Updates from Orange High School… The Week of February 1, 2021 ORANGE COHORT IN-PERSON UPCOMING NO-SCHOOL DAYS This is just a reminder that there is no school on the following dates: February 12 February 15 March 3 (grades 9 & 10 only) March 22 – 26 PICTURE RETAKES We want every OHS student to be featured in this year’s historic yearbook, and in order to do so we need everyone’s school picture. All students grades 9-12 who have not taken their school portrait or who would like a retake from the fall will have another the opportunity on J February 1. Photos will be taken in the OHS Multiuse Gymnasium from 10:00am – 4:00pm on both days; hybrid students can go during their English class or lunch, remote students can go during a free period, lunch, or after school. Click here for picture order information. SPRING SPORTS MEETING The Orange Athletic Department will be holding the Spring Sports Parent Meetings virtually this year. The meetings will be hosted by each Spring Head Coach. They will be conducted on a week night from 6-7 pm during the week of February 15th. In order to receive the Zoom information for the meetings, please make sure you have registered your child with the Spring Sport they are interested in joining through Final Forms (instructions attached) by February 5th. All sport specific and COVID-19 compliance information will be shared during this meeting. If you have any questions, please reach out to Athletic Director Katie Hine at khine@orangecsd.org. SCHOOL-DAY SAT FOR ALL JUNIORS On Wednesday, March 3, ALL current juniors (remote and in-person) are required to take the SAT at Orange High School as a part of their State of Ohio mandated testing. There is NO cost to students or families for this test. Due to the length of the test and the administration guidelines, there will be no school for students in grades 9 and 10 on March 3. Seniors will be completing their Senior Project Proposal Defense during this time. Juniors are expected to report to their assigned testing locations by 8:00am and testing will conclude approximately at 12:15pm. Students must bring #2 pencils and a calculator (no cell phones are permitted in the testing area). Adherence to all physical distancing guidelines will take place and masks must be worn at all times. PSAT-10 FOR ALL SOPHOMORES The PSAT-10 will be given to all students in grade 10 (free of charge) on Wednesday, March 10 at 8:00am in the OHS Varsity Gym. Students are expected to arrive by 8:00am and must bring #2 pencils and a calculator (no cell phones are permitted in the testing area). Adherence to all physical distancing guidelines will take place and masks must be worn at all times.
SENIOR PARENT INFORMATION Thank you to all senior parents who have paid this year's senior dues, which are $60.00. You can pay by cash, check (made out to Orange Board of Education), or online through Pay-For-It. If paying by check or cash please have your student drop the payment off in student services. Senior dues are not mandatory however the dues will help cover the cost of: SENIOR DINNER, SENIOR TSHIRT, SENIOR GIFT TO STUDENT In order to participate in these Senior activities, the dues must be paid. Also, a Google form was sent out to all seniors asking for their T-shirt size. I will need all the sizes complete before an order can be placed. Please make sure your senior has submitted this form. If you have questions, please contact the Sr. Class Adviser at mfludine@orangecsd.org. ATTENDANCE In order to report a student absent from their scheduled remote learning class, standard attendance rules apply. If you need to report your child absent, please contact OHS Attendance at ohsattendance@orangecsd.org or via phone at extension 2210. SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION NEW SCHOLARSHIPS: James T. & Rose M. Perryman Family Foundation Open to graduating seniors who have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and are planning to pursue a college major in engineering, math, metals, or technology. Also open to students planning on attending a trade school in welding, machine shop, mechatronics, networking, automation or a technology based program. Graduating seniors must submit a 500-word essay, perform a high level of service in their communities, provide a high school transcript, ACT and/or SAT scores (if required by the accredited school the student plans to attend) and one letter of recommendation. Note- In the place where you are supposed to upload a letter please upload a document that says, “My recommendation will be emailed to you by my counselor.” Then let me know you need a letter sent to them. Gordon A. Rich Memorial Scholarship Open to graduating seniors who