That same Sunday School (Outside) power is among us as our regathering and reconnecting continues Sunday @ 11:15 a.m. apace. The results of our recent parish survey indicate a strong interest in being able to worship inside our building. • June 6th On June 6, we will celebrate our 10:00 a.m. service inside the Nave for the first time since March, 2020. We are now permitted to sing inside the building, and we can also resume Coffee Hour and other indoor activities. In order to make these events happen, however, we will continue to need your assistance. Whether you are interested in being an usher, greeter, worship leader, assisting with fellowship, or feel a calling to some other ministry, there is a place and a need for your time and talents at St. Andrew’s. Please contact us at worship@standrews.net if you feel called to serve. We look forward to more opportunities to worship, love and serve our neighbors, One Together. PRESCHOOL NEWS PRESCHOOL DIRECTOR TAMI PHILLIPS preschool@standrews.net | (703) 455-8458 As we close out this year of preschool, I just want to say thank you to the church staff, preschool staff, preschool board, vestry, parishioners, and leadership of Will and Colleen. Your encouragement has been overwhelming. It has allowed us to carry out the ministry we were called to do. This pandemic preschool experiment is coming to a close. While it has been difficult at times, it has been refreshing to look at things differently. Our staff had to think outside the box and then think outside the box again! Thank you for your support, love, and prayers! The Net OUTREACH ECHO Jewell Gould & Jonathan Withington | outreach@standrews.net You can help ECHO with a couple of clicks! In addition to assistance with food and housing costs, ECHO currently helps families with children by providing children's clothing and hygiene supplies. ECHO needs donations of baby diapers, feminine hygiene products, specific kinds of baby formula, children's and teen clothing, especially pajamas, sneakers, shorts, and hoodies. ECHO maintains a wish-list on the Amazon.com. Locating the wish list on the Amazon site is challenging, so we suggest starting at ECHO's homepage at www.echo-inc.org and clicking on the link to Amazon. Thank You Andrea Hellier | outreach@standrews.net Thank you, St. Andrew’s parishioners, for your support. ECHO’s Treats for Mom was a huge success. Two hundred beautiful bags were delivered to ECHO for mothers using ECHO services this month. The Net ANNOUNCEMENTS Re-Gathering Update Will Packard | will@standrews.net As of May 28, 2021, Governor Northam’s 7th Amended Executive Order 72 is relaxed and the Diocese of Virginia has relaxed most pastoral directives with the pandemic. Two remaining requirements are to refrain from the Common Cup at Communion and to wear masks with those who are unvaccinated in pastoral care visitation settings. We are beginning to see most social distancing and masks requirements dropped or relaxed except for in some settings such as public transit and healthcare facilities. We have a strong vestry and a regathering team which has been discussing and planning our return to indoor, in-person worship. On June 5/6, we look forward to holding indoor services for all three services! For the time being, please know that we are looking to walk the middle road and keeping in mind our worship services will not require vaccination to attend. Please note the following for our indoor worship and we invite you to come with these considerations in mind: • Masks will be required for now for those 2 and older following the CDC recommendation that masks be worn in congregate settings. • We will follow social distancing and limit attendance for a period. • Eucharist will be given in one kind (bread) and we receive the fullness of the Eucharist in one kind. • Singing is permitted! • Hymnals, Prayer Books, and Bibles are in the Pews. • We will sanitize the space between worship services. • Children are welcome at all services. Our childcare staff will return June 13. • We will have a traffic pattern flow for entering and exiting the building. • Stay tuned for coffee hour and fellowship opportunities. • You may sit in small groups of others who are vaccinated or who are in your “pod.” • Please be patient and continue to listen for further updates, especially as health metrics improve. Currently, Fairfax County’s transmission rate is 2.5 per 100,000 people and our surrounding vicinities are at comparably low rates of transmission. We do not let our guard down entirely with this news, but risk levels are very low! We continue to pray for guidance during the pandemic and give thanks for this opportunity to regather in-person. Thank You! Betsy Cotten & Martha Turner | worship@standrews.net Let’s all give a giant thank you and well done to our faithful Acolyte Coordinators, Jess Speaker and Ted Burkhalter. The Speaker’s and the Burkhalter’s are moving out of the area and we are sad to say farewell. We wish them God’s blessing as they journey to new places and new ministries. St. Andrew’s Endowment Fund Pete Kirkham | endowment@standrews.net “People have made at least a start at understanding the meaning of life when they plant trees under which they know full well they will never sit.” -theologian D. Elton Trueblood All of us, in different ways, hope to make an enduring positive impact upon our church family, our community, and even the world. We must decide how best to leverage our time and treasure, and it can be challenging to think long-term. What action can we take today – what seeds can we plant – that will benefit generations to come? St. Andrew’s Endowment Fund provides an opportunity for you to make a lasting impact on the future of the congregation. Your giving can be directed to support overall operations, or be targeted to fund area(s) that interest you, be it bolstering outreach, enriching worship and music, improving our facilities, or to an area that you specify. Gifts can be made during one’s lifetime, or through a planned gift, such as a bequest in a will or as a memorial to honor a friend or relative. The gift you give today can truly make an impact that will last for decades. Reflect upon all that St. Andrew’s gives to you, and consider planting a tree that will not only bear fruit now but for generations to come. For more information contact Pete Kirkham, Endowment Board Chairman, members, Alice Redman, David Nies, JR Robinson, and Pam Rozelsky. 4 | June 2021 St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church

S. “Suresh” Sureshkumar Will Packard | will@standrews.net With our increased technological abilities, we welcome, all the way from Sri Lanka, the Reverend S. Sureshkumar. Fr. Suresh, recently at the Virginia Theological Seminary working on his doctorate, is a professor and lecturer of New Testament at The Theological College of Lanka, and serves as priest associate at the Church of Ceyloy in the Diocese of Colombo. We will be able to hear him preach in the sanctuary and online and are grateful for this opportunity. As you may have read in the news, this area of the world is hitting a hard third wave of Covid-19. Hospitals are full, supplies are short, and food is often not available. The plate offering for Sunday, June 13th, will go towards those in need in Sri Lanka which may include seminarians, a remote farming community hit particularly hard, and others in particular need. You may donate with “Suresh” in the memo line, give online and designate “plate” on the weekend of June 12/13, or put money not marked as pledge in the offertory plates which will be outside the sanctuary during those services. Please join us as we welcome Suresh! St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church June 2021 | 5
