Day 2: Sunday, July 29, 2018 Individual arrival at Zurich, Switzerland International Airport. After a short train ride to Zurich main train station, a direct SBB train will bring you to Chur (train tickets are included). Our 4-star hotel is located directly in front of the train station. Chur is the oldest city in Switzerland and the main starting point of all express trains of the Rhaetian Railway. Those arriving early will have several options for train excursions on the Rhaetian Railway. Your RhB Graubünden Pass offers unlimited travel on the Graubünden railway network. 3 overnights Chur, Switzerland (Welcome Dinner) Day 3: Monday, July 30, 2018 After a breakfast buffet, we depart by RhB train to Landquart, home of the Rhaetian Railway maintenance facilities. The managing director of the Rhaetian Railway will give a special welcome to our group before we explore the maintenance facilities on a VIP guided tour. A special display will give us a preview of many LGB prototypes. In the afternoon, several options for train excursions on the Rhaetian Railway will be offered. Overnight Chur (Breakfast) Day 4: Tuesday, July 31, 2018 This morning, we will take an RhB train pulled by a special locomotive to the small mountain town of Bergün, where we will visit the Albula train museum. The museum hosts a collection of more than 1000 objects relating to the Rhaetian Railway. Next, we continue by train to the town of Preda; the section between the towns of Bergün and Preda is one of the most spectacular train stretches in the world and a UNESCO Herita- ge Site. The route conquers an altitude of 1360 feet crossing over breathtaking tunnels and viaducts. Later, we will enjoy an exclusive guided tour of the new Albula Tunnel 2 in Preda. A special Märklin / LGB representative will join in on the fun today! Overnight Chur (Breakfast) Day 5: Wednesday, August 1, 2018 Today, we travel on board a special chartered “Rhätia Pullman Express Train”, pulled by the famous RhB crocodile from Chur to Tiefencastel. A famous yellow post bus will then take us to the Filisur station, where we will walk to a platform for a breathtaking view of the spectacular Landwasser Viaduct, the landmark of the Albula rail. Get your cameras ready, our train the “Rhätia Pullman Express Train”, will slowly pass over the Landwasser Viaduct! After ample time for taking pictures, we will walk back to the Filisur train station with free time for lunch. In the afternoon, we board once again the “Rhätia Pullman Express train” and depart via Bergün, Preda and the Albula tunnel to the town of Samedan near St. Moritz, located in the heart of the Upper Engadine and main hub of the Rhaetian Railway. After arrival in Samedan, we will enjoy a guided tour of the RhB maintenance facilities, home of historic rolling stock of the “historic RhB” - Bündner culture railway. 2 overnights Samedan (Breakfast, Dinner) Page 1/3
Train Adventure Rhaetian Railway July 28 - August 6, 2018 Day 6: Thursday, August 2, 2018 This morning, we will take a round trip excursion on board our chartered nostalgic Bernina rail cars from Pontresina via Cavaglia (glacier garden) to Alp Grüm. The station of Alp Grüm at an altitude of 6,860 feet is an unrivaled viewpoint and is one of the most photographed railway stations in Switzerland. After lunch, we board once again our chartered nostalgic Bernina rail cars for the return journey to Pontresina. Upon arrival, we will have a guided tour of the locomotive depot of the RhB and get a chance to see the famous Xrot 9213 steam-powered rotary snow plow. It is the world‘s only steam-powered snow blower still in operation, dating back to 1910. Late afternoon and evening you will have free time to visit famous St. Moritz at your leisure. Overnight Samedan (Breakfast) Day 7: Friday, August 3, 2018 Today, we have chartered another RhB train, hauled by a special locomotive, pulling an open panoramic car, a 1st class passenger car, and a Gourmino dining car. We will travel along the Albula line from Samedan to Filisur and then along the Davos-Filisur railway line to the train station “Wiesen”. Here, we have the great opportunity to disembark and photograph our chartered train as it slowly passes over the famous Wiesener Viaduct. Afterwards, we board once again our chartered train for Davos, an Alpine summer resort. Davos is the highest „town“ in Europe and known for hosting the World Economic Forum (WEF). In Davos, we will take a cable car up to the summit of the Jakobshorn at 11,680 feet for lunch. The summit offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding peaks over 9,800 feet. In the late afternoon, we board our chartered RhB train back to Chur. 2 overnights Chur (Breakfast) Day 8: Saturday, August 4, 2018 Aboard the Arosa Express train, we will conquer a height difference of more than 3200 ft. The route passes over the famous Langwieser Viaduct, which was once the only via- duct built of this size constructed entirely out of ferroconcrete. The train glides almost 200 feet above the River Plessur and reaches after 15 miles, the beautiful health resort town of Arosa. This Swiss mountain village offers a lot, for example, the Bergkirchli built in the 15th century, which has an 18th-century organ. The Schanfigger local heritage museum is known to be one of the oldest houses in Arosa. It was built in the 16th century and converted into a museum in 1949. No matter where you walk or eat lunch the town offers wonderful views of the breathtaking mountains. Overnight Chur (Breakfast, Dinner) Day 9: Sunday, August 5, 2018 After breakfast, we depart by SBB train to Zurich. En route, we will take a cruise on Lake Zurich. Afterwards, we will discover the highlights of Zurich on a guided city tour to include the famous Bahnhofstraße, the Limmat dock including the old town, Europe’s biggest clock face at St. Peter’s Church, the patriarchic guild houses, and the Frauenmünster Church with its famous Chagall-windows. 1 overnight Zurich Airport (Breakfast) Day 10: Monday, August 6, 2018 After breakfast, individual departure to board your flight home.
