La Fontaine Academic Year 2020 / 2021 Issue number 36 Nouvelles Friday 9th July 2021 Dear Parents and Carers, It’s been quite the whirlwind of a week: there’s so much going on! The big event for everyone has been Sports Day. There were some doubts as to how much fun a bubble restricted Sports Day could be, but I’m thrilled to be able to report that everyone had a marvellous time! There were lots of events, both team sports and individual races, with children competing for the glory of their House Team. I would like to say a HUGE thank you and well done to Mr Warner and Mme O’Connor who put in so much effort to ensure that the children had a wonderful time. The detail that went into planning was stunning, my personal favourite being the water relay race, as each team had a bucket of water that had been dyed to match the colour of each House in the race! Stunning. I would also like to say congratulations to all of you with children in the orange team, as orange t-shirts are not easy to come by (those of you with children in red or blue house want to consider yourselves lucky!). Mme Diacos has already sourced a supplier of reasonably priced t-shirts for next year to help out with the trickier colours for Sports Day… We’ll have lot of photos, as well as results, in the newsletter next week! Year 6 have also been having a pretty epic time. As well as many hours of rehearsal for their upcoming production (not to mention the hours that have gone into making props and scenery), they have had their ‘fun day’ today. In case you haven’t seen the understated inflatables on the field today, I’ve included some pictures. If you look closely, you’ll see Mme Diacos in front of the inflatables so you can get a sense of how big they really are! Thanks to all of you that supported the Year 6 popcorn and ice cream fundraisers each Friday which went towards paying for this - it’s much appreciated. Huge thanks also to the Y6 parents that gave up a lot of their time to organise the fundraising and Mr Shell for lugging popcorn machines, generators, petrol and allsorts of other things to the playground and field to support our Y6! The big question that everyone wants the answer to: classes and teachers for next year. The children have all completed their forms, telling us who will make them smile in their class, and the teachers are busy compiling class lists. The children will find out who is in their class, and who their teacher is, on Monday 19th July. On the same day, the children will also be able to spend some time with their new class and teacher, in their new classrooms, so I’m sure that will be a very exciting day! I hope you all have a fabulous and restful weekend. I heard there’s something worth watching on Sunday, but I can’t remember what that is. I have no doubt everyone will be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed first thing on Monday morning. See you then! Mr Tirrell. We want to remind all parents and carers that the NHS recommends that people ‘stay off school or work until you've not been sick or had diarrhoea for at least 2 days.’ More information can be found here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/ diarrhoea-and-vomiting/ Further guidance on ‘Is my child too ill for school?’ can be found here: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-body/is-my-child-too-ill-for-school/ Our purposeful, knowledge-rich curriculum delivers academic excellence and prepares our children to be the transformational leaders of the future. 2

La Fontaine Academic Year 2020 / 2021 Issue number 36 Nouvelles Friday 9th July 2021 Camping photos Camping What a fabulous camping trip! It’s been a few years since this has been possible, but it’s safe to say this tradition is back! The weather may not have been ideal all of the time, but that didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits and the children have been talking about what a wonderful time they all had. Mr Tirrell and his husband also loved their visit (particularly the food and drinks they were treated to on the way round!). Massive congratulations and thank you to Laura for such fantastic organising of this wonderful event, which is not an easy job to get right! Get your tents ready for next year...
