2 Waco’s 3 HISTORY OF WEST MUSEUM ATTRACTIONS Housed in an 1890’s-era historic building in West, about 20 miles north of Waco. The museum includes a replica of the early pioneer town of West. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial tells the story of the war and its effects on Waco and the nation. Pavilions in the sculpture walk include The Beginning, The Conflict, and the Honor. Under the third pavilion stands a monument listing the names of the fallen who were from McLennan County. Yaupon holly trees were planted for each fallen soldier. Just past the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial, the visitor can find memorials commemorating those lost in the Korean War, Gulf War, Iraq War, and Afghanistan War. 10 11 THE WACO CONVENTION & VISITORS BUREAU PRESENTS THE MAGNOLIA MARKET AT THE SILOS MAGNOLIA Magnolia Market at the Silos covers two city blocks in downtown Waco and features two landmark 120’ tall silos. The silos were built in 1950 as part of the Brazos Valley Cotton Oil Company. The grounds include a 12,000 sq. ft. retail store located in the historic grain barn and office building, a food truck park with picnic tables, a garden store, bakery, and lawn area W A C O , T E X A S with free lawn games such as corn hole and football. Admission to the grounds is free except during some special events. While at the silos, enjoy the beautiful garden blooming with plants inspired by Joanna’s greenhouse, and browse through the items you can purchase in the store at Magnolia Seed + Supply. Don’t forget to get a cupcake at the Silos Baking Co.! Super Time at the Silos and Exploring Waco My wife, daughter and myself left Dallas to take a short trip to Waco to visit Magnolia Market at the Silos. We are all big fans of the HGTV show and we wanted to explore the shops and the town of Waco. We were glad we did. We had a great side trip to Waco and Magnolia Market. We highly recommend it and exploring Waco. 44 About the WACO CONVENTION & VISITORS BUREAU The Waco Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) is responsible for marketing Waco as a destination for visitors, meeting planners, and other types of groups. The CVB is funded by City of Waco hotel occupancy tax, along with contributions from its partner cities of Bellmead, Hewitt, and McGregor.
