APS/CNM/ATF Special Education Teacher Training (SETT), Alternative Teacher Licensure Certification Program The mission of the Teacher Licensure Program is to transform the educational landscape of New Mexico so that students and teachers embrace creative, curious and critical thinking, and collaborative problem solving. The TLP is a competency-based, professional program that prepares teachers to address educational inequalities through the design of cohesive, rigorous curriculum and assessment, and meaningful instruction. TLP graduates value and support student diversity and individual student needs by enhancing college, career, and life aspirations.

APS/CNM/ATF SETT Program
The SETT Program is a post-baccalaureate program for students interested in obtaining a New Mexico Special Education (PreK-12) teaching license with a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) endorsement. ·Teacher Candidates receive 1st year teacher salary and benefits from APS ($41,000 base salary) · 1 semester of co-teaching with an experienced Special Education Lead Teacher · 2 years of ongoing support · All tuition costs covered (Licensure + TESOL endorsement courses)
The SETT Program was created to address a critical shortage of Special Education teachers in APS. A goal of the Program is to provide layers of professional and academic supports to improve the retention of special education teachers in APS.
Individuals who: - Have an earned bachelor’s degree or higher - Are NM residents & legally authorized to work in the U.S. (https://www.cnm.edu/depts/enrollment/tuition-rates-and-residency/basic- residency-requirements) - Can pass APS & NMPED background checks - Have passed the PRAXIS Core Skills exams - Do not have a current K-12 special education teaching license - Value and want feedback and support while learning to teach - Commit to teach for APS for 3 years
• February 15, 2022: Application Deadline (ww.cnm.edu/SETT) • May –August 2022: Start CNM coursework (3 courses, 9 credit hours) on Wednesday & Thursday evenings (competency-based) • Summer 2022: APS Hiring Process • August-December 2022: • Start co-teaching with APS Lead Teacher (LT) • Continue CNM coursework (3 courses, 9 credit hours) on Thursdays (release day from APS) • January-May 2023: • Assume responsibility for your own APS classroom w/continued LT support • Complete CNM licensure coursework (1 course, 3 credit hours) • Summer 2023: Complete TESOL Courses (2 courses, 6 credit hours)

• Summer 2022: • Matched with an APS Lead Teacher for a fall co-teaching placement (we honor, to the extent possible, preferences for age/grade/location) • Complete the APS hiring process including a background check • Complete the NMPED licensure application process including a background check • Fall 2022: • Starting in about October, start searching for an APS placement for a January start • Ideal: Teacher Candidates can remain at their fall school • If that is not possible, work with Mary & HR to locate a position • January 2023: • Assume a position as Teacher of Record in your own classroom

• Become a CNM student • Official Transcripts • Register for/take/pass PRAXIS Exams • Apply to the SETT Program • Participate in an interview with Kelley & Mary
Complete the CNM Admission Process (cnm.edu/registration) Transfer Student or Readmission Non-Degree ATL Program is a locked major: we will change it upon acceptance. Do not change your major when you are in the program. Provide your previous degree information & transcripts Obtain student ID number and CNM e-mail address You will receive a CNM student ID number or password at the end of your application. Print the page or save your ID number somewhere safe Complete online New Student Orientation in myCNM You do not need to meet with an advisor You do not need to take Accuplacer exam
Official transcripts will be required by: • NMPED for licensure application. • Employment with a school district • CNM ATL Program _____________________ 3 copies minimum (recommended) Transcript Analysis portion of application must be completed to the best of your abilities. Any coursework noted on this portion of the application must be supported by official transcripts on file at the CNM Records department
Submit official transcripts to CNM Records Official transcripts must be on file at CNM Records Office in order for your application to be reviewed Transcripts can take up to 2 weeks to process The Records Office will contact you via your @cnm.edu account once transcripts have been received. Disregard CNM’s evaluation of previous coursework. The ATL program requires that students submit a Transfer Analysis as part of the application. Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by an accredited organization. NACES (naces.org) is an association of private foreign educational credential evaluation services. We recommend requesting a course by course and degree evaluation.
Communication within CNM and the Teacher Licensure Program is conducted primarily through e-mail and students must use their CNM e-mail address during the application and their time enrolled in the Program. FERPA guidelines indicate you MUST email from your @cnm.edu account if you are a current CNM student. All candidates must successfully pass these Teacher Assessment tests prior to acceptance into the Program Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Core Academic Skills for Educators: Reading (5713) Core Academic Skills for Educators: Writing (5723) Core Academic Skills for Educators (5733) Combined Test (All 3): (5752)* - Please note CNM as a reporting school for faster receipt of scores - Official scores may take 1 to 3 weeks to appear on an institutional score report. - May submit “unofficial score reports” - Examinees may retake a test or subtest. *You must wait 30 days before re-testing. - GPA of 3.0 on highest degree earned (additional requirements for a lower GPA may be required)

SETT Program Acceptance Process
After your interview (in March 2023), you will be notified of your program status by email within 1 week of the interview (Accepted, Wait List, Not Accepted) If accepted, you will also receive a Letter of Acceptance to CNM and a SETT Program contract. Both must be signed and returned to secure your spot in the program.
If accepted (instructions will be provided): Complete a FAFSA Complete an application for an Alternative Level 1 license from the NM Public Education Department Complete an APS job application Complete the WIOA process for funding Complete an FBI background check with APS Human Resources & NMPED

Praxis Core: $150 for 3 subtests NMPED Fingerprint/Background Check process fee: $44 NMPED Licensure Fees Licensure application process fee: $150 Additional PRAXIS Testing (TESOL, Special Ed Content, Principles of Learning & Teaching, Content Area Exams): Plan for approximately $120/test. https://www.ets.org/praxis/about/fees/ Textbooks: $100-$200 per term Additional Coursework (Language, content area): $250/ 3-credit course All fees are subject to change
