OUR MISSION Unlocking human potential. Our Goal is to elevate the lives of those with special needs, and help them integrate with the greater community. Our New Campus is designed to be a safe and inspirational place where people with special needs will engage with others to develop life skills, interpersonal relations, personal interests, and training in vocations and careers. 3
OUR STORY Transforming lives, one friendship at a time. The Friendship Foundation was founded 15 years ago by Rabbi Yossi Mintz and the Jewish Community Center Chabad of the South Bay with the goal of providing children with special needs the same advantages as their peers to enjoy and experience life. We developed programs that allow children with and without special needs to play, grow, develop and thrive together. The success and growing demand we’ve seen have expanded our vision to include our innovative new campus, a facility centered around turning special needs into special contributions to society. 5
THE NEED 178,511 students are enrolled in special education in Los Angeles County. 75% of high school graduates with disabilities don’t meet 4-year college admittance requirements. 8 IN 10 Americans with disabilities are unemployed. The need is clear. Our inclusive campus will provide vocational training and job placement, and allow these students to transform the workforce and society. *According to 2017-2018 CDC and EdData estimates. 7
OUR IMPACT What started with just eight children and 22 volunteers has grown to serve: 10 School Districts 40 School Clubs 56 Enrichment Programs 2,000+ Students Per Year 100,000 Participants In the Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk since 2011 The children who joined us 15 years ago have become young adults and are now asking for help finding gainful employment, purpose and ways to contribute to society. That’s what our new campus is all about. 9
