HISTORY OF NIMON TRANSPORT// By Katie Nimon Started in 1905 by Jack Nimon (John Giles Nimon) after having worked as a stable hand for William Beecroft. Jack spend a lot of time travelling to Waimarama, and had much to do with local horse folk, and is said to have spoken Te Reo. Registered years later, with many family members, including Edith, who was considered the Nimon of Nimon and Sons after Jack passed away. John Joseph Nimon (Joe) later ran the business alongside many family members, causing John Nimon to start Roadair in the meantime, is he felt the business couldn’t support him as well. February 2021
Joe was the first mayor of Havelock North. John went to England to join the Air Force, worked for the Morris company, returning to New Zealand for medical reasons, bringing back his Morris Minor (still with the family) and then met his wife Diana Geddis (Daily Telegraph Geddis Family). The bus company has seen many evolutions under the different generational leadership: John was a philanthropist, which saw the business become more integrated with the community. Bill is an innovator, which has seen the business set a benchmark for quality nationwide. After 100 years of service to the region, Nimon lost the urban service contract in 2008. Katie has been involved in the business since her teenage years, and returned to the business full time in 2015, becoming the General Manager in 2018. She is the 5th generation to run the business. The fleet has grown from two carriages (Advance and Relief, along with Horses: Ivanhoe and Major) to a fleet of 130 included large coaches and VIP cars From Lucknow Lodge in Havelock North, Nimon now operates in a purpose built facility in Whakatu, with satellite depots in Onekawa and Taupo.
