Important Dates for Fall 2018 Admission Northern Arizona University Enrollment deposit date: May 1, 2018 Submit transcripts: July 1, 2018 University of Arizona: Fall 2018 Application Deadline: June 1, 2018 Spotlight on Pima Alumni Meet Andreas Munguia Riveras. Andreas decided to attend college at age 18 during his senior year of high school. When he applied to college, he had no idea what he wanted to study. Although he had been interested in politics before then, it was the 2016 election that influenced his decision to pursue a degree in Political Science. He attended Pima three academic years and earned an Associate of Arts with an emphasis in Political Science. He chose to begin at Pima because it seemed like a great way to understand more about his interests and who he was becoming as he transitioned from high school to college. When he became aware of his true passion, he realized it was time to expand his horizons through higher education. Andreas is currently in his first academic year at University of Rochester pursuing a major in Political Science and a minor in International Relations. At the University of Rochester, he is meeting people from all over the globe. The support services at the University have given him tools necessary to continue the academic path leading to his chosen career. After earning his Bachelor’s degree, he intends to pursue a Master’s degree in International Relations.
Andreas’ advice to other students: • Do not give up! Once you know your true passion, stay focused. • You have the opportunity to transfer to any university you’d like. Do NOT doubt yourself. Just apply. You will be surprised. • Pima is a great institution which will provide you with the necessary foundation to succeed ANYWHERE. Work hard. Meet Ashley Zambos. Ashley always knew she wanted to go to college. It was never a question for her because her mother was attending college, earned a degree, and began working in higher education while she was growing up. Attending college was something she knew she would do because of her mother’s example. She began attending Pima fresh out of high school in fall 2016 and is scheduled to graduate May 2018 with an Associate of Liberal Arts and an Honors certificate. Her degree will prepare her for a double major at the University of Arizona in Economics and Anthropology. She is also pursuing a minor in Sociology. Ashley hadn’t chosen her Program of Study before attending Pima and was considering Nursing. However, as she began to take classes in Social Sciences, she soon realized that this was her calling. Although she has a natural love of Economics and Anthropology, she chose Sociology as a minor because she was inspired by her instructor, Dr. Rosalia Solorzano. She also credits her positive experiences at Pima to overall support from Pima staff and instructors Dr. Francisca James Hernandez, Mr. Travis Klein, and Dr. Dianna Repp. She has a long educational journey beyond earning her bachelor’s degree. She plans to earn a Master’s in Education and complete a PhD in Economic Anthropology so that she can teach and contribute to this developing field through research. Ashley started at Pima before transferring to the University of Arizona due to financial need. It made her life easier not worrying about tuition costs. Also, she is grateful that she attended Pima first because it helped her develop skills needed to transfer to a large University. She loves the University of Arizona’s supportive staff and student run organizations. As the President of Pima Pride, the LGBTQ+ Club she founded, and Secretary of the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance, the UA’s LGBTQ Affairs and the Women’s Resource Center are two crucial resources for her. Ashley’s advice to transfer students: Get to know the university or college where you want to transfer. Contact that school and learn what it has to offer in addition to education opportunities. Involvement will lead to joy and success.
