Spotlight on Pima Alumnus Meet Bradley Schlottman. The first year Bradley Schlottman attended the University of Arizona, it didn’t go as planned. So, he took some time off and worked a few odd jobs. That didn’t work out either. Schlottman attended the UA his freshman year as a business major, following in the footsteps of his parents, who are both alumni. ―I was at UA my whole freshman year, but during my second semester, I realized business wasn’t for me,‖ Schlottman said. ―After leaving school for a semester, I decided to go to Pima and work my way through my general education courses. Now, I’m back at UA.‖ Schlottman earned an Associate of Science while attending Pima Community College from the spring of 2014 to the fall of 2017. He’s now in his first semester as a junior at the UA, and it’s going much better the second time around. He’s not as overwhelmed by the big university and is clearer about what he wants to study, thanks in part to professors he met at Pima. ―My environmental biology professor Duke Schoonmaker and chemistry professor Dr. Lonnie Burke are passionate and supportive of students. They bring energy and openness to the classroom,‖ Schlottman said. ―Students can ask them questions about the class or about their education in general. They helped me solidify my passion for science.‖
His experience at Pima allowed Schlottman to explore his interests and decide what he wants to study. He connected his love of the outdoors and passion for the environment with a desire to pursue an environmental science major in the UA College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Schlottman currently works for an advisor in the Department of Soil, Water and Environmental Science and is involved in the Students for Sustainability; Soil, Water and Environmental Science, and MycoCats clubs on campus. ―The biggest reason I enjoy the UA is that there are so many extracurricular activities and opportunities for students to make a difference and learn outside the classroom,‖ he said. ―If you have the opportunity to come to the UA and you have a strong head on your shoulders and can focus, do it. But, if you’re still exploring and unsure, start at a community college. It helped me grow a lot.‖ Transfer Tips & Tools Explore Transfer Pathways through AZTransfer.com.
