Humanities and Social Sciences • Course is aligned with the Australian Curriculum • Geography – Water in the World and Place and Liveability • Politics and Law – Designing our Political and Legal System • History – Investigating the Ancient Past, Ancient Rome • Economics – Introduction to Economics • Assessments and SEQTA

Mathematics Homework 15-30 minutes x 4 nights week • This may involve: • Learning times tables • Completing class work • Using Hotmaths • Revising/Studying
Maths Help • Students must sign in and remain until 4.15 • 2 Maths teachers each week there to assist • Use Khan Academy or Wootube (both on YouTube) • Use Hotmaths to consolidate and revise Maths Help - Wednesday 3.30-4.15 pm in Room G04
Science • Students study Science for 4 periods a week. • Curriculum is based on the Western Australian Science Curriculum. • Course is divided into 4 major topics: 1. Chemical Science 2. Physical Science 3. Biological Science 4. Earth and Space Science • Course outline and Assessment structures are listed on SEQTA.
Science - Class Expectations • Students are required to bring the following items to each lesson 1. Science World 7 textbook 2. Display folder 3. Exercise Books x2 4. Safety glasses – students should have received these from their Science teacher 5. College Diary
Science - Class Expectations (cont.) • Science policy – no glasses, no practical. If your child loses or breaks their glasses, a replacement pair can be purchased from their Science teacher. Cost $5. • Diary - it is expected all homework is recorded in the diary. Please check your child’s diary to see what homework has been given.
Science - Assessments • Teachers will use a number of different types of assessments to assess students progress throughout the year. • These include: Topic tests, Investigations, Practical Tests, Research Assignments and Other • Other - a mark will be allocated by their teacher for various tasks each Semester. Eg. Completion of homework, Education Perfect tasks, File Organisation, completion of Lab Reports and study notes.
Homework • Homework will be given during the week at the discretion of the teacher. • Homework is given to consolidate content taught in class. • Includes- unfinished work and set tasks eg. Education Perfect • Study notes are essential as preparation for assessments. • Teachers will introduce the writing of study notes during this term.
Homework • If your child comes home and says they have nothing to do, ask them if their study notes are up to date. • Be involved in your child’s learning. Ask what they have been learning in class, ask to see their study notes, quiz them on the content, view the tasks set on Education Perfect. • The more they practice, the better they will learn.
Communication • If you have any questions related to Science, your first point of contact is your child’s Science Teacher. • If the issue isn’t resolved after this initial contact, then the Science Learning Area Co-Ordinator should be contacted - Mrs Paula Weston (Science LAC). • If the matter still isn’t resolved, at this point only should the Head of Middle School be contacted.
Communication • For your child to do well, there needs to be open communication between your child, their teacher and you the parent. • Encourage your child to talk to their teacher, ask questions, seek assistance when required.
Science Help • After school Science Help classes run on a Monday afternoon from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. • All students are welcome to attend. • Science staff will be present to assist students with any problems they may be having with their Science work. • Students will be asked to sign in when they arrive and sign out when they leave.
Form Teachers
Role of the Form Teacher The Form Teacher is the first person your child sees each day. Together with the Cluster Leader, our aim is to foster and maintain genuine pastoral care for all students in the Middle School.
Morning Form • Includes students in years 7, 8 and 9. • First bell at 8.25am for an 8.30am start. • Being punctual is important and students who arrive after 8:30am will be marked as late. • Form includes: • Prayer • Notices for students • Pastoral activities and building relationships
Absentees Parents must phone Student Services or email absenteessecondary@ufcc.wa.ed.au when your child is sick/unable to attend school.
Late Arrivals/Early Departures • Students must bring a note if they are late or need to leave school early and sign in/out at Student Services using SEQTA Kiosk. • Students arriving late to Form will sign in using SEQTA Kiosk and a notification will be sent home. • 4 unexplained lates = Friday Detention
Uniform • We take great pride in our uniform at Frayne and the expectation is the uniform policy is respected at all times. • Non-compliance results in a uniform infringement and a uniform detention will be issued. • If a student receives 3 infringements in a term, it will result in a Friday Detention (3.30pm-4.30pm)
Mobile Phones and Electronic Devices • Students are permitted to bring a mobile phone to school but it must remain in their locker for the duration of the day. • If you need to contact your child, please do so through Student Services. • A Minor Discipline for Noting will be issued for the use of a phone or breach of ICT agreement.
SEQTA Communication • Teachers will communicate home regarding the following: • Note of Commendation • Pastoral Care Notes • Academic Progress • Uniform Infringements • Minor Discipline for Noting
Diaries • We encourage students to use the diary for homework, reminders and general organisation. • Parents are encouraged to check the diary regularly.
Extra-Curricular Activities The College provides a number of opportunities for students to participate in extra-curricular activities: • Christian Service Learning opportunities • SAS afterschool sport (Semester 1) • ACC Swimming/Cross Country/Athletics • Catholic Performing Arts: Dance and Music • YCS (Youth Christian Service) • Chess Club • Maths and English after school help • Middle School Social events
Communication • If the issue is regarding the general well-being of your child, please contact Form Teachers first, or the Cluster Leader. • However, if the issue relates to a specific learning area, please contact the subject teacher via SEQTA or email.
College Psychologist • College Psychologist - Kim Thuijs • Bookings can be made through Student Services. • Students are informed about meetings through SEQTA.
