Delta Variant Increase • Increased incidence in Middlesex-London, presumed to soon to be the dominant strain in our region • To ensure maximum protection against COVID-19 and the Delta variant, Ontarians should should complete their vaccination series as soon as they can • PHAC has noted the following about the Delta variant; • Transmissibility is high • Disease severity is unknown • Immunity and re-infection in convalescent patients is low • Vaccine effectiveness is moderate and better after a completed series, and • Surveillance programs have a moderate risk of not detecting cases.
Increased Vaccine Supplies • Largest shipment ever arriving for London- Middlesex this weekend – 42 882 doses Moderna • In addition to: – 19 000 Moderna last week – 25 000 Pfizer this week – 38 000 Moderna this week
Vaccine Interchangeability • MLHU is receiving a very large shipment of vaccine next week and has opened accelerated second dose appointments for all adults who received their first dose on or before May 30th. This means that in order to get as many people vaccinated as soon as possible, any available mRNA vaccine will be used to fulfill second doses, regardless of what someone received for their first dose. • Interchangeability is an important component of delivering more vaccine to more people as quickly as possible!
COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility: Second dose schedule • Shortened interval guidance for MLHU region: o NEW – ALL individuals who received a first dose of an mRNA vaccine are now eligible to re-book their second dose appointment at the 28-day shortened interval o All individuals who received a first dose of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine are eligible to re-book their second dose appointment at the 8-12week shortened interval • Please Note: Individuals will NOT be permitted to receive a second dose at a shorter interval than the minimum intervals noted above. • If they book their appointment before the minimal interval has elapsed between doses, they will be refused the second dose at the clinic and need to re-book their second dose appointment

Now available through the online booking system: • Re-booking scheduled second doses (Gate 4) • Received first dose elsewhere and want to book a second dose through MLHU mass vax (Gate 5) • Cancel previously-scheduled second dose (Gate 6) • Community pop-up clinics, June 21 to July 6 (Gate 7)
Cancelling a Second Dose Appointment If you booked only one appointment with the same contact information: • Go to covidvaccinelm.ca, Gate 6: Option 1 If you booked multiple appointments with the same contact information: • Email covidcancel@mlhu.on.ca, and provide the following: o First and last name of the person holding the appointment o Email address OR cell phone number used to book the appointment o Date, time and location of appointment needing to be cancelled o *Provide this information for each person/appointment being cancelled • Call Vaccine Cancellation Line: 519-963-4136
School-based COVID-19 vaccination pop-up clinics • MLHU continues to host school-based Pop-Up Community Clinics o Hosted at select London and Middlesex County schools o Walk-in appointments available o Primarily for residents of the community where the clinics are located and who have faced challenges reaching a mass vaccination clinic. o Clinics offering second doses have been booked at 56-day interval from their first dose o Please Note: Youth can re-book shortened interval second dose at a mass vaccination clinic for 28 days after first dose.
Pop Up COVID-19 vaccination clinics
COVID-19 Vaccine administration errors • The Ministry of Health has developed COVID-19 Vaccine Administration Errors and Deviations Guidance for healthcare providers. • Upon identification of an error, these are the key steps to take; o Inform the vaccine recipient, o Complete Ontario’s AEFI reporting form, if the error results in an AEFI, and send it to the Health Unit, o Determine how the error occurred o In consultation with public health, consider serological testing to assess vaccine-induced immunity in consultation with public health o Report to supervisor/employer, professional body, the Canadian Medication Incident Reporting and Prevention System (CMIRPS), and to the Middlesex-London Health Unit (only if there was an AEFI).
Transportation to vaccination appointment • Accessible Drive-to-Vaccines program from the Ontario Community Support Association. • This program provides door-to-door rides to vaccination sites for people with disabilities, including seniors with mobility issues, who face challenges accessing safe transportation. • To be eligible, individuals must: o Have a vaccine appointment booked for the date they are requesting transportation; o Be a person with a disability, including physical, mental, developmental, learning, mobility, vision, or hearing impairment; and o Have limited or no access to safe and accessible transportation or face barriers to getting to/from a COVID-19 vaccine appointment • Please Note: Individuals must submit their ride request at least 48 hours before their vaccination appointment
Travel Restrictions • Effective July 5, fully vaccinated travellers entering Canada are exempt from quarantine and day 8 test
