide range events, so regardless of what you’re looking for, there’s something for you. The legendary team of Alex, Owen and Adam are your democratically-elected social secretaries, so they're in charge of ensuring you have as much fun as possible when you’re off the clock. Feel free to ask us any questions you might have about socials in person or via the Facebook page. We run a regular socials each term. For a nice chilled night in, we host board games nights in which we break out the Scrabble, scream over Uno and enjoy a nice bit of free pizza. For those of you who prefer a big night out, we regularly run circling (big pre-drinks with games) before nights out for when you need to let off a little steam from the mounting pile of incomplete assignments. Our annual events cover a lot of bases including the introductory party at Integrating Factor, the extravagant bonanza that is the WMS ball and our trips abroad and so much more. Meet the Exec Mireia Taus: Vice President Bringing you this year... Informative weekly emails and (covid permitting) an enjoyable tour. Fun fact: I love this tree and you should too (try the labyrinth)! Kate Thomas: President Bringing you this year... An in person return of the best (no bias) society at Warwick! Fun fact: I’ve been to every POP! in 2020 Alex Low: Social Sec Adam Zghoundi: Bringing you this year... Social Sec Hopefully, a good time! I really want to focus on making Bringing you this year... sure everyone, especially next year’s freshers, can take part in the society and enjoy a range of events. A unforgettable post-covid Uni experience! Fun fact: I've worked as a lumberjack. Fun fact: I'm a big University challenge fan. Owen Williams: Social Sec Bringing you this year... I’ll be working with Alex and Adam to bring term after term of top-tier social events, for everyone in the society. We’re aiming to break the stigma that WMS can only be enjoyed by maths students; we want everyone to be comfortable embracing their wild side outside the world of lectures. Fun fact: I’ve played and beaten Daniel Negreanu at chess. Adam Beech: Treasurer Bringing you this year... A well-financed society, you’re welcome. Fun fact: I’ve listened to Taylor Swift more than every other artist combined Lauren Schlomovich: Academic Events Bringing you this year... I’ll be organising revision lectures and competitions! Some exciting academic events are in the works to set off the new academic year, so keep an eye out for those Fun fact: My favourite module is geometry and motion!

Hopefully a break from studying, where you can socialise with other maths students and engage in sports in a supportive and friendly atmosphere. Fun fact: I once spent more than 40 hours without sleep whilst drinking wine in a village Lucie Slater: Equal Opportunities Officer Bringing you this year... I’d like to have more of a focus on welfare and mental health within the society. Don’t hesitate to contact me about anything related to mental wellbeing! Engaging academic talks from a variety of speakers: students, staff, alumni and more! Fun fact: I am borderline addicted to peanut m&m’s. Ameer Saleem: Publications Officer Bringing you this year... A pretty sweet website and premium revision resources. Fun fact: I once got stuck on a zipline(!) Ben Kuson: Marketing Officer Bringing you this year... Fancy graphics. Fun fact: Aldi spelt backwards is Lidl.
How we can support you The transition to University study isn't an easy one. Don't worry though, WMS has got you covered: Maths Cafe Are you stuck on an assignment? Confused about one of your modules? Or do you just want to chat about maths? Come to Maths Cafe! Each week, our very own Academic Support Exec Luca and James will be ready to help! If you still aren’t persuaded, we also have free food and drinks. Weekly Talks Elliptic curves, squaring the circle, Bernoulli numbers and the Riemann Zeta Function. Talks demonstrate where the maths we are studying leads to, be it in day to day life, major areas of research, or even your second year essay. Talks take place 18:00- 19:00 every Tuesday. Our speakers encompass world-leading experts, PhD students, and fellow undergraduate students. All thanks to our Academic Talks Coordinator Hassan!
Mentoring Scheme On the Society’s mentor scheme, we pair freshers with older students who have experienced the ups and downs of being in first year. The mentors will support you throughout the year and will advise on anything from how to prepare best for exams and lectures to the best night-time activities Warwick has to offer like POP. Sign-ups will open at the beginning of term! Sports Fancy playing some sports? We already have a mixed netball squad and a football team, with our basketball team forming this year. Feel free to drop our Sports Officer, Elifsu, a message if you fancy taking up a new sport, or even want to start up a new maths team! Coffee and Cake Come along to our weekly sessions celebrating equality in maths! With free food and drinks and even better company, why not grab a mini roll (or 3) and have a chat with friends and course mates in a relaxed environment between busy lectures.

Week 3 Ada Lovelace day An afternoon to celebrate equality and diversity in maths, with talks from inspiring female mathematicians. POP! circle Make sure to grab a POP! ticket and join us for the unmissable return of WMS copper rooms circling Week 4 Board games night Relax with some chill games or unleash your competitive side; either way we've got you covered Week 5 Bowling A chance for a casual evening out in Leamington and to show off your pro bowling skills Week 6 WMS x PhysSoc joint Kelsey's circle And many more events later in the year! International tour From the 19th until the 22nd of March, join WMS and PhysSoc in an epic quest to Budapest! With pub crawls, partying and some insane sightseeing, this trip is sure to be a banger!