have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and whose parents/guardians are full-time employees in the financial services industry. Applicants must intend to enroll in a full-time degree program in any 2 or 4 year accredited university, college, business, or technical school. Applicant and parent/guardian must complete the scholarship application and applicant must provide 2 letters of recommendation. Applicants will also complete an essay and provide a recent photo. Applicant’s school counselor needs to complete section 3 of the application and will provide a high school transcript. Chagrin Valley Woman’s Scholarship The Chagrin Valley Woman’s Club will offer $1,500 scholarships to students from local high schools who will begin their freshman year of college or technical school in the fall of 2021. The criteria for these scholarships include financial need, academic achievement, community involvement/service and work experience. To Apply- Each student must submit 3 copies of their application/essay, current official transcript, and 2 letters of recommendation to the guidance office. Application form can be found under the “Scholarships” tab on Mrs. Petronsky’s classroom. Due- March 5, 2021 (submitted to the guidance office/ sbargiel@orangecsd.org by noon) Ross Sr. & Carmella DeJohn Memorial Scholarship High School students that demonstrate the ideals of passion, respect and organization will be eligible for the Ross Sr. & Carmella DeJohn Memorial Scholarship. Each student awarded will receive $750. Applicants must be the child of an Orange alumni parent, a senior at Orange High School who is planning to enter an accredited college or university in the fall, and pursue a full-time course of study on an undergraduate basis. The parent must be a lifetime member of the Alumni Association prior to March 21, 2021 for student to be eligible for a scholarship. The Alumni Association enrollment process can be found of the scholarship application, located on Mrs. Petronsky’s classroom. To Apply- Complete application and include a copy of your transcript and SAT/ACT scores as well as letter of recommendation. Due- By noon on March 20, 2020 Fields of Learning Scholarship Complete an essay with the theme “Something I learned related to high school football.” This scholarship is available to all seniors, not just football players. Essay should be between 500-1500 words. To Apply- http://www.fieldsoflearning.org/ Due- March 31, 2021 Medical Mutual Scholarship We are pleased to announce the enhanced Medical Mutual Scholarship Fund for Customer Schools. Through this program, seniors graduating from Ohio school districts that carry Medical Mutual insurance are now eligible to apply online for a one-time $1,000 scholarship toward college tuition. Additionally, six top applicants across the state will receive a $10,000 award for their outstanding academic and community service efforts. American Legion Scholarships A variety of scholarships are available to graduating seniors through the American Legion. Check your Email for a FinalForms Email and click CONFIRM YOUR ACCOUNT in the email text. NOTE: You will receive an email within 2 minutes prompting you to confirm and complete your registration. If you do not receive an email, check your spam folder. If you still do not see the FinalForms email, please email support@finalforms.com 5. Create your new FinalForms password and click CONFIRM ACCOUNT 6. You may be asked if you want to grant another. Parent/Guardian access to your registered students. Go to https://orange-oh.finalforms.com 2. Click LOGIN under the Parent Icon 3. Click REGISTER STUDENT 4. Complete the form including the Student’s Legal Name, EMAIL ADDRESS, Date of Birth, Gender, Graduation Year, Home Address and any other information required by your School District, then click CREATE STUDENT NOTE: A student email address may or may not be required depending on your school district preferences. If so, the email address provided may be used to send reminders to your student. 5. If your student plans to participate in a sport, activity, or club please click the checkbox for each. Click UPDATE after making your selection. NOTE: A selection can be changed any time until the registration deadline. 6. Complete each form and sign your full name (e.g. "John Smith") into the Parent Signature field at the bottom of the page. After signing, click SUBMIT FORM and move on to the next form. 7. When all forms are complete, you will see a “Forms Finished” message. ***IMPORTANT*** If required, an email will automatically be sent to the email address that you provided for your student prompting him/her to sign Student forms requiring his/her signature. 8.
