1 — KEY CONTACTS BRISBANE POWERHOUSE — UNDERGROUND THEATRE TECH SPEC DOCUMENT Theatre Enquiry Function Enquiry theatrehire@brisbanepowerhouse.org events@brisbanepowerhouse.org 2 — GENERAL INFORMATION 2.1 AIR CONDITIONING The Underground Theatre and its associated dressing rooms are air-conditioned. Temperature is controlled centrally. 2.2 ASSISTED LISTENING SYSTEM The venue is equipped with an UHF assistive hearing system for patrons. Headsets are collected by patrons from box office as needed. 2.3 AWARD CONDITIONS All technical staff at Brisbane Powerhouse work under the conditions of the Live Performance Award 2010. It is the responsibility of the Hirer to be familiar with the conditions of the Award. Brisbane Powerhouse can supply the Award on request. 2.4 COMMUNICATIONS As part of the venue hire, single channel wired comms packs are provided at certain points around the venue. Additional comms are available for hire if required. See section 6.5 for more details 2.5 DISABLED ACCESS The stage of the theatre is at River level and is accessible by disabled persons. Any additional requirements should be communicated to the Technical Services Department. We also have disabled holds in the audience. Details provided in contracts. 2.6 DRESSING ROOMS Two dressing rooms are available to Hirers of the Underground Theatre. Both are at stage level. All dressing rooms have toilets and showers. Extra dressing rooms available at additional cost. PAGE 02 / 11
2.7 EQUIPMENT DELIVERY BRISBANE POWERHOUSE — UNDERGROUND THEATRE TECH SPEC DOCUMENT All production related deliveries must be itemised and all details such as hire company and delivery times should be given to the appropriate Technical Services staff prior to bump in. All equipment must have the suitable number of people to unload it. All equipment must be removed following the final performance. Anything left at the venue for more than half a day may incur charges. 2.8 FIRE SERVICES Use of a smoke machine, hazer, aerosolised paint, metal cutting tools, or anything that is likely to trigger the venue smoke detectors will require the alarm system to be isolated. The isolation can only be performed by appropriate venue staff. On occasion additional in-venue staff may be required to ensure adequate fire monitoring. Any charges arising from false alarms, including the cost of Fire Brigade attendance are the responsibility of the Hirer. 2.9 GREEN ROOM The Green Room is located on level two at the opposite end of the building. It is available for all staff to use and on occasion doubles as a meeting room. There is a kitchenette situated outside the backstage doors of the Underground Theatre. There is an urn, microwave and a fridge for general use. 2.10 HEIGHT SAFETY Height safety equipment as required is provided as part of the venue hire. Hirer staff must be inducted if its use is required. All staff doing work that requires a harness must have working at heights certification and use a harness and head protection. 2.11 INSURANCE Details of insurance are provided with the venue contract. 2.12 LAUNDRY FACILITIES Basic laundry facilities are available with prior arrangement. Limited hand sewing tools are available for wardrobe repairs, but no sewing machinery is available. We also have two steamers and three irons. Washer brand: Kleenmaid Maxiwasher KFL 2000. 2.13 LOADING ACCESS BRISBANE POWERHOUSE — UNDERGROUND THEATRE TECH SPEC DOCUMENT Brisbane Powerhouse has two loading dock facilities. For rear loading trucks and vehicles, the lower loading dock is accessible from the car park and provides access to the Underground Theatre. The upper loading dock, accessible by prior arrangement with Brisbane Powerhouse, provides access to the Powerhouse Theatre for rear loading trucks and vehicles. The upper loading dock can accommodate a 40’ semi-trailer. A forklift is available via prior arrangement with Brisbane Powerhouse for side loading trucks. The Underground Theatre is accessible via the rear stage lift. Please see below for dimensions. 2.16 POWER BRISBANE POWERHOUSE — UNDERGROUND THEATRE TECH SPEC DOCUMENT Brisbane Powerhouse works on a distributed dual earth power system. The audio system operates on a true online UPS to condition the power and is on a separate earth to main power distribution. All audio points are red in colour. As part of the venue hire a limited supply of 240v leads are supplied. Additional 3 phase leads and weiland cables are available for hire. Other 3 phase outlets are located throughout the venue as follows. ⋅ 8 x 40 amp 3 phase in dimmer room (generally used for LX dimmers) ⋅ 2 x 40 amp 3 phase in rear stage, one SL, one SR ⋅ 1 x 40 amp 3 phase in bio box 2.17 PRODUCTION MEETINGS Production meetings between Brisbane Powerhouse Technical staff and the Hirer may be requested to determine production requirements. 2.18 RUBBISH All Hirer Rubbish must be removed from the theatre and dressing rooms at the conclusion of bump out. A small amount of rubbish can be disposed of in the venue bins but excess usage will incur charges. 