GOLFING Golf & Country Clubs 27 INNISFAIL GOLF CLUB The Innisfail Golf Club is a 27-hole golf facility that offers a challenging and premier golf experience for golfers of all ages and abilities. The Golf Club offers a number of amenities, including a driving range, full-service clubhouse, fully stocked pro shop that includes club rentals and repairs, as well as DIVOTS Restaurant to refuel and recharge. Open all year round, DIVOTS offers daily food and beverage specials, with beautiful views from the patio. 25 BOWDEN HI-WAY GOLF COURSE Just off the Queen Elizabeth II Highway (QE2) is Bowden Hi-Way Golf Course, a nine- hole gem that is just waiting to be discovered. At 3,200 yards, there is more course here than can be seen passing by. Wide, inviting fairways accommodate every player, and the tricky greens will put your putting skills to the test. ACTIVITIES Activities 1 DISCOVERY WILDLIFE PARK Discovery Wildlife Park provides permanent homes for orphans that cannot be released back into the wild, as well as exotic pets that have been kept illegally. These animals are in crisis! Many would have been euthanized if we could not give them a home. We believe that conservation begins with educating people. By providing daily animal presentations, we give visitors an animal experience that helps them develop a passion for conservation. We offer photos with our bears, walks with our wolves and behind the scenes tours with the big cats. Extend your animal experience with us this year by camping in our new campground! Located around our fully stocked trout pond, each site offers 30 or 50 amp power – we have showers and washrooms available too! If you don’t have an RV, we do rent RVs and cabins, too. Evening animal encounters may be booked in advance; check out our website for more information. Don’t forget our annual ZooFest and Public Market on Aug 4, 2018. Free kids bounce rides and face-painting. Our market has lots to offer all ages! 7 Activities INNISFAIL PRO RODEO ASSOCIATION At this fun family event, you will see the toughest cowboys and cowgirls competing, as well as the best bucking stock in Canada. The beer gardens will be open and there will be bands playing both Friday and Saturday evenings. Our centre near Innisfail offers a variety of programs. Public demonstrations are conducted every Wednesday afternoon between Victoria Day and Labour Day. The gates open at 1:30 p.m., with the demonstration starting at 2 p.m. The demonstration lasts approximately 45 minutes and is free of charge. 12 BOWDEN PIONEER MUSEUM If you’re visiting Bowden or Central Alberta, consider dropping by the Bowden Pioneer Museum! The Bowden Pioneer Museum is dedicated to preserving local history and sharing it with all who visit. Guided tours are free with admission and are always available while the museum is open. It’s well worth the stop, and some of our artifacts might just surprise you! Continue straight until 19 Avenue, and you will see the museum ahead of you. 2201 19 Ave., Bowden, AB www.bowdenpioneermuseum.com 403-224-2122 13 Museums Museums DANISH CANADIAN MUSEUM Dedicated to telling the Danish-Canadian Immigrant story – a true saga that stretches over centuries and across continents - of Viking explorers, pioneering immigrants, their descendants, and more recent immigrants who have become well-woven into the fabric of Canadian society. The museum features an authentic Viking Ship and the Children’s Garden of Imagination – featuring H.C. Andersen fairytale story boards, historic buildings, and beautifully-tended flower gardens. The main museum structure is a 1933 school dormitory that houses five exhibit rooms, the Saga Café (licensed) and gift shop. 14 DICKSON STORE MUSEUM Relive shopping and living in the 1930s at this unique museum built in 1909. The experience begins immediately when you are hit with the pungent odour of cheese and smell of fresh ground coffee. End with a delicious ice cream or old-fashioned candy. Double Tree Village Museum has 25 businesses and homes for you to visit, including everything from a church to a teepee and everything in between. Our miniature horses are always looking for visitors, and a Belgian team can take you on a hayride to explore the pioneer way of life. Our annual Wild Rose Draft Horse Field and Pioneer Days are held on the first full weekend in June. Everyone is welcome, including schools, families and groups. 16 STEPHANSSON HOUSE PROVINCIAL HISTORIC SITE Restored to its 1927 appearance, Stephansson House offers a look at Alberta Icelandic heritage and the life of pioneer poet Stephan G. Stephansson and his family. Costumed guides provide interpretive house tours, demonstrations, pioneer crafts, curriculum-based education programs and special activities. OPEN: May 15 through Labour Day, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., seven days a week. DIRECTIONS: Located approximately 30 minutes west of Red Deer and seven kilometres north of Markerville, the site is situated on Township Road 371, west of Range Road 22. The Creamery Museum is housed in the original historic building, built in 1902, and offers guided tours of commercial butter production set in 1932. Afterwards, relax in the courtyard, enjoy Icelandic delights or your favourite ice cream. Explore the hamlet on an interpretive historic walk of the business sector, discover more historic sites and enjoy the beautiful gardens. You’ll agree this is Central Alberta’s hidden gem! FARMS Family Farms 24 THE JUNGLE FARM The Jungle Farm was homesteaded in 1897. Today our farm is busy and open to the public, starting in May with greenhouses full of flowers, vegetable transplants, lily bulbs, herbs, annuals and perennials. July and August is the time to come and pick your own strawberries, saskatoons, raspberries and vegetables. September and October is full of family memory-making activities like a corn maze, farm animals, strawberry mountain, wagon rides and more. We focus on having high-quality fruits and vegetables, baking and preserves made and grown right on our farm. The Jungle Farm is a place for education for your school class, sports team, Red Hatters, senior group or youth program. If you would like a unique birthday party or corporate picnic spot, consider our farm for these events! 22 NIXON HONEY FARM We are a family owned and operated company with a commitment to sustainability, food safety, traceability, and affordability. Nixon Honey has grown into one of the larger honeybee farms in Alberta and Canada. We are a large supplier of honeybees to the hybrid canola seed production industry in Southern Alberta, and also offer these pollination services to local fruit and vegetable producers.
