ACADEMICS Our academic program balances rigorous on-grade level instruction with differentiated small group and individual instruction. Sunnycrest uses the leveled reading program by American Reading Company (ARC) named IRLA. Every 14 days your child will conference with his or her teacher to set power goals for reading mastery. As scholars meet their goals, they will “level-up” in reading. Sunnycrest Mission Statement We also use Ready mathematics. Ready math teaches scholars to apply mathematics to real world situations and encourages students to find different ways to solve problems and share their thinking. In addition, scholars complete individualized computer-based lessons through a In an environment of program called “iReady.” iReady uses diagnostic tests to place scholars on a path towards mastery and acceleration. iReady lessons can be high expectations, done both at school and at home. high support, and no excuses, the staff We have several support teachers on staff who partner with classroom of Sunnycrest will teachers to provide instruction. S O C I A L E M O T I O N A L H E A LT H Your child’s ability to manage his or her emotions, solve problems, and develop social skills is also important to us. We use Second Step and PBIS to teach the skills needed for emotional well-being. Our School Counselor, Family Liai- son, Assistant Principal and Dean work together to meet the needs of our scholars and their families. We have a school mascot, the Roadrunner. Each week they help us to celebrate scholars who are following our schoolwide expectations of being SAFE, KIND, and PRODUCTIVE. We give out special tickets called “feathers” to scholars and we have posted expectations around the building so everyone knows how to earn them.
