THE TRINITY HERALD notes and news from Trinity Lutheran Church and School 8781 Brunswick Road, Minocqua, WI 54548 715-356-2255 www.trinityminocqua.org trinity@trinityminocqua.org Our mission at Trinity Lutheran Church is to teach the Word of God, to train believers for lives of Christian service, and to tell the good news of Jesus Christ to the Northwoods community and to the world. EXTRAORDINARY JOY FOR ORDINARY DAYS Everyone is looking for it. Everyone is pursuing it. It’s even mentioned in the Declaration of Independence: “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” Happiness. Bliss. Delight. Ecstasy. Joy. Glee. Pleasure. Gladness. Cheerfulness. (Can you tell I like synonyms?) Find it yet? Happiness and joy, that is. If you find it, can you hold on to it? Too many look for joy in a place, a pill, a person, a position, profit or pride. None of these provide lasting joy. There is a difference between happiness and joy. Happiness depends on circumstances. Happiness is a graduation, a wedding day. Happiness is a Starbucks gift card. Happiness is a Green Bay Packers’ push for a Super Bowl title…next year. When the gift card is spent, happiness is gone. When graduation is over, it’s on to the next thing, the next event, the next stage in life. Happiness is fleeting, temporary. Joy, on the other hand, is different. Joy is better. True Christian joy, joy in Jesus, is deep-rooted, long-lasting. Can you find joy in church? If you’re looking for the right Person, then you can find joy – joy in Jesus. Thanks to Easter morning’s empty tomb, we find lasting joy in the risen Christ! Can you find joy in a jail cell? Paul did, in his letter to the Philippians. On Easter Sunday, we’ll begin a seven week journey of joy through God’s amazing Word in Philippians. Find extraordinary joy for ordinary days in the risen Christ! A sampling of joy to be found in this letter: “I thank my God every time I remember you. Every time I pray for all of you, I always pray with joy, because of your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now. I am convinced of this very thing: that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (1:3-6) “Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. It is no trouble for me to write the same things again to you, and it is a safeguard for you.” (Philippians 3:1,2) “Rejoice in the Lord always! I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near.” (Philippians 4:4,5) See you at Easter’s empty tomb and in the weeks that follow! Rejoice! He lives!
