students.usask.ca/international ACADEMIC INFORMATION ACADEMIC CALENDAR COURSES Selections can be made from the online Course and Program Catalogue: TERMS Fall Term: usask.ca/programs. Course offerings for the new academic year may not be available Sept. 4 – Dec. 23, 2019 at the time of application. Students are encouraged to view the courses offered by Winter Term: USask after receiving their letter of admission and study plan. Jan. 6 – April 29, 2020 COURSE LOAD A minimum of 9 credit units per term. WEEKS OF One academic term comprises STUDY 13 weeks. A maximum is 15 credit units per term. Exchange students must maintain full-time student status CREDIT USask follows the credit unit (c.u.) system SYSTEM 3 c.u. is a one-term course; a 6 c.u. course is a full academic year. TERM Fall Mid-term break: Nov. 11 – 16, 2019 RESTRICTIONS Students must meet the prerequisite (or equivalents) of the course to be permitted to Christmas break: register. The prerequisites are listed under the course titles in the course catalogue. Dec. 25, 2019 – Jan. 2, 2020 February break: February 17 – 22, 2020 GRADING 90-100% Exceptional 60-69% Satisfactory SYSTEM 80-89% Excellent 50-59% Minimal pass 70-79% Good Below 50% Fail FINAL Fall Term: 3 credit unit courses EXAMS during the December exam period. TRANSCRIPTS To help facilitate transfer credit to the student’s degree, USask will release one Spring Term: 3 credit transcript to the student’s home institution at no cost. All additional transcripts will unit courses during the April cost $10 CDN per copy. Students can order a transcript in the Transcript and Degree exam period. Confirmation channel in PAWS at paws.usask.ca/go/transcripts. Multi-Term: 6 credit unit courses starting in the Fall, during the April exam period. To confirm exact dates, visit usask.ca/calendar LANGUAGE INFORMATION LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION English LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS To be successful at USask, students must be proficient in English—both written and verbal. Although we do not require any official record of English proficiency, the home institution should evaluate students’ English language proficiency prior to nominating them to USask. English language proficiency indicators that we require of our students can be found online at admissions.usask.ca/requirements/english-language-proficiency.php. LANGUAGE FACILITIES Language courses are offered through academic departments if students would like to study a language other than English. At an additional cost to the student, there are also non-credit part-time English language courses offered by the USask Language Centre. students.usask.ca/international IMMIGRATION DOCUMENTS STUDY PERMITS Students wishing to study in Canada for more than six months who are not Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents of Canada must obtain a study permit from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Students who will be studying in Canada for six months or less are not required to apply for a study permit. To learn more, visit cic.gc.ca/english/study. VISITOR VISA Students may need a visitor visa or an eTA to travel to Canada. To learn more, visit OR ELECTRONIC cic.gc.ca/english/visit. TRAVEL Students may need to give their biometrics when applying for a study AUTHORIZATION permit depending on their nationality.
