Last updated: May 2022 1. Useful information • Visits to Tredegar House are not booked in advance. To visit the formal gardens and mansion house, please purchase your admission ticket or show your National Trust membership card in Visitor Reception. • Entry is free for essential companions or carers. • Most of the site is flat, but the house has steps leading to the entrance. We have a lift available to use. • Mobility scooters and prams are not suitable for the mansion house. We have a limited number of manual wheelchairs for visitors to borrow. • There are no power assisted doors on site. • Light levels in the house are quite low to protect the interiors and collection items. • Mobile phone reception is reasonable across most of the site, but poor in the mansion house. • Assistance dogs are welcome everywhere. There are water bowls available in visitor reception and the Brewhouse café. • We can only store large bags and suitcases at Visitor Reception, so please ask on arrival. 2

Getting here Key information: • Our address is: Tredegar House, Pencarn Way, Newport, NP10 8YW. • We are located just off junction 28 of the M4. • The roundabout at the junction can be confusing, so we suggest using a map or SatNav and checking your route before you leave home. • Do not use our postcode if you’re using a SatNav, instead use our street name ‘Pencarn Way’. This will take you to the roundabout at our entrance. Directions: If you are coming to us from the east: • Leave the M4 at junction 28 and follow signs on the roundabout to the A48(W). • The lanes of the roundabout are marked with road directions. • You will also be able to follow the brown signs that say ‘Tredegar House’, or show mansion house / National Trust icons. • Once you have exited the roundabout, stay in the left-hand lane. • Turn left at the traffic lights. • Take the first exit at the roundabout, which will lead you to our car park. If you are coming to us from the west: • Leave the M4 at junction 28 and stay in the left-hand lane. • Take the left-hand lanes towards the A48(W) / M4(W), going nearly all the way around the roundabout. Leave the roundabout at the exit just before you would re-join the M4. • You will also be able to follow the brown signs that say ‘Tredegar House’ or show mansion house / National Trust icons. • Once you have exited the roundabout, stay in the left-hand lane. • Turn left at the traffic lights. • Take the first exit at the roundabout, which will lead you to our carpark. 3

Car park Key information: • Car park opening times: o March – September, 9am – 5pm o October – February, 9am – 4pm • You are still able to exit the car park after this time. • The car park is ‘pay and display’. Our prices are: o £1 for up to one hour o £2 for up to four hours o £5 for up to 24 hours • The car park is free for Blue Badge holders and National Trust members. 4
Last updated: May 2022 Using the car park: • As you enter the site, the road will guide you to the entrance of our carpark. • The carpark has a single lane entry gate, so please be aware of any cars trying to leave the carpark. • The carpark is tarmacked and mostly even, with pedestrian pavements for the pay and display machines and walkways to the site. • There are 13 blue badge parking spaces and 3 family parking spaces, there is also one electric charging point and a designated coach parking area at the back of the carpark. • The carpark is ‘pay and display’ for all visitors except blue badge holders and National Trust members. • Members must scan their membership card at the pay and display machine. • Please use the pay and display machines in the main car park if you require a parking ticket. Sometimes the machines can develop faults, in which case you can pay for parking at visitor reception. • If the carpark is exceptionally busy (this is usually on school holidays or during big events) there are two overflow parking options available. Our team will direct you to a space. 5

Toilets • There are toilets available next to visitor reception. • There are male, female and accessible toilets here, as well as a baby changing room. • All toilets have automatic hand dryers. • There are alternative toilets in the Brewhouse Café. • Please note that we will be carrying out essential work to the toilets at the Brewhouse Café in the coming months. Alternative facilities, including an accessible toilet, will be available. 6

Visitor Reception • Visitor reception is located directly next to the car park and is marked with clear signs when it is open. • You will need to go to our visitor reception if you are planning to visit the mansion house or formal gardens. • Visitor reception is level to the pavement and has double doors which are kept open during the day. • The floor is made of cement and has an even surface. There are chairs available should you need to sit down. • You may be asked to queue outside. • There is a lower section of the welcome desk which can be used. You can also ask our staff to come over to you. • There are a limited number of manual wheelchairs available to borrow. Please call us in advance to ensure availability. • There is an induction loop available to use. • We have a wellbeing room for visitors to use, should they need a private or quiet space away from others. Please ask our team if you need to use this space. 7

Formal gardens • The entrance to the formal gardens is on the right-hand side of visitor reception. • The gardens have a wide, mostly even path that runs directly to the stable block and orangery. • Some of the gardens have paths that go around the edges of the lawns or through wooded areas. Most of these paths are accessible for wheelchair users, however some of these paths are slightly narrower and more difficult to navigate. • The pathways are hardened and should remain useable in wet weather. 8