2.19 SMOKING The Brisbane Powerhouse is a non-smoking venue. By law smoking can only take place only in Designated Smoking Areas. 2.20 STAGE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM The Stage Managers Desk (SMD) is located rear stage, prompt side. The system has full paging and relay to the dressing rooms attached to the Underground Theatre, this also patches to the house communications. It also features an in-built cue light system and stage monitor. 2.21 TECHNICAL STAFF Brisbane Powerhouse requires a minimum of two technical staff to be present when the Hirer is in the Underground Theatre. Brisbane Powerhouse may determine additional technical staff are necessary dependent on production requirements. 2.22 THEATRE ACCESS Artist access to the Underground Theatre is via either the lower loading dock or through the backstage doors in the river level foyer. 2.23 WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY BRISBANE POWERHOUSE — UNDERGROUND THEATRE TECH SPEC DOCUMENT The Hirer shall ensure safe work practices are adhered to by their staff and defer to the venue staff if there is a question of safety and/or damage to the venue or equipment. All visiting Hirers including cast and crew must undergo a venue specific induction relating to fire evacuation and workplace health and safety. A copy of the Brisbane Powerhouse fire evacuation procedure is available on request. It is a requirement of Brisbane Powerhouse that closed shoes be worn on stage for all site inspections, bump in and bump out. All electrical equipment entering the building must carry the appropriate test and tag documentation. Every Hirer must provide Brisbane Powerhouse with appropriate risk assessment documentation before arrival of the client on site. 3 — VENUE LAYOUTS The Underground Theatre is a versatile venue with many configurations. The hire includes the 2venue Mode in A standard mode with a thrust stage surrounded by pit seating and a capacity of 200. The table and diagram below detail the different configurations possible for the venue. Any changes from standard mode will incur a cost of labour to complete the necessary changes. 4 — STAGING INFORMATION BRISBANE POWERHOUSE — UNDERGROUND THEATRE TECH SPEC DOCUMENT Brisbane Powerhouse has a limited supply of staging, rigging and height safety equipment available. Height safety equipment required in each venue is provided as part of the venue hire. Additional rigging equipment is available for hire. Please note all rigging must be installed by a licensed rigger. Brisbane Powerhouse can provide a licensed rigger for a fee if required. Additional staging equipment, including soft blacks, rostra and treads are also available for hire. 4.1 STAGE FLOOR The stage is a sprung timber dance floor. The top deck is 6mm thick Masonite painted with black low sheen Dulux X10. The floor has a 750kg per square meter distributed load. Screwing into surface is permitted but requires assessment and approval. 4.2 RIGGING Grid: 48mm heavy wall steel scaffold pipe, 4.8m to underside of pipe. Loading: 60kg per meter distributed load, 280kg point load at a concrete insert Human Load: Two points suitable for circus rigging Rigging Approvals: All rigging is at the discretion of the Head of Staging and must be approved before you are on site. Once rigged a final inspection will occur before signing off can be completed. 4.3 SOFT GOODS The standard masking in the space consists of the following: Upstage: 6 x gathered blacks – 1.6m wide x 3.3m high (directly in front of the Upstage Pillars on Curtain Track) Between Outer Pillars: 4 x tabs – 6m wide x 2.1m high each for onstage masking covering entries and exits Backstage: 2 x tabs – 6m wide x 3.2m high each for rear stage masking 4.4 EWP AND LADDERS Brisbane Powerhouse has a range of ladders and EWP available. Hirer use of this equipment is at the discretion of Brisbane Powerhouse Technical Services staff and will require an induction in its use. 5 — LIGHTING INFORMATION Lighting patch points are distributed throughout the venue and terminate in a backstage patch/dimmer room fitted with 144 dimmers. The dimmers are patched 1-1. Additional lighting equipment is available for hire. Detailed plans available. PAGE 07 / 11

There is 1 x 24 Channel Analogue Multi Core from Ops position to BOH. NB for Touring Audio Packages If touring a Cat5/6 Multicore. 1 x 75m Cat5/6 Core is needed to connect to stage comfortably from all Mix Positions. 7 — RECORDING OPTIONS AND LIVE STREAMING BRISBANE POWERHOUSE — UNDERGROUND THEATRE TECH SPEC DOCUMENT Brisbane Powerhouse offers a range of Audio Record options. Please contact your Brisbane Powerhouse Production Manager for further details. They must also be notified if you are recording yourself. A broadcast allowance may be applied to certain types of recordings. 7.1 STEREO AUDIO RECORDING Device: 2 x Zoom H5 Input configuration: -Mono, Dual Mono, Stereo + Stereo Zoom H5 Inbuilt Microphone. 7.2 MULTI-TRACK AUDIO RECORDING* For multi-track recoding via Digico Consoles, please contact your Brisbane Powerhouse Production Manager to arrange the hire of a UB MADI (MADI to USB converter).