Orangery • The orangery and stables are located at the far end of the gardens. • The orangery is accessible by steps or a small ramp. • The ramp is located at an alternative entrance coming from the stables. You can get to it by going through the garden gate on the left of the main doors and following the path around to the right. Please note that the ramp is not currently suitable for mobility scooters or larger wheelchairs. • The inside of the orangery has tiled floor, which is mostly even. 9

Stables • Access to the stables is through a narrow garden gate next to the orangery. • There is an alternative entrance from the cedar garden, which will take you past the house and back around to the opposite side of the stables. This path is cobbled and uneven in places. There is a small ramp to get through one of the gates. • The pathway and floor to the stables is cobbled and a little uneven. • The stable block is at ground level. 10
Last updated: May 2022 9. Mansion house Key information: • Mobility scooters and prams are not suitable for use in the house due to the age of the floors. There is sheltered storage available to keep any items which aren’t suitable for the house. • There are a limited number of manual wheelchairs available for visitors to borrow. Please ask our team if you would like to borrow one. If you are unable to transfer into a wheelchair, please talk to a member of the team. • The house has low levels of lighting to protect collection items. Some areas may have quiet music depending on the exhibitions taking place. • There is large print, bilingual information available to read about the house’s history. • There is seating available throughout the house, with a mixture of arms, no arms, and back rests. 11
Last updated: May 2022 Visiting the house: • The mansion house is set slightly higher than ground level and has six steps to enter. • There is a lift for wheelchairs which our team will manually operate if needed. State Rooms: • The ground floor of the house is fully accessible for wheelchair users. Below Stairs: • The Below Stairs rooms are accessible by steps with a handrail. • The steps can be avoided by using the external back door of the house. Our team can help you find your way. • The Servant’s Hall has a small ramp. • The Still Room is down some short steps, but it can be easily viewed from the doorway. Bedrooms: • The upstairs bedrooms cannot be accessed by wheelchair due to the age of the house. • The bedrooms have a narrow route which runs through each room in a one- way system. • Both sets of stairs have handrails. 12

Home farm • The home farm area is free to access. • Opening times: o October – March, 9am – 4pm. o April – September, 9am – 5pm. • The home farm area includes the café, second-hand bookshop and park entrance. Details for these areas are the following sections. • The ground is on a slight incline and is mostly tarmac, aside from a small section of cobbles near the back of the mansion house. 13
Last updated: May 2022 11. Brewhouse café The Brewhouse café serves a variety of refreshments including sandwiches, hot food, cakes and drinks. Key information: • There is an induction loop available. • Opening times: o April - September, 10am – 5pm (daily) Last orders: 4.50pm o October - March, 10am – 4pm (daily) Last orders: 3.50pm Ordering: • Please find a table and order at the counter. • Our team will bring your food to your table. • If you need assistance, our team will be happy to help by taking your order at your table and bringing your order to you. Layout: • The café has three entrances; two at the front facing the entrance to home farm which have a couple of steps, and one on the right-hand side which has a ramp. • There is a 750mm distance between the floor and the bottom of tables. • There is a walkway of 1200mm wide between the tables. • There is outdoor seating available at the front of the café. The ground here has chunky gravel which may be difficult for those who struggle to walk. 14

Second-hand bookshop • The opening times may vary as the shop is run by volunteers. • The second-hand bookshop is located in the home farm area, behind the smaller barn on the right-hand side. • When it is open, there will be a sign in the main home farm walkway. • There are two parts of the second-hand bookshop. • One section is slightly higher than ground level and has two steps at the doorway. • The other section is at ground level and accessible by wheelchair. • If you need assistance, our team will be happy to help you. • The outside area is cobbled ground which is uneven and can be slippery in wet weather. 15

Parkland Key information: • The parkland is free for everyone to use. • The parkland is open from dawn to dusk: o In April - September, this will be approximately 9am – 5pm. o In October - March, this will be approximately 9am – 4pm. • There is a 24-hour pedestrian exit on the slip road from the car park. • Vehicles are not permitted in the parkland unless authorised by our team. Visiting the parkland: • There are two pedestrian entrances to the park. o As you look at the property from the carpark, one of entrances is on the left-hand side and is signposted as the entrance to the Caravan Club. This exit is open 24-hours a day. o The other is on the right-hand side, at the end of the home farm area. Its opening times are: October – March, 9am – 4pm April – September, 9am – 5pm • Accessibility of the park varies dependent on the weather. During winter or wet weather, some of the paths are often very muddy and soft. • There is one main path that goes around the main property. o This path is made from tarmac and gravel and will always be accessible unless there has been flooding. • A second path goes around the edge of the lake and into the woodland. o The first half of this path is mainly gravel and wide enough for wheelchairs, mobility scooters and prams. o As it reaches the far end of the park, the path becomes smaller and more uneven. It is likely that there will be some disrupted areas during wet weather. o This path joins the main parkland near the gatehouses at the far side of the park. o The path that follows the line of cedar trees is wide and gravelled, and will usually be completely accessible, weather permitting. 16
